vs. New York Yankees
7:05 pm
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
SP: Clay Buchholz vs. Chien-Ming Wang
tv/radio: NESN – MLB.TV – WRKO

This is your only chance to watch the Sox take on the Yanks this weekend without having to endure Tim McCarver or Joe Morgan. Enjoy it while it lasts. Anyone else hoping for a repeat appearance from the hawk?

Use the comments to this entry as your own personal Gameday open thread. These open threads have been fun so far – so I’ll keep ‘em up as long as y’all are interested in having them.

Fun fact: say “Buchholz” and read “Wang”. Then try getting your mind out of the gutter. ;)

    (Kudos to Pam/Blinding-Voip, haha)

I want it known that I am a forgiving person: Buchholz loved the Yankees growing up (barf) and Jeter was one of his favorite players (retch). And yet I still love that Stickbug.

I feel bad for Bryan Corey, but I’m just happy we’ve got our Admiral Timlin back.

    Bye-bye tarp!

I’m going to run and grab something to eat – because I am going to attempt to score the game tonight, so I need my hands free. I’ll be back in a few!

  5. 2008 April 11 at 6:27 pm

    Two good things:

    Lineups are out.

    Alex Cora’s arm is okay!

(And a third note – if this weather keeps up, keep in mind that Jed is from Oregon and can play in the rain. Okay, I’m totally trying too hard.)

You gotta love the symmetry with Buchholz and Hughes. Buchholz is on the Red Sox and grew up a Yankee fan meanwhile Hughes is on the Yankees and grew up a Red Sox fan. Symmetry FTW!

    Hi all,
To follow up on our groundskeeping conversation from the other night, an article on Chi Wht Sox field master, Roger Bossard

WOW. Huge thunderstorm coming in out in PA.

    …Eh, it’ll pass quickly. But it’s looking pretty severe…

Piney – One of the reasons I kinda love Hughes… he was a Sox fan. It’s not his fault the Yankees drafted him…

I just need to share the awesomeness of Homer Bailey with everyone here. Here he is on his name (note: he’s a pitcher): “Everyone tries to make a story about it and, you know, after about the 20th time, you’re like, ‘Find something else!’” Bailey laughed. “A fan cannot say anything I haven’t heard before about my name being Homer. Think of something new! I want to see some creativity!”

1863, the line of weather “stuff” stretches all the way from New England to the Gulf. Here in the NC mountains we’re due within the next couple of hours, as the storms just crossed the state line from Tennessee.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather up North doesn’t wreak havoc with tonight’s game! I’ll be heading home from work in about 45 minutes and am really looking forward to repeating last night’s R&R with the lot of you!

Go Sox! I hope Stickbug throws an excellent game. It’ll be fun to see Buchholz pitch to Jeter (if he plays). I’ve been in meetings too much today (and am STILL at work!), so haven’t been able to follow any news.

Gotta run. I can’t wait for the game.

  14. 2008 April 11 at 6:46 pm

Darn it, Iowa Cubs game postponed! No Henry Chadwick (Sam Fuld – long story) today!

(settles for Pawtucket’s first away game and Columbus and Charlotte as her Minor League games of the day) I don’t need to explain Pawtucket, but I’m following Charlotte because my obsession with Stanford knows no bounds. Donny Lucy is there.

Also, if anyone cares, Bowden is starting the Portland home opener tonight.

Woo, Bowden! I hope he has a good game. I’d love to see him get promoted to Pawtucket soon.

    And I’ve decided–I don’t want Amalie Benjamin’s job, I want Nick Cafardo’s.

  16. 2008 April 11 at 6:54 pm

You can keep up with Bowden here. Portland’s currently down 1-0. Bowden gave up a double and a single consecutively with two outs, but he struck out the batter after that to retire the side.

I’ve been at games like tonight before – where the rain is coming down steady, but not hard enough to stop play. Everyone’s soaked, but it’s kind of a happy soaked.

I’m stuck watching YES (Yankees Entertainment and Sports) Network… more like NO network.

At least it’s better than just listening to it, but I really think I’m going to have to mute it soon. The game hasn’t started yet and these guys are already annoying me. :p

  22. 2008 April 11 at 7:04 pm

野球 = literally means ‘field ball,’ but those are the characters for baseball. I’m so happy to be able to write it now!

It’s just drizzling here (noth of the city). It’s been cloudy and gross all day long, but only raining in the last couple hours or so.

    Let’s go BUCH!

  24. 2008 April 11 at 7:08 pm

I’m willing to bet that despite the pouring rain the boys from Oregon will be out leaning on the dugout rail. They’ve both probably played in worse weather…

It’s pouring here in PA. No reason to leave!

Devils – I’ve managed to STILL not be able to get my hands on a copy. Ugh. I wouldn’t be able to read it in Spanish, though. I don’t know that much.

  31. 2008 April 11 at 7:15 pm

Speaking of Mihashi Clay, there’s a cute interview with him from his Sea Dog days here. You’ve got to scroll down a bit, but it’s there.

Also, I just stumbled across this–notice who’s writing the foreward of Mike Lowell and Rob Bradford’s book. I SERIOUSLY need this book.

  34. 2008 April 11 at 7:17 pm

    Ugh. PawSox delayed.

At least I still get Charlotte (and Oregon State and Stanford at 8 – I’d pay to see Jed and Jacoby watching that one…).

Eeeep. I could be called out at any time – my friend’s car broke down. She called AAA, but I volunteered myself to drive just in case they need someone to pick them up…

If I randomly disappear, that’s why.
