Manny + Scott Boras = FUN!

We really should have expected this. I mean, it was only a matter of time, right?

Manny Ramirez hires Scott Boras as his agent. First we lost Jacoby to the dark side over the offseason, now this. Sigh. Add him to the Sox roster of Boras clients, I suppose – Jason Varitek, Daisuke Matsuzaka, J.D. Drew, Julian Tavarez, Alex Cora, Jacoby Ellsbury… and now Manny Ramirez.

This year’s impending contract negotiations with Manny just got a whole lot more interesting…

Not that the source is terribly reliable but Gary Sheffield says Boras is a bad man. I think Sheffield may know a thing or two about bad men.

Gary Sheffield is as crazypants as they come — but it doesn’t mean he’s wrong. I figure if SHEFFIELD thinks you’re bad, you’ve got to be pretty damned bad.

I agree that Sheffield is a loon, but he is a pretty pissed off loon. Whatever Boras did to him is not just going to go away. Sheffield is one man I would NOT want angry with me. But, Boras must be doing something right if he has these well-respected players as clients. No?

We all know what we’ve heard about Boras and I have no particular inclination to defend him, but can anyone who represents Tek and who has a good working relationship with Theo really be evil incarnate?

Are you telling me I have to be LOGICAL and RATIONAL? Dang.

I have such a hard time getting anywhere close to that when someone connected with A-Rod is involved.

Another one bites the dust :\ There is no way we’ll see Manny back with the Sox in ‘11.

Well, that I get. A-Rod is evil incarnate – but Tek is the living embodiment of All That Is Good. And the guy is associated with both. I guess that makes him a pure mercenary. OK, you win.

I love it when I win!

I figure Varitek handles Boras like you’d handle a rabid dog – keep him chained up in a basement far, far away – and only unleash him when it’s absolutely necessary.

At least the Sox have the options for 2009-2011 which means they can pick up M anny with no new negotiations for a while. This kinda makes Manny seem like he doesn’t think Theo is going to pick up his option next year.
    Keep up the great writing…..

My reaction when I heard was quite… well, Joshie-press-conference-y. Boras is the only person in baseball I hate more than A-Rod, and that’s saying something. Add in the fact that the contract’s up this fall and you might as well run around in circles screaming that the sky’s falling, a la Chicken Little.

The contract isn’t up at the end of the fall, though – the club holds two options. So if the Sox want to exercise them, he’ll have to stay… whether Boras likes it or not. I just don’t know if the Sox will choose to exercise them.
