I don’t think that would be a bad idea, but I wonder how Jacoby would feel about that…. The short term solution is just to have both on the roster with Kielty in AAA until Drew inevitably injures something (despite all his bowling).

I’ve always wondered whether Jacoby could ultimately take over for Manny, but that’s very, very premature. If Manny were to leave the Sox for whatever reason, they would miss his power in the lineup. Not that Jacoby can’t hit a home run every now and then, but he’ll probably never come close to Manny’s home run total.

Ah, so nice to know I’m not alone! Thanks for that.

I can’t ask this of irrational Ellsbury fans, but I wonder…would it be so bad to have Coco stay in CF and stash Ellsbury in Pawtucket? Manny and Drew are hardly paragons of durability, and Jacoby proved to be very valuable as an injury replacement last year. It’s just an idea, though I doubt it would have any legs.

You’re not the last fan Mouse. I’m torn. I love Coco but I love Jacoby too. ST will be interesting to watch these 2 battle it out.

You’re not the last Coco Crisp fan on earth! My daughter (9) is a huge Coco Crisp fan and tries to imitate him when she catches fly balls in the back yard. (She calls her dramatic catches “Cocos.”) I hope something good happens for him, no matter what. Who knows? Maybe he will shine in ST.

I often feel like I’m the last Coco Crisp fan on earth. People have been so quick to forget how much he contributed in 2007; not just the “OMG HE CAUGHT IT!!” highlight reel he had with the glove, but he swung a very hot stick in June and July when the team was swooning. If he hadn’t hit then, things could’ve been much rougher over that period.

I love his athleticism, his goofy grin and his afro (or cornrows). And he deserves to play everyday somewhere, even if that somewhere isn’t Boston. It doesn’t make him a malcontent to say that truth. It’s when players say they don’t care about playing that we should worry.

See, this is why I haven’t fully embraced Ellsbury; I have too much Coco love. He deserves better than having to fight for a job.

OY Coco. I really really want something to work out for this guy because he deserves it!Unfortunately, the Sox were mired in that Santana manure for so long that there aren’t that many great Coco trade options out there. If Jacoby wins the job, Coco might have to wait a bit for a starting gig to open up elsewhere. I just hope he doesn’t become bitter or a become a Debbie Downer if he has to be the fourth outfielder for awhile.
