Liza– I don’t think that question is creepy. Anyways, I used to ride in the 6th-8th grade (actually, it was with the friend that I went to the Paw Sox game with) but then I started playing softball and I started choosing sleeping over waking up early to go riding and stuff. My sister is the real horse person, but sometimes I go to the barn and ride a little.

And do you like Carlos Gomez? I really love him. Just throwing this out there- he’s adorable. And go figure he’s a centerfielder. I love Mauer, too.

And ftr, JD’s bat got hot as soon as his boy was out of the body cast.

    bahahha, nice catch.

Better safe than sorry. And that’s awesome–I’ve been taking lessons for almost four years and I totally love it. Of course, my teacher’s at college now so I haven’t actually been taking lessons this winter, but I still ride when I can and love love love it when I can.

    Yeah! Gomez is awesome.

    Nice catch. Wow.

  5. 2008 May 12 at 9:23 pm

    that was pretty fahkin funny

  6. 2008 May 12 at 9:24 pm

And fc, don’t forget, his wife was pregnant throughout the entire season. She had the kid (a girl) literally a few days after JD got home from the victory parade in Boston.

  7. 2008 May 12 at 9:24 pm

Choco, YES to the Carlos Gomez question!
The only part about him I don’t like, aside from him not playing for the Sox, is that he has the same last name as Scott Gomez (Scotty used to play for the NJ Devils, but then he went to the Rangers).

goes to show how hard his son’s disability hit him

  9. 2008 May 12 at 9:27 pm

his wife also had a very hard pregnancy as well plus having to take care of his son too. It’ll wear on ya. They are human after all

  10. 2008 May 12 at 9:28 pm

He’s a family-oriented guy, I think. He grew up in a town with about 1,500 people, in any case.

  11. 2008 May 12 at 9:31 pm

Here’s an article on Drew with a bunch of good quotes.

  12. 2008 May 12 at 9:31 pm

Celtics down 2 at the half.

CLEVELAND’S ASDRUBAL CABRERA RECORDED AN UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY IN THE TOP OF THE FIFTH INNING against the blue jays. IT WAS THE 14TH UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY IN MAJOR LEAGUE HISTORY.

Did you see the segment on The Ultimate Red Sox Show where he goes back to his hometown?

I was talking about J.D. Drew, by the way.

  16. 2008 May 12 at 9:33 pm

    Yes, I did! Both parts.

  17. 2008 May 12 at 9:33 pm

I have that up on my blog somewhere Choco and I’m too lazy to look up what posts it is in. I’m sure it’s up on NESN’s site though since they revamped it.

  18. 2008 May 12 at 9:34 pm

I didn’t realize Drew was so religious; he cried during Passion of the Christ:

“The film moved Drew in ways he’d never felt. There, on the big screen, was the man to whom he had devoted his life; a man who suffered and suffered, then finally fulfilled his destiny. Besides causing tears to stream down Drew’s cheeks, it gave him a new perspective.

“I’ve had my trials and tribulations,” he says. “But whatever happens, in the end I’m just a baseball player. I’m not the savior. I’m not special. I’m just human. I can only be me.”"

  19. 2008 May 12 at 9:34 pm

and i meant to add, they showed that way back in the beginning of the spring training.

  20. 2008 May 12 at 9:35 pm

He’s quite religious–he met his wife at his hometown’s church. Most of them are.

  21. 2008 May 12 at 9:35 pm

Hi everyone. just got back from work. What the hell happened? We are on our 3rd pitcher? wow.

  22. 2008 May 12 at 9:35 pm

    *them = baseball players.

    I am so tired.

They first played that segment back in December, I think – and ran it through spring training… and they’ve been playing it again.

    It’s still cute – and I’ve seen it 5 or 6 times.

J.D. Drew is so freaking cool.

My pastor referred to him in a sermon once. Something about his post season grand slam.

  27. 2008 May 12 at 9:37 pm

Ian, I think they even showed a piece of it – maybe just a teaser? – during the winter meetings.

  28. 2008 May 12 at 9:38 pm

like i said NJ, I’m too lazy to go look. I can only multitask so much. I’m working on my softball site, watching the Red Sox and the Celtics plus watching the Indians/blue jays game.

  29. 2008 May 12 at 9:38 pm

It’s adorable. I’m not religious, personally, but the parts where he talks about his family and his childhood are just so cute.

    Hey, speaking of which…

  30. 2008 May 12 at 9:40 pm

jenny, I just saw your post about Beckett…I would have slept in the airport to get him to sign my shirt. Sad I know but he’s my fave

  33. 2008 May 12 at 9:40 pm

  34. 2008 May 12 at 9:41 pm

  35. 2008 May 12 at 9:41 pm

  36. 2008 May 12 at 9:42 pm

    Remy loves travelling.

  37. 2008 May 12 at 9:43 pm

  40. 2008 May 12 at 9:44 pm

someone call Japanese Airlines and report him. LOL.

  41. 2008 May 12 at 9:44 pm

di – yeah, i’m kind of regretting my decision to be responsible and get on my plane this afternoon. i was wearing my beckett t, too! should’ve taken one for the team and gone looking for him. ;D could’ve been epic if the airline had had to page me to get the hell on my flight …

    i call a do-over! ;D

  42. 2008 May 12 at 9:47 pm

If I could I would call a do over for you and send you my shirt as well. I’ve been hinting to my bro to try and get me an autograph [insert item here] from Becks for my bday. We’ll see how that goes

  43. 2008 May 12 at 9:50 pm

Yeow–I hope he’s okay. Ankle rolls are freakin’ painful.

  44. 2008 May 12 at 9:50 pm

  45. 2008 May 12 at 9:50 pm

And nice running catch by Coco.

  46. 2008 May 12 at 9:51 pm

jenny: SO close (and yet so far away) :)

I found out a few weeks ago that the daughter of a close family friend is dating a Sox pitching prospect — and since he’s (the prospect) also from the Houston area, he’s tight with Beckett. I will shamelessly work that connection, yes.
