78 Days

It’s now just 78 days (!) until pitchers and catchers report to Fort Myers, with the first full-squad workout just six days after that. And just in time to drum up some anticipation, the Sox released their spring training game schedule today.

Some interesting notes:

  • The Sox open with a split squad scrimmage against Boston College on Feb. 25th – and also match up against Northeastern on the 28th.
  • They will host Team Puerto Rico (in anticipation of the World Baseball Classic) on March 5th… which side will Alex Cora play for?
  • Sox play fellow Ft. Myersians Minnesota five times, and the Rays four times.
  • The Ft. Myers games will wrap up on April 2nd with, of course, the Twins.

See the full slate after the jump…

I really want to go to spring training. Hopefully I can get tickets to a game that’s not during the classic, which lasts for almost 3 weeks total.

Someone must love me concerning March 5th is the day the Red Sox take on Team Puerto Rico. That is my birthday and that is pretty fabulous. Yes I am lame, I know. Not like I’ll be there but it’s still pretty cool.

I’d like to buy Spring tickets for my parents for Christmas but the prices for tix are crazy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might be able to find more affordable tickets?

I’m really bumming ’cause I’m on a cruise out of Miami from 3/5-8 & was hoping to shoot over the Ft. Myers for a game on either 3/4 or 3/9 before heading back to Boston. Of COURSE 3/4 is their off day and 3/9 they’re almost into Tampa and the drive would be terrible.

I think I’m going to try to get tickets for WBC v. the Orioles on 3/4 instead … wonder how much those’ll run me …

How much are the tickets? I was hoping to go but my only friend who’s semi interested is also very flaky – it’s hard to plan anything.

I’d go in a heartbeat, but unfortunately I live too far away. We’ll make the pilgrimage when the kidlet is off to college.
