Fantastic Timing

Someone in the Portland Sea Dogs is psychic… and has a wicked sense of humor.

After being demoted from the big boy Sox down to the AA-Sea Dogs last week, Clay Buchholz is making his first start for Portland tonight at Hadlock Field. And in a stroke of horrible coincidence (genius?), tonight is Clay Buchholz Bobblehead night.

Meant to be a tribute to the no-hitter hurler major leaguer by his former minor league club, the Buchholz Bobble (sporting a Sea Dogs uni) is now an awfully ironic reminder of how fleeting big league status can be.

At least he’ll be a record-breaker: Clay will be the first Sea Dogs player appearing at Hadlock Field the same night his own bobblehead is being given away. Gulp.
