Throw Strikes With Josh Beckett

Time for a charitable event break: you can go bowling with Josh Beckett (and a whole host of other random celebrities) tomorrow night, and help out sick little kids at the same time. Josh has picked up the banner previously carried by Nomar with the Nomar Bowl, and has turned it into the first ever Beckett Bowl, which will benefit the Josh Beckett Foundation for the children's hospital in Boston.

For a mere $10,000 donation, you can get your group of friends a lane at the event. Easy enough! And if that price tag is too steep, there's always the afterparty at Rain- which can be yours for the low-low price of $50 a person. Adrian Grenier's band the Honey Brothers will be playing at the afterparty- surely getting to witness that is worth the price of admission alone, right? Or, if partying at a bowling alley isn't your thing, you can always donate directly to Josh's foundation.

As Red Sox Monster noted back in July, Josh really loves him some celebrity bowling tournaments. I'm guessing this is because the Sox front office already turned down his request for a celebrity hunting tourney. ("Josh, just like we told Wakefield and Timlin, you can't kill animals for charity. Sorry.")

Josh talked with Hazel Mae about the even back in August- here's video of that:

I will be at the after party. Bowling was a little steep for me. But the party sounded good. It's great that he's taken this over. It was a lot of fun when Nomar had it. I'm expecting nothing short of a great time.

As much as I would LOVE to bowl with Beckett, I don't have that cash. I wish he would have done what Tek did with his mini-golf charity gig and sell spectator tickets (they were like $24 to watch). Good on him for doing something nice for kids. I think bowling is a little ... tame ... for his personality. Shouldn't it be something like full-body laser tag?

Huck- you know we all expect a full report back from our roving reporter. We're depending on you.

Jai- I agree. The only possible reason that I can think of why he wouldn't is that there just isn't as much elbow room in the bowling alley as there would be around a mini-golf course. Because I can tell you that a ton more people would gladly pay $25 just to sit at the back of the alley and watch.

I will give you guys a full recap of how the evening went.

I think your right about the limited space. I went to Tek's golf tourney and it was great (REALLY HOT though) but we were, for the most part, behind glass. We were lucky to get a small portion where the glass was gone. If not for that, we would have had no pictures. I don't think keeping all the fans at bay would be as easy at the bowling alley as it was at the hockey rink where Tek held his.

I agree with both of you that there is probably a rational reason for not having a peanut gallery. Though, I did just read that there are a handful of VIP passes available to the public for $250. Hmm ...
Can't wait to hear about your evening Huck. If you can manage it, give Joshie a big wet kiss from me!
