The Widdlest Pedwoya

In honor of the reigning MVP: a video from a guy who seems to know very little about Dustin Pedroia cracks a very original joke about Dustin’s height. It’s amazing someone hasn’t picked up on the whole short thing before now!

Now, this is officially the end of the joke. Can we all cease talking about his height every single time Dustin’s name comes up now? In fact, I double dog dare every journalist out there to refrain from using any of the following words in a Dustin Pedroia story:

short
wee
small
tiny
5′9″ (wink!)
little
little big man
little engine that could

I doubt they’d make it a week.

I find that guy rather annoying and not funny. Except the part about Pap biting people and foaming at the mouth, because I can actually see that happening.

Pedroia has proven to everybody that he is incredibly talented so why does it matter how tall he is?

I’m also sick of “scrappy” and “grit”.

    Not to mention “little pony”

So yeah…Pedrioa is not number 23 as any real Sox fan would know…to confuse him with Lugo is just wrong.

beth – God, no kidding. “Caballito” time has come and gone. Although I would support it if Papi showed up in a My Little Caballito shirt.

SoxyLady – That’s what he gets for poor research. Well, and using the first image that came up on a Google image search.

I think my head would explode if I hear another “Pedroia is short” comment.

Texy – Papi showing up in a My Little Caballito shirt would be all kinds of awesome.

If I EVER EVER EVER meet that man on the street I’ll kick him in the groin faster than he can say Dustin Pedroia.

    I’ll add a triple-dog-dare.

The use of the above mentioned words and any mention of “scrappy” will be the sign of a lazy sports writer.

I couldn’t even finish this video. Puke. Making fun of Youk being Jewish is in poor taste (especially since he never made an issue of taking the Sabbath off).

Right now I’m busy whittling down one of Papi’s toothpicks into a bat to go deliver a beatdown. Anyone else want to come?

Personally, I can’t stand “spark plug.” It’s dumb.

Is 5′9 considered as small in US? I’m 5′9 but I’m taller than most people in Australia.

  13. 2008 November 18 at 11:24 pm

    Two things, Andy:

    1. 5′9″ is short for a ballplayer. The average height of a ballplayer is 6′1″.

    2. He’s far from being 5′9″. He’s lucky if he hits 5′6″. Which is why every reporter feels compelled to talk about his height all the time, rather than – you know – coming up with an original angle.

I see. Just another question, do MLB or NBA players normally add 1 or 2 inches on their listed height?

  15. 2008 November 19 at 8:50 am

    No problem!

Typically, no — usually there is no need because 95% of guys in the MLB, NBA (and NFL) are “tall enough” as it is.

At lower sports levels, it’s not at all uncommon for high schools and even colleges to add an inch or two to guys’ heights. But by the time an athlete makes it to the pros, there’s not really so much of that going on — because it’s usually only the biggest/tallest guys that make it all the way to the big leagues.
