Yes, I am outrageously happy the Sox are playing my hometown Astros.

Yes, I am overwhelmingly distraught I am not back home to watch them.

  2. 2008 June 27 at 7:06 pm

And yes you’re so excited that you moved the game time up an hour and forgot to tell the Red Sox & astros

Texy, I didn’t realize you’re from Houston. My favorite cousin is down there, although he’s an unreconstructed New Yorker even after 20 years in Houston, and he pulls for the Yankees. He sent me an e-mail a couple of days ago telling me that he hopes the Astros win these games. I’m tempted to go down there and put a hurting on him for that, LOL.

Anyway, I’m still at work and am having a goof-off moment. Check out Gameday while you’re all waiting for the game to start. It has a new set of viewing options, with panning and zooming and all sorts of fun stuff. I’m non-TV again, so will enjoy the new toy when I finally get home!

    See you folks in awhile…

    Hey guys!
I’m back from my dangerous week adventure in Tampa X(
I don’t know how often I’ll be in here, but I thought I would say hi!

This is actually also the first game I decided I would watch while poking around in Gameday….

Is is wrong that I’m more looking forward to the Ray series than the Yankee series?

  6. 2008 June 27 at 8:00 pm

It just might be, Erin – depends on your reasons.

    fc NEVER pulls punches.

Also – how many Beckett family members and friends will be in attendance on Sunday? Over/under at 30.

  8. 2008 June 27 at 8:01 pm

Aaaaahhhhh…..weekend! I am *SO* looking forwsrd to kicking back and enjoying the game!

So Erin, I echo what fc said. :-)

  9. 2008 June 27 at 8:02 pm

Which means that you and fc are two of a kind, TG! ;-)

I’m so looking forward to enjoying this game. After watching (and loving) the Yankee pitching get destroyed this afternoon, I’m hoping for a good game by the Sox.

I’m so mad at myself because I have David Wright on my fantasy team and I forgot about the afternoon game today and he wasn’t on my starting roster for today

  14. 2008 June 27 at 8:06 pm

I think the Rays are probably more crucial right now because of the standings, but both series should be interesting nonetheless.

  15. 2008 June 27 at 8:06 pm

Beckett family! Will we be treated to “Behind the Scenes With the Becketts” coverage a la Youk in Cincinnati? Please?

What the hell is with mlb.tv? Is Houston always like this?

  18. 2008 June 27 at 8:08 pm

That looks more like a zoo exhibit of a ballpark than like an actual ballpark.

  19. 2008 June 27 at 8:09 pm

Hey Jessi, GMTA…don’t worry about it!

The Juicebox rules for the following reasons:

    1. They serve ACTUAL margaritas, not the fakeass weak mixed-drink flavored water some parks serve.

    2. I used to work in a skyscraper downtown, and could look down into the park (when the roof was open) and watch games.

    3. The serve ACTUAL Mexican food.

    4. Tal’s Hill.

  21. 2008 June 27 at 8:12 pm

    You had me at “margaritas.”

  22. 2008 June 27 at 8:12 pm

Hey, did anyone see what was up with Dustin after they first tried to get him out at first? He was messing with something and stuck it to the bottom of his helmet….

Why is there a hill out in center field?

  25. 2008 June 27 at 8:13 pm

Oh, that sounds like the best, TG!

    Okay, Manuel, it’s your turn…

  26. 2008 June 27 at 8:14 pm

Just keep playing with the views and panning until you find one that suits ya, Bethie!

  27. 2008 June 27 at 8:14 pm

Manny’s single red dread: cryptic message or fashion statement?

  28. 2008 June 27 at 8:15 pm

So he’s got a red one now? The other night I thought I saw a single white one. Don’t know the reason, though.

Technically, it’s not indoor. The roof is open – so it looks basically like any other ballpark.

  30. 2008 June 27 at 8:23 pm

Sorry TG. I just find ballparks with roofs weird. Makes it nice if it rains….but it just doesn’t make sense to me.

    Go figure. :)

  35. 2008 June 27 at 8:27 pm

    Hi Newington!

It doesn’t have a roof for rain – it has a roof because it’s over 100 degrees throughout the summer (and over 90 degrees into late October) plus 100% humidity (thanks, Gulf! thanks, swamps!). It is like having a wet wool blanket draped around you… in 100 degree temperatures.

Put it this way: Houston has tunnels underneath the city that connect all the buildings downtown. Not steam tunnels, to get out of the snow — but because the heat is so awfully oppressive.

    Hi All,

BUSY day. My kidlet is going to camp and am getting her packed and ready to ship out. DH and I are going to Tahoe tomorrow to see Alison Krauss and Robert Plant (I’m so excited to see him!!!!) There WILL be a margarita in my near future.

Interesting ball park with the hill and pole that is in play. Real margaritas and mexican food? I can live with that.

I didn’t know that about the tunnels, TG. That’s pretty amazing. I’d love to visit my several family members who live in Houston, but it would have to be in the dead of winter because I can’t deal with 90+.

Back in high school, I was on dance team – and we used to have 2-a-days in the summer like the football team. How more kids don’t die while doing that stuff outside in the Houston heat for 7 or 8 hours a day in August, I have no idea.

Then again, it sure is awesome to go home at Thanksgiving or Christmas and wear short sleeves and shorts.

P.S. about Alison Krauss…the very first time I heard her sing, she had just released her first album (on vinyl…it was around 1986). She was about 16 years old, and the sound guys at the festival had to keep tweaking the system because her voice was so powerful that she kept overloading it. I actually was rather sorry when it became evident in later years that she had reined it in so much…but she’s still an amazing singer.

I love, LOVE, LOOOOOOOVE Robert Plant (BIG Led Zeppelin fan) and have always been a fan of Alison Krauss. I couldn’t believe it when I heard they were doing a CD (which is awesome, btw). An outdoor concert at Lake Tahoe is too much to pass up.

TG, my aforementioned favorite cousin down there is a phys ed teacher/coach/personal trainer, and he coaches both indoors and outdoors. How he stands it or survives it I don’t know. It does explain why he keeps his head shaved the majority of the time (he’s got thick curly black hair…can you imagine how much that would hold the heat?).
