start it up, the smirk, cussing, facial hair choices, dipcan, hemp necklace, deer hunting, WS hardware,
baseline jumping, emphaticully, rabble-rouser, Texas redneck, 18 W, throws fucking strikes

vs.

finish it off, the stare, slutter, mohawk, cribbage, moose hunting, fist pump, class clown,
bullpen cop fistbump, scrabble-rouser, Mississippi (Louisiana) redneck, 35 S, let the bodies hit the floor

Will there be shirts? Allegiance is always stronger when one can display it proudly on their person.

    Team Pap all the way.

To pinch from Surviving Grady, I’m voting for “Commander Kick Ass of the F@#k Yeah Brigade”. I think it’s the cussing and rabble-rousing that does it for me.

Oh, and total props fo you Texas-Gal for doing this little contest. Nothing like a little internal competition to get the blood boiling for the MFYs coming to town.

  4. 2007 September 13 at 4:20 pm

We could totally do shirts. “Team X” on the front, name & number on the back.

And Jai I agree- thought it would be a fun distraction on an off day.

  5. 2007 September 13 at 4:21 pm

    You forgot:

Beckett’s liberal use of the c-word and that Papelbon enters to Wild Thing(or at least he used to).

Edge goes to Beckett despite Paps SEC connection. He’s an idiot off the mound while Beckett is dman entertaining.

    also left off: huntin’

I’ve said it before…I’ll say it again. I love Cinco Ocho, he’s funny, crazy, and just plain wacky. BUT….I’m all team Beckett here. Love everything about this guy. His whole F^@& you attitude. I adore it!! LOL

I want a TEAM BECKETT shirt.

FEMTG…they both hunt so you’d have to add their prey of choice. Beckett’s bagged deer, Paps has yet to get his moose. Score Beckett…AGAIN! LOL

    Cinco Ocho all the way

I’ll break your tie–Cinco Ocho, baby. And I pray daily for the return of the mohawk, yes I do.
Plus, I vote for yes for shirts.

Cinco Ocho all the way! I love wee Papyboo. Beckett’s attitude, although alluringly sassy, sometimes makes me think, “What a jackass”. He sure can pitch though…

And SHIRTS! That’d be awesome. I want one…

  10. 2007 September 13 at 10:25 pm

Can we do write-ins? Lol, just kidding. I’m going to have to go for………..Cinco Ocho.

It was a hard decision, but I just love all the fist pumping, the Stare, his Slutter, and…him.

  11. 2007 September 13 at 10:42 pm

Papelbon coming on strong- making a surge!

    Papelbon: 5
    Beckett: 4

  12. 2007 September 13 at 10:53 pm

    Team Papyboo!

  13. 2007 September 14 at 1:07 am

dudette. you totally helped me ace a job interview yesterday, because one of the women i interviewed with is from boston. i did 15 minutes on papyboo vs. beckett. she was astounded. i knew more than she did.

i remain neutral in this debate, however. think of me as switzerland.l

  14. 2007 September 14 at 1:23 am

That is easily the most awesome thing I’ve heard this week. Papyboo & Beckett would be happy to know they served you well- and I am proud to know that my indoctrination of you into the Papyboo-Beckett fold has reaped some positive rewards.

But you do know that in your heart of hearts, you have a favorite. Everyone does… even Mets fans.

This is cruel; it’s almost akin to asking me which tooth I’d rather have drilled.

If I must pick, I guess I’d go with Beckett, because I find I enjoy watching him pitch a bit more. He doesn’t have the inherent drama of the ninth inning to draw off of, yet he somehow makes every pitch feel just as critical, and just as interesting. I think his curveball may have some kind of hypnotic power of its own too, and it doesn’t even have a nickname.

Personality-wise, however, I abstain. They both amuse me to no end, though each for entirely different reasons.

  16. 2007 September 14 at 12:34 pm

One of t-shirts must have one team on the front and one team on the back for those who can’t decide.

That a tough one, cause both amuse me to no end. BUT since at the end of the day I am a Florida girl, Beckett wins this round if only because of the game six in 03.

  18. 2007 September 14 at 1:34 pm

I’m coming in a little late on this (buying a house and trying to move in will do that to you). But obviously, you know where I stand. Beckett all the way.

I do find Papelbon entertaining, but he’s just not as sexy, no matter how many people he gets to call Josh ugly on Friendly’s Scoop.

  19. 2007 September 14 at 1:39 pm

PS: Texas Gal, I will be at the game on Saturday by a very happy coincidence. I think I’m going to try my hand at some Beckett bullpen stalking!

  20. 2007 September 14 at 3:03 pm

In a reversal of fortunes, Beckett pulls ahead for the first time!

    Beckett: 7
    Papelbon: 6

  21. 2007 September 14 at 3:06 pm

Kristin- You know I am jealous. I have missed exactly ONE Beckett start since the beginning of August, and it nearly killed me. I am hoping that since I was not good luck for him against the Yanks in NYC, perhaps you will be good luck for him in Boston.

Hey, Kristin, could you snap a few of Ellsbury? Forget Pap and Beckett, he’s GORGEOUS! Thanks lots :)

  23. 2007 September 14 at 10:26 pm

fine then. another vote for papyboo.

i walked in the house just now and grumbling, turned on the tv.
“are the red sox still on?”
    “yes”
    *turns on tv*
“oh, good, i get to watch papelbon”
    boyfriend: “what the FUCK?”
    “huh?”
“you are now following the CLOSERS for AL teams?”
    “um… yeah.”

    GO SOX

  24. 2007 September 16 at 4:12 pm

You don’t want to be on the side of a Texas redneck do you. Cinco Ocho is where it’s at.

  25. 2007 September 16 at 6:49 pm

if you’re talking about which player do we like better, i couldn’t pick. in terms of t-shirt design and / or merch, i’m with team beckett. jonathan gets a lot of fan stuff, t-shirts, etc., hardly anyone wears anything for josh.

I have a Papelbon T-shirt. Love the stare and look over the shoulder before a pitch.

His number is the year I was born. Boy am I old.

  27. 2007 September 17 at 10:44 pm

Cinco-Ocho all the way. Always loved him…the manic stare before he throws always makes me smirk smugly – “Yeah, that’s right people…we’ve got Pap. You don’t.” Win.

  28. 2007 September 24 at 1:48 am

So we’re up to a healthy lead by Papelbon…

    Papelbon: 10
    Beckett: 8

I’m going to have to say Papelbon. Before I saw the video where he talked about the Sports Illustrated cover, I loved both equally. But he’s just hilarious. Perhaps “tan lines” should be added up there after “let the bodies hit the floor”
