Red Sox Dance Across Australia

The Red Sox have certainly had their own adventures (misadventures?) with dancing – remember this? But the latest dancing Red Sox took Australia by storm on the TV show So You Think You Can Dance (Australia)… and even better, they’re actually GOOD AT DANCING.

aussie

The top 4 male dancer finalists on the show performed a Broadway routine back on March 29th that brought the awesomeness of Boston to the shores of Sydney. Although it was in the style of “Damn Yankees”, the Aussies were smart enough not to put their guys in lame pinstripes (or the unis of the Washington Senators) — and chose instead to have them wear the home whites of the Boston Red Sox.

I always knew Australia had excellent taste.

Who knew someone could combine the Olde Towne Team and Bob Fosse?

Although I wonder if someone should tell them baseball players don’t wear biking gloves? At least they got the high socks right.

Those guys have terrible batting stances.

My favorite part is when the lights go low and they become sultry baseball dancers.

That’s the Fosse. Ain’t it grand?

(I think Bob Fosse would probably roll over in his grave if he saw a bunch of Aussies wearing American baseball unis and doing his moves.)

The biking gloves cracked me up. They got their hands on full Sox unis, but they didn’t get full fingered gloves?

Wonder if the biking gloves are a practical consideration? They may not be used to trying to do spin moves and so on in gloved hands, and so they went for an in-between approach and use biking gloves.

That said—I’m trying to picture Drew, Bay, Youk, and Lowell doing this routine and it’s KILLING me.

@lone1c: Not sure Mikey would be able to do it, what with his hip and all. Not that I think any of the others would fair too well, either… Awesome routine, though!

@Twinkie: If Lowell’s hip is the biggest obstacle here, then he better go on Dancing with the Stars after he retires!

@Twinkie: I dunno, I think Bay could pull it off.

@Crane: Bay would certainly be better than Youk, at least.

Gotta admit, kinda loving the tightness of those uniforms.

I now have this image in my head of Pedroia doing jazz hands.

@Clarity: The only thing jazz hands are good for is mockery.

    @Clarity: I’m convinced they’re wearing either child-sized or women’s cut jerseys.

Off-topic, but this Indians-Yankees game is wonderful!

@Texy: Probably. Or they shrunk them somehow. Either way – I dig ‘em.

@Twinkie: It is, isn’t it? My eyes bugged out at the score, and then my jaw dropped when I saw it was just the top of the 4th inning. I proceeded to laugh myself silly. Poor wittle Wang. He (and his name) is going to get the newspaper headline treatment all over the country tomorrow. It’s going to be ugly…and fantastic.

Ya know, I’ve heard many people comparing the new stadium to an amusement park. I rolled my eyes, but now I’m inclined to agree. It’s only been 3 games, but I’ve gotten plenty of amusement from it.

Those are the gayest baseball uniforms I’ve ever seen, and I mean that in the best possible way.

Given Wang’s ERA, the Yanks should consider adding Swisher to the rotation.

Oh god lord…that’s hilarious and scary all at the same time. What is probably true is that it probably wouldn’t take a lot to get a good # of the crazy Sox to give it a go.

And the Yanks are now losing 20-2. Gotta say…it’s enjoyable. I said over at twitter…the pitching for the Yanks has made our starting pitching look like rock stars. To say our starting pitching has not been stellar would be an understatement…but what the Yanks have going on is ridiculous. And, at least our bullpen is getting it done sans one Mr. Javi Lopez.

the worst thing about it is that the song is from the musical CHICAGO. so they were probably supposed to be wearing white sox uniforms and someone just royally screwed up.

    Australia ftw.

I’ll have to watch this at work because it’s not streaming well, but what I saw was *epic*.

Gotta love that Yanks/Tribe game. 14 runs in one inning!?!?!
