Yea about the football/baseball thing, I was planning on writing my spanish essay – that’s not happening.

BTW–Gabe Kapler’s homer breaks up Chris Young’s perfect game for SD with two out in the eighth!

  4. 2008 September 7 at 4:17 pm

Well it’s definitely Coco increasing his trade value.

  5. 2008 September 7 at 4:17 pm

That was the longest batted ball ever by Jacoby

Aw that sucks for Chris Young – so close. I was watching some Mariner pitcher no-hit the Yanks the other night until Wilson Betimet (sp?) hit a double in the 8th w/ two outs.

Thanks, fc — my writing style is pretty much instinctive because I no longer remember “the rules,” but I must have learned these things well at some point in the distant past.

Jessi, that was Brandon Morrow (and it’s Betemit). I so wanted him to get the no-no–I like him, and plus it’s the Yankees he’s against.

fc: The best writing is always instinctive. If you have to think about the rules, your style will almost certainly suffer.

Jessi: Yeah, it sucks for Young, but the Lester fan in me thinks that his no-hitter should stand alone this season.

And gotta love the fact that the YOOOOOOOOOUK cries can be heard over the apathetic Rangers fans!

  27. 2008 September 7 at 4:24 pm

my guess lone is that half the crowd is Sox fans.

lone, even though I write instinctively, you’d be amazed at how long I labor over what I write. I edit and re-edit until it says exactly what I’m thinking, even if it’s two or three sentences. That’s why a lot of my posts here are delayed.

Er, the comment to fc was obviously meant for ecl. (:: smacks self ::)

Ian: Yeah, I suspect that’s true. But it’s still hilarious how well it’s carrying–it’s almost as loud as the play-by-play on WRKO.

  32. 2008 September 7 at 4:26 pm

lone/ecl: It helps to know the rules so they become second nature. I’m a grammar geek and I love the rules, but break them regularly, intentionally, for effect.

Karen, I’m so jealous! All three games?

Hey all, I’m glad I could hang while the laundry was washing, but now it’s dryer time so I must go. Enjoy the rest of the game, in case I don’t get back by the end.

  34. 2008 September 7 at 4:27 pm

    there’s rules here? :D LOL

Liza – I was so rooting for the no-hitter. But the fact that the Yanks got two-hit by Seattle (!!) pitchers, one making his first start, was good enough for me.

    (sorry for the delayed response)

fc, maybe that’s why it’s second nature to me. It was pretty well drilled into me from an early age. Also, I’ve always had a facility with language. Learned to read very early, wrote a lot as a kid, and did well with foreign languages. Language-related classes were my strongest suit and my favorite thing besides music classes.

The only downside to 3 games, is $10/game for parking. And in order to get parking, you have to arrive 3hrs before the game, but they don’t let you in until 1hr 30 min before the game. Hopefully not that hot this time. I couldn’t afford a hotel nearby, so it’s about 15 minutes away. I do like the area, so hanging out during the day will be good.

  42. 2008 September 7 at 4:34 pm

Just go down to Clearwater Beach for the day and get some sun. Then head down the road to the Trop.

ecl: I had the mechanics of good writing drilled into me my junior year in high school, by an engineer-turned-English teacher who cheerfully pointed out every grammatical and usage mistake. Personally, I always appreciate a well-written essay; bad writing drives me insane, because I find myself spending far too long trying to figure out what the author is really trying to say. (Don’t get me started on the journal articles I have to review from China.)
