Blame It On Papelbon
A pitchers’ duel is way more fun when your pitcher is the one who emerges victorious. Josh Beckett sledgehammered his way through 8 innings, striking out 8 batters — and only running into trouble in the 7th with a pair of walks, a pair of hits and a pair of earned runs. Unfortunately, Arizona’s Dan Haren was just as filthy, blanking the Sox for 7 innings completely… and the Sox weren’t able to muster enough runs against the Zona pen.
At least fans at Fenway once again were treated to (distracted by?) the dulcet tones of Milli Vanilli, and the lip synching stylings of Jonathan Papelbon and Manny Delcarmen. Before the game, both of the guys talked a little about what went into making the video:

But that’s not the full story.
It was only later that Manny revealed that he and Papelbon got roped into doing the stunt because someone in the bullpen – on a dare – threw a baseball at a videocamera and broke the lens… and the pen blamed it on Papelbon (of course). So the music video was to compensate the Fenway Park folks for the busted camera.

At this point, with all the crazy antics Papelbon’s gotten up to, he’s going to get blamed anytime anything bad happens. Something’s broken? Papelbon did it. Something goes missing? Papelbon’s dog ate it. Someone was spotted wearing a black lace shirt and/or a Budweiser box on their head and dancing around? Had to be Papelbon. He only has himself to blame.

Too funny about blaming it on Papelbon. Is it me or are the players completely uncomfortable around Heidi Watney? It’s kinda painful to watch.
Everyone at my house (and school, church, etc) blames stuff on me too, Pap.
The video on every rain delay.

Thanks for posting the videos, Texy–a great way to start the day! Paps is too funny. MDC seemed much more comfortable discussing the video in the second clip.
Nuff goofing off for me, time to get to work.
the Ortiz impression is priceless – “Santa laughing” – love it.
^haha I know, that was hilarious!!! Poor Paps….
That’s absolutely priceless. I wonder who threw the ball originally (and who did the daring, too)?
I would have guessed MDC did the throwing — but since he claims it wasn’t him, I’m gonna go with Craig Hansen as the culprit. I still bet Paps was the one who did the daring, though.
MDC was my guess, but if it was Hansen, it would make sense–rookie hazing, maybe?
ima callin Ortiz “Santa” from now on…
I do love MDC’s dancin skillz. especially while wearing track pants. that’s my hometown BOY!
I was actually debating this with a friend the other day -which came first, the Manny wig or the rain delay song. I was thinking that maybe they came across the wigs first (most likely in Japan) and were like “haha, lets be Manny for halloween!” kind of thing, then when the idea for the song came up (most likely during a rain delay), they were like “and we can use the manny wigs! COOL!” and thats how it all came together.
