It Feels Like Christmas Eve

In less than 10 hours, baseball will begin.

Real, live, actual, honest-to-god baseball. Baseball that matters, that means something. Baseball that affects stats, baseball that affects records. Baseball that will help determine the 2008 world champion. I love spring training, I love the workouts, I love the Japan exhibition games… but nothing compares to REAL baseball.

It’s like Christmas Eve. Actually, it’s better than Christmas Eve.

So, since it’s Christmas in March, let me be Santa – and here’s a gift for all of y’all. If watching this video doesn’t get you psyched up for Red Sox baseball… you need to check your pulse.

For everyone out there who’s getting up early to watch, there will be an open gameday thread. I think that thread should be EPIC. Or, at the very least, giddy. Stop by and join us – I’m hosting an opening day party here at my house, and so I expect to be posting while drinking several bloody marys.

Love the video. I am taping the game. I just can’t get up that early. Maybe normally, but I’m recovering from surgery so I am too tired for that. I just won’t look online before I watch the video.

What song is playing in the background?

    “Ladies and Gentlemen” by Saliva.

Fucking holy, sweet, baseball gods, I love the Red Sox.

That is pretty much the only comprehensible thought going through my mind after that video. Come to think of it, I love NESN, and I love you too Texy, for posting this.

    WOOT.

And I am SO waking up early. I have my alarm set for 5:55 AM. All my friends think I’m out of my mind. I am not a morning person, so it’s unusual for me to be voluntarily waking up before about 10. But I am so psyched.

    Aw, feel better, Karen!

(Jeez, this is a long comment.)

(And yes, this thread will be EPIC to the extreme.)

Whoa, excuse me–4:55. I am watching the NESN pre-game, no doubt about it.

Red Sox baseball AND bloody mary’s at 6 am? Now THAT’S a party! I’ll probably catch some of the early morning game, but then have to drop my father-in-law off at the airport – some things are worth the sacrifice of having to stop watching baseball. Party on Texy!

TRY AND STOP ME FROM GETTING UP TO WATCH THE GAME.
No, really, try – after that video I WANT TO HURT SOMETHING. In a good way.

  9. 2008 March 24 at 9:42 pm

Like, in a “Papelbon staring down from the mound like the batter is about to get killed” way?

  10. 2008 March 24 at 9:44 pm

Yay, a game thread I won’t be in class for! So there.

I might not post incredibly often because I’ll be trying to live-blog with radio for the first time (in the past I usually resorted to Gameday because most of my live-blogging was for Arizona Fall League games), but I’ll try to keep up as well as I can. Can’t wait for tomorrow morning…!

    Wow. Awesome video.

TG – no, that video (and a little thing called OPENING DAY) has me too fired up for that kind of control. How about in a ball-crushing game-winning OUT OF THE PARK ROCKET.

BTW I now have Saliva in my soundtrack. Is there a cleaning product for that?

  13. 2008 March 24 at 10:12 pm

Ooh, that reminds me: Soundtrack To the Sox. If anyone needs music to get hyped and awake tomorrow morning, that should do you good. Just crank the volume up, hit play, and you’re rockin’.

Ooh, good idea–I actually went and listened to Stronger about 10 times after that video, it had me so pumped. I always listen to that song when I’m in a good mood now ’cause it’s what I listened to on constant repeat throughout all last September.

    It’s 11:33 EST. 5 1/2 hours until the pre-game… I should probably get to sleep…

I am so glad you posted this, because I love when NESN puts these together and this is an excellent one.

That said, no amount of motivation can make me get up before 7:45, short of Sean Casey making it a personal act of kindness to stop by and wake me with a latte and a hug.

So I expect I’ll sleep in and join y’all after the dust has settled, but I’m no less pumped for all that!

TG! Please tell me you have video of that newspaper Gordon Edes showed!

    For those who missed it–

One of the local (Tokyo) newspapers got Daisuke to write “World Series Repeat–Cy Young Award–#18 Daisuke Matsuzaka” on a piece of paper and printed a copy of it (written in English!) on every paper. It’s absolutely amazing. I WANT ONE.

That video was pretty bad I thought. The other videos they play at the ballpark between innings are much better. I especially like 7 Nation Army and Perfect Situation. Not to mention GYROBALL!!!
