NY Hearts Josh Beckett

Even as they’re shutting off the lights at (the non-original) Yankee Stadium, New York apparently can’t get enough of Josh Beckett.

Universal Hub’s Adam Gaffin snapped this photo of a giant billboard for postseason baseball in Times Square – which prominently features the apple of New York’s eye, David Wright, and the spurs on Boston’s boots, Josh Beckett. Reportedly, neither Saint Derek Jeter nor Devil Incarnate Alex Rodriguez were anywhere to be found – possibly because NYC realizes their best shot at getting a team in the postseason comes from Queens (not the Bronx).

Mr. Times Square will take on Cleveland’s Zach Jackson tonight at Fenway, hoping to lock down the Red Sox playoff berth. Maybe if they clinch, Josh will crack a smile.

That is way too funny. Looking forward to watching Beckett. Wouldn’t mind a replica of that.

I’m going to NYC in a few weeks. I’ll have to make a point to go by and check it out. I have a picture of last year’s with Papi on it. That’s awesome! People realize that Josh is post season!!

David Wright *sigh* And haha to Josh Beckett on a billboard in NYC. That is awesome!!!!
Was anyone else at least a little sad about Yankee Stadium’s final game? Maybe its because it was the first place I ever saw a baseball game (being from NY and all) but I found myself tearing up.

I’m a former NYY fan (jumped the fence to the Sox last year) and a native NYer, and I also am a total shameless sap when it comes to baseball history, so yeah, I was sad. I allowed myself an evening of total nostalgic indulgence, and ended up going through about a half box of Kleenex during the pregame ceremony, no exaggeration.

    Hehe “Devil Incarnate.”

Even though I am clearly biased against New York, I thought yesterday was pretty touching. I didn’t watch the whole pregame thing but I was switching back and forth between the game and another show and it was nice how all the fans were cheering SO loud.

    ecl1958,
I was a NYY fan too until 1999 when I went with my mom to a Yankee/Red Sox game at Yankee Stadium. It was the game that Pedro Martinez struck out 17 batters. Even at my young age of 10, I knew a good baseball player when I saw one. But I didn’t become a true Sox fan until 2000-2001. And I love Bernie Williams and Paul O’Neil and the 90s Yankees. I went through half a box of kleenex last night and all of my roommates (I go to school in Boston) were laughing at me.
