Josh Beckett Extravaganza

I’m having withdrawal pangs. This is the first time Josh Beckett has pitched since the beginning of August that I haven’t been there to see him in person (although, it’s not like he’s done particularly well during that time period- so maybe I’m bad luck). What am I going to do with myself?

I know- I’m going to have a Josh Beckett extravaganza!

OK, I may have done this before- but that was almost 2 months ago. That’s entirely too long.

So allow me to quote what I wrote before:

En route to the American League’s 10th straight victory over the NL in last night’s the 2007 All-Star Game, Red Sox ace pitcher — and smokin’ hottie– Josh Beckett picked up the win. If you like the quiet, humble, shy, retiring types, who relax by reading poetry and watching Masterpiece Theatre and drinking a nice merlot, Josh Beckett is not for you. On the other hand, if you (like me) like your men tall (6′5″) and strong and brash and fiery, with a heap of cockiness and a whole hell of a lot of redneck, then Texas boy Josh is a man you’ll love.

This is the part where I tell you that Josh grew up the next neighborhood over from me in the far northwest reaches of Houston, Texas. In the boonies of hick country, y’all- I can vouch for that. And that he idolized Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens. And that he wears wranglers and boots on occasion. And has a lovely Texas drawl. And owns his own deer hunting ranch (he once won the award for the largest deer shot during the TX hunting season, a 14-point, 245-pound buck). And always has a dip can in his back pocket. And that he’s known to be rowdy with guys from opposing teams. And that he won the MVP of the World Series in 2003, and owns one of them shiny World Series Champ-eens rings from his days as a Marlin. And that he is leading MLB with 12 16 17 wins this year. Oh, yeah- and that he is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD LOOKING.

Yee-haw, baby. Because when Todd Helton, the self-described redneck of the Rockies, says Josh is a bigger redneck than he is, that’s a mighty big neck o’ red.

And now I think I’ll post some of my favorite Josh pictures after the jump…

for some reason, i like the two where it’s raining on him the best. go fig.

In the first one, he looks like a little kid. And the second is kind of an unexpected candid moment- which I love.

Also, in the second one, I notice he has a white MacBook, too. And I ilke that shirt he’s wearing.

Come on over so I can give you a hug and help you through your Josh withdrawl.

Just got back from seeing the game in person – so, in essence, I was taking up your spot TG. Electric at Fenway. And I took photos, which I’ll post soon – I was standing at field level pre-game when Josh was warming up in right field, so I got some pretty decent ones. Plus, he was like 3 ft from me. Hot, Hot, Hot!

Jai…I was going to say the same thing. I was there in person “pitch hitting” for you. It was great. I got some while he was warming up.

I like all the pictures, of course, but I’ve never seen the 3rd from the bottom. YIKES!! If I wasn’t already in lust, I am now. HAHA Thanks hon, you made my night…as usual. ;)

Impressive collection, Texas Gal. Thanks for sharing! I’ve seen quite a few of these scattered around the internet (and on my harddrive *cough*), but some of them are new to me. That first picture with the rain is so “artsy.” I love it.

The photo of him in the suit makes me laugh, though. There’s such a visual disconnect with him in a suit with that spikey hair and goatee of his. It’s unintentionally hilarious.

Well color me jealous, Huck and Jai- you got to see Josh AND Jonathan AND Jacoby tear it up out there.

I’m serious- it was weird to watch him on TV tonight. Which sounds stupid, but it’s true. But I actually get to concentrate on the game a little more when it’s on TV- in person, I’m juggling the camera and the scorekeeping and the beer and talking to my friends and people around me. Small consolation- watching Josh’s pitches unfold in person beats the pants off of a satellite feed.

Huck – had I known you were going to be at the game, I would have waved at you!

I’m getting the best of both worlds, as I got to see the game live AND I have it on my DVR to savor. There are pros and cons to seeing the game live – the cons being you sometimes have to sit next to annoying people and from the corner I was sitting, I couldn’t see everything. BUT I still wouldn’t change a thing of being there live. Seeing the three J-boys kick ass? I couldn’t *heart* any of then anymore than I did last night. I especially have a new fondness for Jacoby (who, BTW, needs an awesome nickname) – seeing him motor around the bases for that triple gave me goosebumps.

My only complaint about last night is that I rarely get a chance to go to Fenway, let alone see Beckett pitch live, so would have liked a longer game. I felt a little cheated by the shortness of it (under three hours???!!!)

The best part of being a Red Sox fan at Fenway: the crowd. Huck can back me up on this, as I don’t think it translated to TV, but during the 8th inning break while the crowd was singing Sweet Caroline, they cut the tune off as Droodles came up to bat. I guess the crowd felt cheated, because they cranked up the volume and sang the remainder of the song. And they timed the end of the song, its final swooning note with Droodles being thrown out at first. Completely awesome!

Thanks for the photos TG! I’ll be copying mouse up there and saving a few of these for my computer.

Nobody cuts of the Fenway Faithful while we are singing Sweet Caroline! I don’ t know what they were thinking letting Nancy…I mean JD get up to bat. LOL It was awesome though. I love going to Fenway….but I agree about the annoying people. Talking work at a ball game should at least put you in front of a firing squad of Beckett, Timlin and Wakefield. LOL Throw in Paps too, although he has yet to kill anything.

We were lucky enough to get these tickets and we had to have them since Josh was pitching. It was a great game. I was sick when Stairs homered…but all was well in Joshland after that. He was damn good after that. 8 innings, to save a depleted bullpen, was HUGE. Could I love this man anymore??

I love, love, love the one of him hugging the pitching coach. That is totally adorable.
