Rainout

Everyone who took off work today, got up this morning and got fully dressed for the game and headed out the door to tailgate/pregame at 10 am — only to hear the cab driver tell you the game had been postponed: raise your hands!

I suppose it’s better to get the news now, when I could quickly change clothes and head into the office — than to get 30 minutes into the game, and then have it rainout. We’ll just have to live without Red Sox baseball for one more day…

Opening Day should be an official holiday in New England

Yeah, when I trudged into work at 10:30, my coworkers knew better than to talk to me. I’m now drowning my sorrows in coffee & Cadbury mini-eggs when all I really wanted was a Frank.

Rain can officially SUCK IT! When baseball was months away or even weeks ago…fine, but it was today. Baseball was officially on its way TODAY, but rain had to come in and (pun intended) rain on everyone’s parade.

The only slight silver lining…is that I would have had to sneak outta work today to see the game because not seeing opening day was NOT an option. And with the game for tomorrow at 4:05pm…I can be there without having to umm..figure things out, so to speak.

    Aurghhh! I want baseball! *TANTRUM*

    This blows.

But I was happy to see the Sox call it early, rather than let everyone come into Fenway, but three beers and then call it.

Also… I’d rather have a sunny Tue. Opener than a cold, wet Opener.

I’ve waited all winter, I can wait one more day. Go Sox!

The lights are on at Fenway. It’s tugging at my heart. I WANT TO GO TO THERE.

@Texy: “I WANT TO GO TO THERE”

LOL. Now that made me laugh out loud…my office already thinks I am crazy enough as it is.

Love Tina Fey…love her! In my imaginary world, I think we’d be great friends. lol Did you see her say in an interview that she got that line in the show from her daughter. She had a picture of Disney World up on her computer…and her daughter comes over and says, “I want to go to there.” Tina said she wrote it down because she knew it was comic gold…from the mouths of babes.

Working just a few blocks from Fenway when Opening Day has been rained out makes for a pretty morose day, let me tell you. HOWEVER, I’m desperately trying to find the silver lining that is being able to leave work a few minutes early and run to Sunset Cantina to catch most of the game.

    Still bites, though.

This really sucks! But at least it’s not snow which would take a lot longer to go away. Does anyone know if it will be on national TV? I know it was supposed to be on ESPN2 today…

I’m sorry to hear about the “spring in New England” weather issues. The one silver lining, for me, personally, is that a 4:05 start tomorrow means that if I take a short lunch I can dash home in time to catch the latter part of the game, and that makes me happy.

This is disappointing. At least I’m in town through Friday, though.

@Texy: Heck, not just New England…Opening Day for our national pastime should be a national holiday!

I was in history class when I found out about the game. One kid who was going punched his desk. I was so mad. I was so excited to go. For our fun we got to run in the cold rain.

Two of my Yankee fan teachers were laughing at me as I was stuck in class in my Pedroia shirt knowing that I wasn’t going to get to watch a game today and they did. I hate them.

The Red Sox did the right thing: call the game in the morning rather than have everyone waste a work day at Fenway, then reschedule late-ish enough that people have a shot at going/watching without missing much of work and/or the game.

I’m really lucky, this had total silver lining for me, I went in to work for a meeting on what was supposed to be a vacation day and just stayed when the game was called, taking tomorrow instead.

I’m with fc–this way, I can actually watch the game in full and as it happens. (Added bonus: skipping softball practice!)

Hey everyone, been awhile since I have posted. I won’t be here for the game tomorrow, have to work. I am a temp and if I call out I am fired. And since over 20 temps have been let go in the last wk, I’m not doing anything to jeopardize that. I know my days are numbered which is scary in this economy so I’m going to work all I can. So everyone enjoy the game, I will watch the tape when I get home.

Awwww- that stinks. I was looking forward to it. I got my opening day fix at the Ballpark in Arlington today, but I think that stinks for everyone in Boston. There is just something so fun about opening day. See ya’ll tomorrow.

@Karen: Sorry to hear that things aren’t going so well. I hope things will get better for you soon.

@ecl1958: Exactly! RS fans in other parts of the country shouldn’t have to miss out on Opening Day! Although the late start helps a bit–but not as much as a 7:10 start would have!
