I have never met any of the Sox, but oh my lord I have a million and a half connections to them.
Also, my mom’s boyfriend was drafted in 1965 by them and pitched one game at Fenway. He met Yaz and all the other 1967 guys. I think that’s the most impressive connection.
I’ve talked briefly to Jed, Clay, Masterson, Hansack… and all the rest of the boys at the rookie development signing!
That means… Chris Carter, Michael Bowden, Dusty Brown, Jon Van Every, Bubba Bell, Aaron Bates, Dustin Richardson, and Hunter Jones!

I’ve never met any of them. My grandmother knew Carlton Fisk’s mother and for my 16th birthday got me an autographed ball. That’s my only connection.

Honestly, I’ve never really wanted to go so far as to meet them. No, I mean, I’d love to, but I just can’t bring myself to. I’d feel so weird about it.
Plus my Boston cynical soul would be like… this is SOOOO fake, they’re on autopilot.
I know that’s cranky and everything, I don’t look down on people who do go out to meet them, but I can’t be the only one who feels this way.

mhc and Ellen: I see where you’re coming from too, although I think it would be fun to meet some of them in a more relaxed, less “autopilot” setting. Say, maybe lunch w/Papi and Manny. I can see that being a blast, although maybe the former waiters would beg to differ.
