Oh, we'll be having to deal with Boras a lot sooner than six years, sad to say. Jacoby will be eligible for arbitration in 2.1 years- which is 2009, and just around the corner.

And the hit Boras took on A-Rod had nothing to do with money, it had to do with him getting essentially locked out of negotiations. Same with Kenny Rogers. If you're an agent, your primary function is to negotiate- and if you're actually PREVENTED from negotiating by your own client? That is bad.

The fact that the Yankees caved (as always) and paid A-Rod more money than God (although WAY less than Boras shopped him for) to me is more indicative of the Yanks' uncanny ability to pony up money-- and not of Boras's skills.

I will give Boras this: outside of him shitting the bed recently in the perception stakes, he and his firm provide superior client-handling. They take care of their own from the ground up: training, exercise, nutrition, lifestyle, everything.

He's still a fucktard, though.

i hate to say but actually its a good thing because the twins backed off a bit on jacoby because he hired boras. i don't like him either but it depends on the client as to how boras acts.thats what i have seen .. i wish boras would go torment the nba or the nfl for a while but it seems were stuck w/him.

Boras is also Jason Varitek and Daisuke Matsuzaka's agent among many, many others.

I think he's a vampire too and I groan whenever his name comes up, but if you're a player that is exactly the kind of person you want to be your agent. Even with the pervading theory that he "took a hit" with the A-Rod fiasco, A-Rod's still set to make the most money ever by a major league player. Some hit!

It's kind of annoying that Ellsbury has signed on with him, but it's not our problem--it's Theo's (or possibly Bill Smith's). And seeing as Jacoby is team controlled for the next six years, not really a big deal right now.

I thought Jacoby was better than that. Boras is the guy behind Gagne coming, Damon leaving, and A-Rod. That is, in itself, reason enough not to be a client of his.

You and me both. I am seriously dismayed that Ellsbury would take on Boras- I think that is a stupid, stupid decision.

The pot just got sweeter...

According to Buster Olney, the Sox added in a FIFTH guy to the deal- Ryan Kalish.

Now I'm curious: is that 5-for-1... or could it possibly be 5-for-2?

NOOO. I know Santana's the best pitcher in the baseball but I love Masterson and don't want him to be traded! This team needs more eye candy

Latest report from the Globe isn't so rosy...

Johan Santana's agent, Peter Greenberg indicated moments ago that he has not begun contract negotiations with any team at this stage, an indication a deal between Boston and the Twins might still have a ways to go.
and
Major League sources have also indicated there have been no discussions between the Twins and Red Sox yet today, though talks are planned later in the day. The medical information the Twins sought on Jon Lester was simply "due diligence" according to one official, and that nothing was imminent with the Twins-Red Sox, though that could change rapidly after their meeting later today.

From ESPN this morning: "If the Red Sox get Santana," said an executive of one NL team that's grateful to be in the other league, "they might be the best team in the history of the frigging universe." Nice.
