Red Sox Blooper Reel

Cue the goofy circus music, it’s time for the first installment of Red Sox Blooper Reel…

Clip #1: The Casey Crawl

During the Sox-Yanks game on Wednesday, Chien Ming-Wang feints a pick-off throw towards Sean Casey at second. In his rush to get back to base, Casey stumbles, falls, and does a lumbering crawl back to second– with his helmet down covering his eyes. He then helpfully calls himself safe.

More bloopers after the jump…

Clip #2: A Hug From Manny

After jacking a homerun against Mike Mussina on Thursday, the camera catches Manny Ramirez sharing a tender moment with Dustin Pedroia in the dugout.

Clip #3: Beckett Faceplant

I can’t imagine Josh Beckett felt super cool after faceplanting in the turf while going after a ball hit during Thursday’s Sox-Yanks game. I also imagine he’d punch anyone who made fun of him for it.

My husband missed the Casey Crawl the other night- I am so thrilled that you posted this so that I can share the joy! Thanks!

    Thank you!!!!!!!!

You got the Youk dust-off, too. I really needed this today.

That shot of Casey calling himself safe with the helmet over his eyes makes me laugh every time. I need to find a higher-res copy to include in my Sox-shrine in my office.

I missed Beckett’s faceplant. ouch. I’m glad he didn’t hurt himself, but what an effort!

My husband just emailed me a Sox TV jingle from around 25 years ago:

“It’s time to relax and put your feet up
And meet up with the Boston Red Sox
Boston born and Boston bred Sox
    So relax, relax, relax
    And be a Sox watcher!”

    Too funny!

Sean Casey is quickly becoming my boyfriend. Him calling himself safe was classic! He’s a fantastic addition to the Sox.

I KNEW that you would the video of Sean Casey’s “Crab Crawl” back to second base. I figured if you didn’t post it within a day or two, I was going to have to email you and beg you to do it. My husband and I laughed so freaking hard that I almost started crying. At that point, I stopped caring about the rest of the game.

I saw the Beckett face-flop too, which cracked me up. Mostly because, as seen by your screen shot, none of his teammates even bothered to help him up as they were running back to the dugout. Either they didn’t care, or they were so afraid of Beckett’s reaction to helping him up, they just ignored him.

Oh man. You are awesome for reposting these. Any time I need a good laugh I’ll have to come back to this entry and rewatch all of these.

Casey’s crawl earns bonus points for the “safe” call he made. An ability to laugh at yourself helps save face in those kinds of moments; might explain why he’s so famous for being a great teammate.

I need a good photo of Josh’s faceplant to pin up by my desk. Then I’ll come up with some kind of hilarious caption to go with it. Suggestions?

mouse, how about something connected to breakdancing for Beckett’s faceplant? Like, here’s his first attempt at the worm. It didn’t go so well…

I’m not supposed to watch videos on the office server but couldn’t resist peeking at the Manny moments (half the video, anyway…had to check out the Dustin snuggle since I was sans TV for the Thursday game). Can’t wait to get home so I can watch all the rest of this. Thanks SO MUCH for posting all these goodies! Did I mention that this site is among my “Daily Essentials” bookmarks on my home computer? :-D

casey redeemed himself for tripping over his own feet by having a good sense of humor
he seems great, very quick, great shot of him holding his arms out safe with the helmet over his eyes!
good thing A-Rod was called out at first or Beckett would have looked not so cool-even though he was just doing his job- going for the ball. cares more about winning than looking good. i think that’s why he didn’t throw at a batter after manny got thrown at. yankee fans laughed real quick because it was the only chance all game that they got to smile

To Jules: That theme song was from WBZ-TV Boston. They broadcast the RS circa 1973ish. It was a cartoon with a pilgrim and a turkey.
