Sox Bits

Random bits of Sox-related news and tidbits, all jumbled together.

Surprising just about no one, Kevin Youkilis is headed to the 15-day DL — courtesy of a strained oblique. I know certain Youk fans (not naming any names) dreaded hearing the o-word… and we can all thank A.J. Burnett for pegging Youk with a pitch. Gil Velazquez got the callup to replace him.
The Red Sox have allowed more stolen bases (43) so far this season than any other team in baseball. Second on the list are the Yankees, with 34 SB. This probably has something to do with Varitek’s lackluster arm behind the plate. Oh, and having to face Carl Crawford ten times already.
Everyone who thought Mike Scioscia was objecting during the game last night when the home plate ump issued bench warnings (following a wild behind-the-back pitch by Justin Masterson) because he thought that was going too far… hold up a moment. Scioscia wanted Masterson tossed. Seriously. JUSTIN MASTERSON. I’m sure we’d all benefit from some baseball courtesy lessons from a manager who hollers at another team’s players on the field. In related news, Scioscia has now ascended to the Top 5 Most Hated People in Baseball list!
Child porn suspect not allowed to attend Red Sox games – hooray!
Meet your bench middle infielder: Rocco Baldelli. When Dustin Pedroia went down for the count on Sunday night, Francona and Mills were pondering who could step in off the bench – and Rico Baldy volunteered to take one for the team, as it were. He then asked DeMarlo Hale how to turn a double play. One hopes Julio Lugo was listening to that explanation.
Finally: Brad Penny and Chuck Liddell – karaoke buddies. This is not a joke.

He wanted Justin Masterson tossed? Justin Masterson? Justin “sweetest, nicest, most adorable guy in the world” Masterson? What the fuck is Scioscia’s problem?

I like the “Mike Scoscia” face. Where he stands in the dugout and looks confused/angry.

Some freak is arrested for child porn and has the nerve to ask to go to Sox games? What a asshat.

@Adam: I think that’s the only emotion Mike Scioscia can express: SOUR.

@jules: I only know who he is because I have a bit of a crush on him. I used to watch UFC fights all the time.

Haha, I like how Rocco’s first thought was, “I gotta find a cup.”

And I’m still upset at Scioscia for even thinking that Justin could ever intentionally try to hurt someone. =(

Mike Scoscia is the biggest @#$%in’ whine-bag in baseball. And that Penny/Iceman clip was fantastic.

    @Texy: I’ve never seen it.

So, would it be totally mean to ditch the kidlet to see the Big Unit take on Santana?

I find it interesting that Angels fans claim that other teams whine too much. I can’t remember the last time I saw an Angels game where Scioscia wasn’t out there whining about one thing or another.

Anyway, I’ll be at the games tonight and tomorrow! Excited to see Wake pitch again.

Scioscia is an ass. Simple as that. He said that he knew Masty didn’t throw intentionally, but since there was history and the teams were warned before the game…if you don’t have command then you shouldn’t be afforded the privilege to stay. Absolutely ridiculous, ya big baby. And…given how STELLAR our bullpen is and how shaky Masty was last night, you’d think he want him to stay on the mound as long as possible.

The interview with Masty on Nesn was absolutely freakin’ adorable. One…and I know I harp on this, but I hope Brad Penny was watching. Masty knew he was not good…and openly admitted it. Maybe he learned that from Lester and Beckett. Denial does no one any good. I had to laugh when they asked him how he pitched and he said, “a ball here, a ball there…a strike EVERY ONCE in a while.” He stated that everything just felt wrong until he was about 90 pitches in and laughed.

All in all though…..Masterson being that off and still keeping the game within striking distance, that is something for him to be proud of. And when they asked him if he was upset at all that the win came after he was out of the game. He just laughed and said “No…a win is a win.”

I keep thinking it is physically impossible for me to like Justin Masterson anymore than I already do….and then he proves me wrong with every little thing that comes out of his mouth.

P.S. Someone else I just keep liking more is our own Rico Baldy. What a way to take one for the team. He knew that it would probably not be fantastic with him at short, but he’s A TEAM PLAYER. Gotta love that guy. And yeah…hope Lugo was paying attention when he got the answer on how to turn a double play since he obviously has no freakin’ idea either.

And toss Masterson? Did he want the ump to kick a puppy too?

Scioscia is an [Tarzan]ing idiot. Honestly, wanting Masterson tossed is as recockulous as wanting Wakefield tossed because they hit a batter. Sounds like Scioscia is just looking for a fight. Dude, we get it, you’re pissed off still about the Abreu situation, but don’t just go looking for a fight and overreact. I’d understand if maybe it was Beckett, Lester, or Penny(and even him I’m questioning because he kinda sucks at time too) but Masterson and Wakefield are the two that you shouldn’t ever question. Seriously, what the [Tarzan]

I’m another Youk fan kicking up a shit.. I rely on his at-bat dance to get me through the day.

Also, that Baldelli article was kind of endearing.. aw.

@Texy: Chuck Lidell and crush .. I’m speechless.

Justin Masterson and his ears to be tossed, are you freaking kidding me ? Masty is like the last person who would intentionally hit someone.

@bally: I don’t know that it gets me through the day, but Youk’s pigeon-toed, hip swiveling, pee-pee dance batting stance is my daily ‘Tee-hee!’ moment.

As I read through Scioscia’s comments this morning, my brow became more and more furrowed in complete confusion. Seriously…the hell you say, Scioscia? I wanted to beat his ass in Sweet Masty’s defense.
