Stickbug Sits and Speaks

Yesterday evening, Clay Buchholz kicked off the week of live Sports Tonight: Spring Training Edition shows on Comcast. About twice a day, Monday to Friday of this week, the Sports Tonight crew will host different Sox players live on-set down in Fort Myers — and Clay was the first victim.

They covered all the ground you’d expect: competing for the starting spot, the Sox expectations for him, limited innings, the no-hitter, his friendship with Joba Chamberlain (who showed up at spring training with both nipples pierced- NICE), Santana trade rumors, what he can learn from Jon Lester and Josh Beckett, working with Jason Varitek, and his expectations and goals for 2008.

Here’s complete video of Clay’s interview:

Haha I love the story about trying to shake off Tek in his first start, a mound mic would have been interesting then.

And in light of the “news” about Joba, I guess the multiple necklaces a lot of the Sox wear really aren’t that bad:-P

Thanks for posting this, I had completely missed it.

Timlin and Wakey were on last night, too. (Now them I’ll do backflips over.) The discussion was predicatable: Wake sitting out the series, How’s he feeling now?, What about Curt?, What about Roger & Andy? – but it was great to see them. There’s something I love about seeing Sox boys together.

I missed this last night as well so thanks for posting it.

Please tell me that I’m not alone in thinking that Clay is the most adorable member of the Red Sox.

It should be interesting to see if he is going to be in the starting rotation in April or not.

That’s a great interview–thank you for posting it!

For all the talk of his “bulking up,” Clay still looks more like a middle school kid than a 20-something pitcher to me. :) Stickbug indeed! I love his whole attitude. I’m excited we’ll get to see more of him this year.

Thanks for posting this Texy. Unfortunately where I live in CT i don’t get Comcast Sports New England since where I am is part of the New York market.

Erin, you are most certainly NOT the only one who thinks he’s the most adorable guy on the team. I’m practically in love with him. =P

I think he’s easily one of the most adorable. You have to add in some of the others (MDC, in particular–I have a soft spot for the guy) to that list, but he’s just so sweet and earnest and silly that it’s impossible not to love him.

Joba seems pretty sweet and silly too… with an emphasis on the silly (edging towards weird) in terms of piercings.
