Who’s NOT Hurt?
With the latest spate of injuries forcing David Aardsma and J.D. “Snowflake” Drew back onto the DL, the Red Sox are once again staring down a fairly scary injuries list. Let’s take a look at who all has missed playing time this season (whether officially going on the DL or not):
- David Aardsma
Jason Bay
Josh Beckett
Clay Buchholz
Sean Casey
Bartolo Colon
Alex Cora
Coco Crisp
Manny Delcarmen
J.D. Drew
Jacoby Ellsbury
Mike Lowell
Julio Lugo
Daisuke Matsuzaka
(Brandon Moss)
David Ortiz
(Manny Ramirez)
Curt Schilling
Mike Timlin
Tim Wakefield
Kevin Youkilis
That list is so long, it’s actually much easier to take a look at who HASN’T been hurt – a list that includes all of ten names – including two guys who didn’t start the season in the bigs, and another guy who wasn’t even on our team until recently:
- Kevin Cash
Paul Byrd
Jon Lester
Javier Lopez
Jed Lowrie
Justin Masterson
Dustin Pedroia
Hideki Okajima
Jonathan Papelbon
Jason Varitek
That means Dustin Pedroia is the only Opening Day infielder to stay healthy all season (and after what happened last year, who the hell knows- he actually could be playing with two broken legs and a brain tumor). And Jon Lester is the only Opening Day starting pitcher to stay off the DL.

Well I dunno about Varitek not being hurt. Keep in ind that he also was really really sick about twiceover this season with a form the Zombie Death Flu which also hit Delcarmen, Dice, Clay, and I think Beckett too.
I was conflicted which group to include him in — but since neither the Red Sox official transaction wire listed him as being held out, nor did the SI or ESPN injury reports list him as missing a game, I put him in the latter group.
I don’t know if this counts, but Dustin did miss a few games in ST from the flu. Remember, he wouldn’t stay home?
Besides, he can’t be on the bench. He just refuses to. I’ll bet he’s a huge pain in the ass when given a day off.
I say the death flu counts. That shit was BAD. As they’ve pointed out, Tek could still be recovering all his strength given the severity of his case. (This isn’t excuse-making, it’s a legitimate point being made. I swear the flu does this, having lived through it.)
Also, was our NARCISSISTIC MANCHILD DL’d back in Pittsburgh? Because he’s definitely played every game since his arrival (shocking to have that consistency in LF). If so, does that really count as a Red Sox injury/illness?
ST doesn’t count – because missing ST games doesn’t impact the season.
And Jason “New Guy” “Sunflower of Perfection” “Beaker” “NARCISSISTIC MANCHILD” Bay was indeed held out for a spell in Pittsburgh in June. And since I was looking at who on the team has stayed healthy all season, I can’t count him… because he hasn’t.
Injuries? Hasn’t anyone Hammering Hank Steinbrenner this year? They have had the WORST injuries of ANY team in the history of baseball!
