That would be one busy Yankees fan, because each of those comments was made by a different person at a different time. And the comments section was full of them.

He'll make a decent back up. Not a bad choice for back up, especialyl when we seem to get injuries at the worst time. The Yankees can go sign whoever they want. Fore YEARS they have had the biggest pay role and they haven't won shit. Gosh spring training needs to hurry up already.

mermaidmarian: Word. I look forward to 2015, when the Yankees will write checks for more than $65 million to a 35-year-old first baseman, a 35-year-old "ace," and a 40-year-old third baseman (okay, he'll probably DH then, but still).

Nobody loves a good snarkfest more than me. But I have to say, I am getting a bit sick of all the whining about the Sox not having scored a new trophy wife, I mean, player, in the off-season.

I do wonder how much the Sox got played in this negotiation. I wonder how much the availability of Tex as a FA this off season factored into their decisions regarding Manny last Spring and then mid-Summer. I question the wisdom of not concealing how much you covet or need a particular player . I think that is just a dumb ass negotiating strategy- period. I am delighted that they did not offer him anything just to get the deal done, because, we've seen how well that works out in the long term - for the Red Sox and for the Yankees. Maybe the Yankees just have a slower learning curve and hopefully it will be to our advantage. Notwithstanding, that advantage may not be evident during the coming season.

I don't think that "win at any cost" strategy (Yankees) is the same as having a "winning strategy". (Red Sox). I am proud that our 2 recent WS rings and the 2008 season are evidence of a club culture that believes in itself, believes in the power of the team as a whole, and finds ways to win when any simple analysis of facts or stats would discourage hope of being competitive.

Fuck New York of it thinks it is better than Boston. Fuck the Yankeees if they think they are better than Boston. The effort, and the money spent to prove the point, tells the tale. Me think thou dost protest too much, Big Apple. And Fuck "Tesh" (oh, if only his name were John), who, IMO, never intended to sign with the Sox and used them just to boost his payday from the Yankees.

3rd place in 2009? Bring it on.

Ahh those same people were probably crying the world was ending when the Yanks signed Arod. Tex is a tool. He knew he wanted to go to NY TWO WEEKS before Christmas. I would love to hear why he felt the need to waste our FO's time and money when he had already made a decision.

I'm glad we didn't sign him. He's a dick. And he wanted way too much money and way too many years.

And Nick Green seems like he would be a decent back-up. I wouldn't want him taking over full-time if anyone went down, but I wouldn't mind seeing him play a bit. Welcome to Boston Nick!

I had seriously never heard of Nick Green until today. I guess he seems...okay. Not really the big bat everyone has been hoping for.

A smorgasbord of snarky comments--too funny.

"Who needs Teixeira when you can have Nick Green?" haaahaahaaa

I just saw Teixeira's presser with the Yankees--lovely. He wanted to go to the Yanks, there wasn't anything Henry & Co. could've done to get him (imho). BTW, the MLB Network is great so far. Get a baseball fix in January!
