Could Red Sox Be Hot To Trot (again)?
In a short and sweet Q&A with the Globe’s Nick Cafardo, Trot Nixon revealed that he’s had his agents contact the Red Sox about coming back to the Fens again.
Q: Did you ever think about trying to get back to the Red Sox?TN: Sure. I saw recently where they needed a lefthanded bat. Someone who can play first and maybe the outfield. That fits for me. I know my representative has contacted them, but I have no idea what their plans are and who they’re considering. I would always love to come back and play in Boston. I still have so many friends there. But the important thing now is to play again, no matter where it is.

I suppose that if the Brad Wilkerson interest doesn’t pan out, the Red Sox might consider reciprocating Trot’s interest… at the right price.

I wouldn’t mind this…but I really don’t think Theo will look Trot’s way. Plus, J.D. isn’t likely to give back Trot’s #7.
I mean, the ones on the 04 team that didnt go to the pinstripes will always have a special place in my heart (Even if they are the reason we lost game 2 of the alcs). I wouldnt mind a Trot return. It means I could wear my old Nixon t-shirt and it’d be current.
I definitely would like to have The Trotman back, but I’m not sure how much he would really like his new role…
If anyone could handle this role, Trot is the man. If he ends up back on Yawkey Way, he could only make things better.

I’m inclined to agree, Tim – on both points. I wouldn’t mind having him back- he’s way way way past his prime, but I’m a sucker for sentiment. However, Theo is NOT a sucker for sentiment, so I don’t think it will materialize.
There needs to be a Mascot bench position, to be filled by a player that’s purely there for clubhouse morale purposes. Although, that might cause more problems, and lead to a bloody battle between Trot, Kevin Millar and Bronson Arroyo.
This would be perfect, although, I would have to move back to Boston from Cleveland. Boston needs their DirtDog back.
