One Month Ago: Starting Lineup

Ok, so it was a little more than a month ago, but it's still a fun watch: the announcement of the Red Sox starting lineup at Fenway Park for Game 1 of the World Series.

Manager: Terry Francona

2B - Dustin Pedroia
1B - Kevin Youkilis
DH - David Ortiz
LF - Manny Ramirez
3B - Mike Lowell
C - Jason Varitek
RF - J.D. Drew
SS - Julio Lugo
CF - Jacoby Ellsbury

SP - Josh Beckett

I love how Tito wallops Dustin on the head, and the rest of the players get pats on the shoulder. Big Papi makes sure to acknowledge his adoring public to the left and right. Mike Lowell points to one of the Sox players as he runs out - I wish I knew who. Lugo really, REALLY gets into those high-fives... be careful dude, you might injure someone. And I'm pretty positive that the two guys on the team who most would NOT want to trot out for player introductions were conveniently busy warming up in the bullpen.

*looks at footage* Well Lowell was pointing to someone from the bench/coaches/whatevertheheck. I wish I knew too. Maybe to Royce? Cora? Magadan? Tavarez? The world may never know.

I love the strange father/son feel to Tito and Pedroia...actually it's more uncle/nephew

It's a mystery lost forever to history. I'll pretend he was pointing to me - although I was back around behind him and up. But whatever.

Uncle/nephew is it- you've pegged it. Because they give each other way too much hell for it to be father/son.

I always thought of Tito as everybody's favorite pot smoking uncle. My friend and I jokingly call him Uncle Tito all the time. Though the pot smoking part is just me being silly, I don't know if he does it for sure but working in a place like Boston, I wouldn't blame him for one second if he did.

Notice how young Mr Ellsbury gets a cheer so loud you might have thought it was Big Papi they were introducing.

We can't trade him, he's already a star!

yeah i definatley see tito as the pot smoking uncle...heck if i had to deal w/ all of that i would need to....here's to tito smoking a big papi fatty...i remember a few years ago i read an article that said the highest percentage of pot smokers were in boston...and i thought its because of watching generations of sox fans killing there livers drinking through a season...had to move to something a little less harmful lol

In other videos too I've noticed a big paternal thing with Tito--he always puts his hands on the player's shoulders and neck when talking to them. It's very cute. I like it.

As far as Ellsbury--I liked how the cheer seemed a to have a much more, oh, female pitch than some of the others? Of course who couldn't fall for that pretty face.

Does anyone know how Tito got that nickname, by the way? Whenever I see it, all I can think of are Yugoslavian dictators.
