Libby: It’s not necessaryily wrong, but it’s just a little weird. It’s kind of like saying “Hi my name is …” rather than “Hi I’m ….” The latter is more common but saying what he said isn’t wrong. But most Spanish speakers say “me llamo” yeah.

I’m a day late here, but I must say, even though he completely butchered the Spanish language, I’m glad he tried.

How many players who can’t speak Spanish would even try, let alone seem to be having fun with it? Gotta love Papelbon.

how much would you be willing to bet that Beckett and Varitek paid Oki and Dice-Man to teach Papelbon to say bad things in Japanese during spring training for the Tokyo game? so he thinks he’s saying “its great to be here” to the Japanese media when he’s actually saying “I make poop in my pants” and “Mommy says I am a very pretty girl”.

Margaret, I once stumbled upon Paps recording a Friendly’s Scoop during BP, and he couldn’t even get his own name out of his mouth without stumbling, so I’m pretty sure he comes by his uniquel form of articulation naturally.

I saw a picture of Paps holding up the spanish script earlier today, and thought “I really wish they had video.” So this made me very happy:-D

He does attempt to speak the spanish parts with a spanish accent…so he’s got that going for him I guess.

That was even worse than I thought it’d be when I saw this entry’s heading. Though it’s not surprising seeing as Mr. Papelbon’s grasp of English is often tenuous at best.

That’s hysterical! I can’t claim to do any better since I’ve never taken Spanish (took German instead since my family came from Germany).

Liza, it does look like Paps is wearing red sox and sandals–scary. But that’s the Papelbot.

I have to say that it’s great to come home after a wicked busy day to see the Sox spring training on high def.

OMG! Tek is sizing his toe for a WS ring! That’s just wrong.

Funny–I had to write cinco frases en el imperfecto progresivo about a picture I brought in for my Spanish class today…

Johan Santana estaba mirando al equipo.
Pedro Martinez estaba de pie con Johan.
Yo estaba sacando el foto.

Etc.

Also, is he wearing flip-flops and red socks?
