NASCAR Is Not A Sport

This will most likely be the only time you’ll ever see me post anything about NASCAR – despite what ESPN would like us to believe, it is NOT a sport – but lord knows that if a Sox player is involved, I can be convinced to care about almost anything.

Yesterday at Fenway was a big ol’ Roush Fenway Racing corporate synergy and product placement extravaganza – which included bringing out several of the team drivers in the back of a pickup truck filled with little kids (no, I swear) and draping a giant checkered flag over the Monster (emblazoned with the corporate logos, of course). Unfortunately, this also lead to another day of less-than-fascinating in-booth interviews during the game… but fortunately, it meant there was an excuse for Jon Lester to be interviewed on ESPN’s NASCAR news show.

Of course, this wasn’t the first time the Red Sox and Roush Fenway Racing teamed up for some mutual self-promotion and corporate synergy — back in February of last year, Josh Beckett, Mike Timlin and Tim Wakefield all made an appearance in Daytona, Florida to help announce the Roush/Fenway partnership. Which gives me a perfect excuse to post pictures of that event.

Josh Beckett in cowboy boots for the win!

There’s this video from Roush day last year…most if it sucks, but at around 45 seconds in Beckett gives a jersey to McMurray and says something like “Extra extra small for you!” Kinda funny.

I hvae to say that Beckett looks cuter in regular clothes than in his baseball uniform…although Im still not on the bandwagon of He’s Hot. I still want to drink a brewski with him. Cant wait to see him pitch on Sunday at the JuiceBox

BTW what’s with pulling the pitchers into this? Are they trying to imply that race car driver = pitcher?
    Cuz…NOT!!

I think it’s more the case that the pitchers all happen to be big ol’ rednecks who actually like NASCAR. God help them.

Beckett looks very at home (and very, um…good) leaning against a stock car for some reason.

My mother’s a rabid (and I mean insufferably rabid) Dale Earnhardt Jr NASCAR fan, and I tag along with my parents to the September race in New Hampshire every year. It’s pretty fun, actually. The Roush-Red Sox connection has made it even better, as it’s much easier for me to pick cars to root for now. Heh.

Beckett looks amazing, I have to agree with everyone else. I’m so mad that he’s not pitching in the Tampa Bay series because I’m headed to Florida to see all 3 games!

I will be at Monday night’s game in Tampa. I got a seat behind the bullpen, my favorite place to be. I couldn’t handle Tuesday night, Wakefield, no Tek.
