Jamaican Flavor

Jamaican baseball has arrived! With his first major league win last night, star prospect and Jamaican-born Justin Masterson officially joined the illustrious roster of Jamaican baseball players. A roster that includes Chili Davis, Devon White, Rolando Roomes and… that’s about it. Still, yay Jamaica! While you were busy caring about cricket and track (and bobsled), you managed to produce the Red Sox #1 pitching prospect.

Justin also earned himself a promotion from double-A Portland to triple-A Pawtucket – which means he’ll get to join Julian Tavarez on the PawSox.

And just because, some video of Justin Masterson awhile back, lookin’ all young and “golly gee aww shucks” in Portland… after the jump.

Masterson is just about the coolest person ever.

(…The spam filter is going to hate me for this.)

(And, yes, each word is a separate link.)

    Aw, Masterson!
He makes me think of the movie “Cool Runnings.” Now that song they sing is going to be stuck in my head all day…
Some people say you know you can’t believe, Jamaica has a bobsled team.

but he’s not a “real” Jamaican – his parents were missionaries, and he was just born there, and didnt they move back to the States right away?

I do love me some Masterson though…and MY is HE a big boy! 6′6!

I always think Jacoby looks to be on the short side, even though he’s 6′1″, but then I realize it’s cuz he standing next to a bunch of our pitchers, tall strapping men that they are!
