I’ve never been to Bertucci’s, but I can tell you that it HAS TO be better than the Olive Garden. Growing up Italian, I can’t call that Italian food…. But that’s just me :P

I actually went to a pretty good Italian restaurant in Virginia Beach, of all places.

Philadelphia and Brooklyn, that will definitely help. Sort of like the local bagel place here that used to be run by a couple from New Jersey. Primo authentic bagels, kettle boiled. They sold out recently and although the new (non-Northern) owners use the same technique, they just don’t have the same touch.

Faith–seriously? My husband’s from there, my in-laws are still there, where’d you go?

I once ate alone at this awesome Italian restaurant in San Diego (!)

Trish, you’ve got a point there…wow, didn’t know that gyms open that early. Or is it a 24-hour gym?

Mary, I’m with you on the Olive Garden. I’ve only been there once, for a department lunch at an old job, and I definitely was NOT impressed.

It’s 24-hour except on the weekends.

Ian–I forget you’re in New Haven and therefore have access to Pepe’s. Ate there once in college and STILL remember how good the pizza was.

Trish, I have no idea what it was called. This was last year, though, so it’s probably still there. As for location, okay, we were staying at the Marriott on 25th (?) right on the beach. The restaurant was inland maybe a block or two, south from 25th a ways (so a lower number). It had a large and *very* noisy main room with a high ceiling, and a little side porch, which was where my family members and I sat (so we could hear ourselves think). There was a very elderly retired nun taking tips in the ladies room in exchange for hand towels. Does that sound familiar?

We also ate at a fabulous seafood/Italian restaurant right on the beach at the very bottom end of that main drag (Atlantic?).

Papi thigh slap per WRKO? Frustrated Papi!

Rusty, at my 2004 family reunion we found not one but TWO awesome Italian restaurants. Couldn’t tell you where or their names, though.

Yes i’ve got accesss to all those good italian restaurants in New Haven. I like Modern Pizza better than Pepe’s or Sally’s.

It might have been Il Giordino on 10th Street (in fact my in-laws call the place Tenth Street). That’s the only Italian place I know in that area. The food’s pretty good. The best Italian in VA Beach is Isle of Capri, which is on top of the Holiday Inn there. Gorgeous views of the beach and really good food. My father-in-law knows the owner so we get stuff that’s not listed on the menu like she-crab soup (FABULOUS!).

  14. 2008 July 25 at 9:07 pm

    LOL, Rusty!

Trish, I’m going to Google that and see if I recognize it…the other one you mention sounds lovely! Of course, as we were staying at the Marriott no one thought to inquire about the Holiday Inn…

I’m watching the game, and not finding it particularly interesting. Is it my soccer player lust, or is the game not particularly interesting (or fun, for that matter)?

    Pitchers’ duels are never exciting.

Lisa, it might, but the world will never know ;)

  19. 2008 July 25 at 9:12 pm

Trish, yep, I think that’s the one. A little hard to tell without a full view of the great room, but the review mentions an “enclosed patio” and I think I found the entree I had (if my memory is working, it was the salmon and angel hair pasta).

Trish, I usually like pitchers’ duels, strangely enough. I’m currently posting at another site and reading a third. And I switched the TV to Monk ;)

  21. 2008 July 25 at 9:14 pm

Yeah, I’m pretty distracted myself…researching restaurants, playing with potential LJ icons, eating an enormous plate of leftover freebie Mexican food from some honcho business meeting that was down the hall from me today…

Nothing wrong with free Mexican food.

And on that note I’ll take my leave, I’m passing out at the keyboard. GO YANKEES!!!! :D

  24. 2008 July 25 at 9:17 pm

Free Mexican food from the best Mexican restaurant in Asheville (and there are several good ones).

    Have a great sleep, Trish!

    WTF JOBA

  30. 2008 July 25 at 9:18 pm

Damn…WRKO is saying it really almost hit him.

  31. 2008 July 25 at 9:19 pm

It almost took his head off. Plus it hit the bat as he was trying to avoid it.

  32. 2008 July 25 at 9:19 pm

It either glanced off his helmet or Molina’s glove, it was pretty hard to tell.

  33. 2008 July 25 at 9:20 pm

    That was…. kinda ridiculous.

I kinda wished Beckett went nutso, though…

  34. 2008 July 25 at 9:20 pm

No, it definitely hit the bat. So, to add insult to potential injury, Youk gets a strike. And then he’s all flustered and swings at pitches well out of the zone to strike out.

how did Joba get the nickname Joba? Does anyone know?

  38. 2008 July 25 at 9:24 pm
    Liza permalink

    From Wiki:

“Joba’s niece was unable to pronounce the name Justin correctly, pronouncing it as Joba instead and he grew to prefer this name. He eventually had his name legally changed to Joba.”

  39. 2008 July 25 at 9:24 pm

As a child, he was a moron who couldn’t pronounce the word “Justin,” and instead said, “Joba.” He liked it, and had it legally changed.

  40. 2008 July 25 at 9:25 pm

Whoops. I read a different site that said the wrong thing. That actually makes it worse. A child can’t pronounce your name, so you change it to something quite reminiscent of a fat Star Wars character?

That seals my opinion on this douche.

    Rant over.

  41. 2008 July 25 at 9:26 pm
