Did you see Wake with his arm around Ortiz in the dugout afterward? This is why I love the Red Sox.

Oh my god, I am so happy right now.

I love watching the celebrations of things like this: it never fails to bring a tear to my eye.

I loved Tito’s hug and bum slap. Awesomeness.

I love the fake cold shoulder in the dugout followed by the mobbing! But mostly, I just love seeing that double-point-at-the-sky again.

A Tito bum slap is the best! (I want his job!)

WOO HOO. That was awesome, so you know, writers can stop throwing rumours around like Nick Johnson for Buccholz.

I put this in the end of the game thread, but I’ll reput it here. I rewatched the homer…a few times. I was clapping like a freakin’ penguin.

When it first happened, I got so excited, I stopped paying attention to the aftermath. Upon rewatching…love the adorable hugs from Pedey and Youk. And yeah…that dugout. First nothing…then Rocco (I think) just shoving him into everyone on the team and them piling on. Then Tito with the hug and the butt slap. Ah….all teams SAY they are a team…but we SO ARE a team.

I couldn’t be happier for Papi, happier for the Sox, happier for me…so I can stop telling people that Papi WILL get a homer. Papi did…and then he followed it by a double.

Guess who’s back??? Back again?? Papi!

Just got home. That was the best!
I can’t stop cheering for PAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Bet it was all the fan love that did it. The whole fifth inning was awesome.

Dude!!! I was at the game…it was amazing. Everyone just yelled their hearts out for Papi, and that was Before the home run. Even when he grounded out his first at bat, the fans were so encouraging. And they should be. after what he’s done for this team, he has totally earned it. Boston LOVES Papi, now and forever.

    Amazing game.

Also TWO home runs for Varitek, and an Intentional Walk! Awesome.

Damn, I guess I missed the wrong game but duty called! I checked the score and saw the jump from 2-0 to 8-0 and looked to see who the homers were from. PAPI!!! I wanted to shout out in the middle of my meeting but I didn’t think anyone would appreciate it to the same level that I would. :)

    Need to watch it now!

I STILL can’t stop grinning. Just a great Fenway moment, and I hope the start of better days for Papi.

The group glomping in the dugout was priceless.

I was watching the game archived through MLB.TV, and when it happened I still stood up so hard it floored my chair, and just let out a howl. I cheered a second time when he came out of the dugout for the fans. And when him and Wake were chatting afterward arm-in-arm, a tear or twelve certainly came to my eye.

@shelley1005: Reviewing the tape, it appears to have been the Elf who pushed Papi into the throng of his teammates.

But it shouldn’t be a surprise—those two are the unlikeliest of neighbors in any lineup ever. (And Papi is clearly the future president of the Dustin Pedroia fan club, and probably vice versa.)

@LoveSox15: That quiet moment with Ortiz and Wake was a heartwarming sight, and might have been the best part of the whole thing.

    double-point-at-the-sky

    best thing ever
