Warning: I’m Getting Sappy

I’m about to wax poetic for a teensy bit, so please avert your eyes if you are allergic to sappy emotion.

This 2007 Red Sox team is magic.

I know the 2004 team is the benchmark by which everyone measures this year’s group, and all other groups that will likely come after, but I’m telling you… this team is magic.

It’s no coincidence that we’ve witnessed so much special awesomeness surrounding the club all year: the Dice-K hoopla, the Mother’s Day Miracle, the Lester comeback, Beckett establishing himself as the #1 ace, the Coco outfield gymnastics, the rookie surge from Pedroia and Ellsbury, the Papelbon mastery, the out-of-nowhere Okey, the Papi clutchness in spite of injuries, the Lowell slugging, the Youk defense, the Clay no-hitter, and now these back-to-back from-behind victories. These things are not just happening all at the same time, in the same season, to the same team at random.

I’m telling you- this is BIG STUFF. 40 years later… maybe it’s the scales righting themselves.

I’ll say it again: this 2007 Red Sox team is magic.

We were there tonight, and after the game I turned to Jennifer and said, “This game makes me want to have children, so that I can raise them as Red Sox fans and tell them I saw this.”

I’m going to sleep now, wrapped in the love of my Papi. ;)

All season we’ve been saying that Papi isn’t “clutch” like he used to be. What happened to Papi? Well it was weird…last night I felt it. It was like I knew he was going to walk off w/ this win. I just had it in my head that there was no way he wouldn’t. And he did. It was a different feeling from the rest of the season. Papi’s back baby. And I agree..this team is great. Love every crazy second of them. LOL

Caroline- that’s a beautiful thought. And you seriously might have changed my mind on having kids for precisely the same reason. And of course I’m happy to be added- Respect The Tek is one of my favorite blogs.

FEMTG- I did not predict any particular result, I did not make any guarantees, I did not dismiss any other team. All’s I’m saying is… this team is special. Like, maybe the kind of team that can come out from underneath the shadow cast by 2004.

Huck- I think Papi has REALLY been hurting, battling injuries all season that even he refuses to acknowledge. I don’t think we’ll ever know the extent to which he’s been playing in pain this year.

Oh, the team at the beginning of the year was great, maybe even with an inkling of magic, but the amazing rookies really provided the spark to ignite this team. I’m not just being biased toward Ellsbury (8D), but Buchholz’s no-hitter, all these random players who are just amazing–Moss, Kielty, and Cash, as the backups to the shining Ellsbury, Buchholz, and Pedroia, who’s absolutely got that RotY award clinched already, in my opinion.

    Great, though, for sappy!
