But in my opinion, it's worth it- Salty can play 1B and C, and has all the earmarks of being able to develop into a solid bat and great defensive guy. Laird I'm not as thrilled about, but would be happy to have him as a #2. Basically, if they're looking for a #2 that could learn from Tek and take over the reins when he leaves... Salty is that guy. Laird is, in my eyes, just a #2. And I agree on Johan- we've got more than enough starting pitching this year- it's next year, when Wake and Schill are gone, that's the problem. Not that I wouldn't take Santana now and get his Ws in '08-- but it probably makes more sense to wait and snag him out of free agency.
