Shouldn’t be doing what, Jules? Bought it in December and it has a 5-year warranty. Wouldn’t having an active Internet modem keep it “awake?” It’s a Vista, and I know they have glitches…this one has a couple of quirks. Should I call Circuit City and talk them into a house call? I think they *will* do them. I’m not physically capable of lifting the tower, never mind figuring out how to disconnect and reconnect all this stuff (I’m officially a technodummy). I don’t think it’s outside corruption, given the firewalls, antivirus, antispyware and whole nine yards that I have installed on it. So I’m assuming it’s internal…?

P.S. My ISP techies told me that it DOES take awhile for the modem stuff to reload after being disconnected. They suggested giving it at least 1/2 hour.

Are all ball girls dumb, or just the ones I’ve seen?

Maybe it’s a prerequisite to be a ball girl you have to be an airhead.

  8. 2008 August 20 at 8:14 pm

A half hour, ecl? Unless it’s a hand-crank model that sounds like nonsense to me.

If Clay doesn’t shape up my 4 yr old is going to have an aneurysm watching this game.

  10. 2008 August 20 at 8:14 pm

I’m feeling bad for the ballgirl. The ump did make a bit of a late call. I mean, she should have been paying better attention, but still. Thats pretty embarrassing.

ecl, seems like you’re learning a lesson in why no one should ever own a PC. Macs rule, PCs drool.

Hey Clay….reach down deep inside and grab some pre-sunday Beckett and please start throwing fucking strikes.

Cause if you don’t I’m probably gonna hurl.

    K? Please and thank you!

Did anyone just hear Remmy call Clay “Buckhouse?”

    Clay, honey, deary, calm down…

  13. 2008 August 20 at 8:17 pm

Should Buchholz really continue to have a spot in the rotation?

    Oh boy.

    I feel awful for Clay.

  15. 2008 August 20 at 8:18 pm

This is not going well. Aw, Clay’s over-the-shoulder look at the bullpen…

ecl, an active connection shouldn’t keep it awake. I do know that the spyware apps can slow down your computer, especially with Vista. A half hour for a modem to reload seems a bit much. But, then again, I avoid PCs, so am not an expert.

Dammit, Clay! I’m cheering for you and want to to kick ass, but dude, this isn’t good.

LOL, Kim. She has a lot of company.

  18. 2008 August 20 at 8:20 pm

He has zero control and zero confidence. And the more he pitches badly, the less confidence he has. Not a good combination.

Remy’s saying the same thing, but I swear I typed it first.

fc, there was a considerable language barrier with the techie who told me that. I’m usually good with accents, but I had a devil of a time communicating with him, so perhaps we misunderstood each other. And it seems like the rev-up time is a lot quicker than that, really. Sometimes I wonder about issues with server traffic on my ISP during the early evening. It’s lickety-split at the moment.

Erin-2, my first PC (which was a Windows 98) gave me 5 completely trouble-free years. And that was with virtually no protection installed (because I didn’t know any better). My only experience with a Mac was abysmal, but then again it was in the mid-80s. I found it extremely NOT user-friendly. Hopefully the technology has improved since then. I’m very, very used to Windows. I’m just not tech-oriented enough to figure out what to do with the occasional glitches.

I think he needs to go down to AAA before he loses every single ounce of confidence he has ever had.

jules…. I’m laughing that you said SHE for my 4 yr old. He’s a HE but my 7 yr old daughter is watching the game too.

Jules, it’s probably the spyware apps…I have the updating message enabled and it usually comes up shortly after I reboot (or wake up) the computer.

And Clay is making me sad too.

Pitch a strike damn it. A strike.

  25. 2008 August 20 at 8:23 pm

People who are used to Windows tend to find Mac user unfriendly. That never makes sense to me, because it is, in fact, a more intuitive and easy-to-use platform (I have lots of experience with both). And five trouble-free years are quite rare with PCs that run Windows.

Yeah, mid-80s Macs should definitely not be compared to today’s versions. But, if Windows works for you, and doesn’t cause you problems, keep using them. No reason to change. I’ll just say that I’ve had eight or ten different Mac computers over the last decade (the high turnover rate has more to do with my love for shiny new things than with the dependability of the devices), and I think I’ve had one of them crash on me once. Once in a decade. Not many PC users can say that.

    Plus, no viruses.

Erin-2: yep on both counts: Mac and Clay.

His confidence is shot. It doesn’t help that they talked to the media about finding the answer to his pitching problems. He’s putting a lot of pressure on himself.

I don’t know what it is about him (probably the skanky Penthouse girlfriend), but I just can’t muster any sympathy for Buchholz. I want him to just suck it up and pitch well. Get his shit together, in other words.

It’s deja vu all over again.

I wonder if some more time at Pawtucket would do him some good–get it straightened out and find his confidence.
