Fond Farewell To Alex Cora

Coco Crisp… a Royal.
Kevin Cash… a Yankee.
And now Alex Cora… a Met.

Rob Bradford is reporting that Alex Cora signed a one-year deal with the Mets worth $2 million – which is the equivalent of the two-year, $4 million deal he had with the Red Sox for ‘07 and ‘08.

Like many others, Alex is represented by Scott Boras – and hopefully that didn’t play a part in the Sox front office’s decision to let him go. Although, in the wake of the Teixeira debacle, anything’s possible. Per WEEI:

The Scott Boras client did make one last call to the Red Sox Tuesday night to gauge the team’s interest, but with the presence of Julio Lugo and Jed Lowrie there didn’t prove to be a fit.

No word on whether this development puts a damper on the hopes of everyone who wanted to see him coaching for the Sox someday – stay out of the way on that one, Boras.

Thanks for everything, Alex.

Going Miss You, Alex. Good Luck with the Mets and crush off CC Sabathia during Interleague Play.

Cora as a Met? I can live with it. Besides, his skills have diminished a bit so I understand the reasonings. So I wish him luck and hope he does well as a Met. And perhaps maybe in 2010, he will return? That’d be pretty sweet.
    That’s all I got.

Best of luck to Cora–he’s a nice guy. Also, if he wants to come back some day when his playing career is over, I’m sure the Sox will welcome him back with open arms. And in other news related to guys we’d like to see coach the Sox one day, Kapler has apparently just signed a one-year deal with . . . the Rays. (Ugh!)
P.S. No idea at all what’s up with the Tek situation.

Aww…sad to see Cora go. I always really liked the guy. It’s not really a surprise though. I do remember Lowrie saying how much he learned from him and that his wealth of knowledge about the game of baseball was top notch. I do hope he gets to come back and coach with the Sox.
As for Tek, I don’t think he’s going to be back. I hope I am wrong, but nothing has been talked about. Even when Boras was on MLB Network talking about the free agents he is representing, the name Varitek never came out of his mouth. I unfortunately think that Jason may truly suffer from the bad taste in the mouth that the Sox have from the Teixeira dealings. pouts…
I did hear about Kapler. Schill actually mentioned it on his blog and said that it thought it was a signing that would have a huge impact in the Rays organization.

Even though I’m quite fond of the rest of our infield, I’ll certainly miss AC. He came across as a sweet person, and intelligent to boot. May New York treat him well, and I hope to see him coaching in Boston someday.

How long before someone named “SeeYaCora” posts?
I was fairly neutral on AC at first but I grew to like him quite a bit. I hope he does well with the Mets and, like everyone, hope to see him back in the organization some day!

I think the Mets are a very good fit. Good luck in the good part of New York AC, we will miss you. And I can see him being a very good coach or manager someday.
Though, I would rather have Cora over Lugo anyday…

LMAO that Cora called us and NOT Boras. That is classic.
By Varitek. You insist on that idiot being your agent then good riddance.

The Mets are my favorite NL team, so that works for me. As for Boras, can we get rid of him somehow?

Oh, Cora. Well… so long as we can have him back as a coach someday, this is okay.

I like Cora but I’m ok with him going. Boras is an ass. I hope Tek comes back but I’m not getting my hopes up.
