    Hi All!

    :: waves ::

    Rain delay.

It was a brutally long week, but it’s Friday and I’m sitting on my bum ready for the game.

They just showed the fan who dropped the ball he caught (on Patriot’s day, I think). First time I saw that–too funny.

  2. 2008 May 2 at 7:07 pm

Argh, I’ll be missing the game…I just finally finished my paper, and I have a lot of things to do tonight…I’ll miss everyone tonight!

Congrats on finishing your paper. That always feels great. I’m *loooong* out of school, but I feel the same way when I get a project done (some projects are so big, just a deliverable is reason to celebrate).

    damn rain delay =(

so how was the chat last night? i was at the game, it was fun0 i just wish we won =(

  5. 2008 May 2 at 7:16 pm

All of the Sox players looked so old in the 80’s. they all look like their unathletic 60 yr olds..lol

I missed the chat last night–spent five hours at my daughter’s track meet.

I am soooooooo ready for some baseball.

  7. 2008 May 2 at 7:17 pm

its also weird to imagine what Fenway will look like 20 yrs from now. I mean look at how different it looks now than it it did in the 80’s.

What will be weird in 20 years is seeing the guys we love coming back as the old veterans. Just imagine Wake and Tek throwing out the first pitch in 20 years. My husband was just saying that the other day. “Just imagine Papelbon in 20 years!”

Hi, long time reader, first time poster =P

The words “rain delay” always make me a little bit sad….

    Hi Mary!

    Welcome!

Hopefully the rain delay won’t take too long. It sounded like a lighter rain, but I haven’t checked a weather site for radar or anything.

Looks like another hour for the game. Too bad.

  13. 2008 May 2 at 7:31 pm

Is that official or an estimation?

  14. 2008 May 2 at 7:32 pm

    d.o. just said they’re hoping for 8:30 …

Don Orsillio just said they expect (hope?) to play at 8:30. NESN switched to tennis.

Yankees up 1-0 in the first.

  16. 2008 May 2 at 7:34 pm

Well, Sweet and Lowdown is on one of the movie channels….. looks like I’ll be watching that for a while… haha

    Hi all…

I didn’t do my rain delay homework before I left the office at 7:05 (!), but am glad to hear that “it looks kinda promising.” A “hoping for 8:30″ start will give me time to feel human again after a long week of juggling medical charts and demanding physicians.

Welcome Mary! And jules, I’m giggling at the thought of Manny, Papi, Lowell, etc. as 50-somethings. And the current crop of young’ns as 40-somethings. Not that they won’t all age well, mind you!

My husband grew up a Sox fan (I married into my obsession ;-) and remembers all the old players. He was saying that some day, we’ll see Wake and Schil come back like Buckner and Pesky do now and won’t we feel old!

  19. 2008 May 2 at 7:47 pm

I can only imagine what Beckett’s going to look like in 40 years… the epitome of a cranky old man

Mary, Beckett in 40 years is a scary thought!

Jules, I’ve recently been corresponding by one of my sorority sisters from college, who happens to be a Sox fan. We first met as freshmen way back in the fall of 1975. We were e-mailing back and forth, discussing some of the players, and when Papi and Lugo were mentioned, she said something to the effect of “I really feel OLD knowing that these two grown men were born during our first semester of college.” Yep. Exactly.

the latest reports at Fenway Park are that the game could start around 9 p.m

  24. 2008 May 2 at 8:22 pm

Yeah, they were saying 9 a while ago.

    Silly tennis :P

I just looked at the animated radar loop on Intellicast and it appears that the area of rain is “training” from NW to SE over the Boston area. Not sure how long it will take to clear out of there.

    From Extra Bases:

“The latest announcement in the press box at Fenway Park has the Red Sox-Rays game starting at approximately 9:30 p.m. Stay tuned.”

  31. 2008 May 2 at 8:31 pm

Ay yi yi…9:30? At least I don’t have to get up early tomorrow, and I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a night owl, but I’m so tired right now…don’t know if I can make it to the end of the game. :-(

I’ve got WRKO on Gameday Audio, and they just said that so far there’s no word on “when or if” the game will be played. =/

They did say that more info may be forthcoming in 10 to 15 minutes, when the rain is possibly expected to let up.

  36. 2008 May 2 at 8:53 pm

Per WRKO, the grounds crew is out, beginning to lift the tarp, and the estimate is still for a 9:30-ish start.

they should just bang this game and play it later in the season

  39. 2008 May 2 at 8:59 pm

This was just announced: Barring anymore rain, the Sox and Rays will attempt to begin tonight

  40. 2008 May 2 at 9:07 pm

The rain’s stopped and the tarp’s off the field.

LOL, you should hear the caller on WRKO right now. He’s ranting about the game delay and the children who will have to stay up late as a result and the people who will be drinking in the stands until too late in the evening blah blah blah woof woof woof…

Why is drinking in the stands until late in the evening a bad thing, Mr. radio announcer guy?

It wasn’t the announcer, it was the caller. The announcer was trying to defend it all against the ranting caller.

And the next caller was a woman who basically called the Sox a bunch of wimps because some Little League team played in the rain tonight. LOL!

  45. 2008 May 2 at 9:15 pm
