State of Influence

They may be the Boston Red Sox, but Red Sox Nation spreads from coast to coast (and beyond). I put together this little survey of the Sox that gives a snapshot look at just what level of representation each of the 50 states has on the ballclub- including where the ballparks and farm teams are located, as well as well the players, coaches and GM were born, went to college and reside currently. This is nothing serious or scientific- just a look to see what states can claim bragging rights.

Based on this snapshot, the Red Sox are mostly influenced by the states of: Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, Arizona and California.

Ah...Fenway. I'm so glad that it's in MA. I'd miss it if it weren't here. =D

What about the Large Father? I think he lives in MA, but I heard he spends some of the offseason in Wisconsin where his wife is from.

Ah, thank you for doing this! I started on a list a while ago, but got bored with it when California and Texas and Florida were taking up 5325025 spots on the list. No one from my home state.. but at least I was born in MA so I can claim a lot of other stuff.

Y'know, I didn't realize Snyder went to college in NC. I am somehow going to use this when I next visit my relatives there. I miss going on about Trot Nixon.

Now can you add up the number of Sox who hunt?

Good call, Meg! Papi still uses Weston, MA as his place of residence, I believe- so I added him to Mass. Wisconsin gets a shout-out, though.

Jess: We know Timlin, Wakefield, Beckett & Papelbon. I wouldn't be surprised to learn Snyder hunts. I also wouldn't be surprised to learn Tavarez "hunts" squirrels.

Oh God, I'm seriously waiting for someone to show up with a Blair Witch-style home movie about terrifying things Tavarez has done to them. And on a semi-related note, it's really fun to tell people about his porn star thing and see if they believe you or not.

$10 says Lester and Buchholz are added to that list by spring training.

We know from Beckett's text message that he was up bright and early this morning hunting.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn Clay was a hunter as well. And Josh'll get Jon Lester going right quick. If they're living on his ranch, both of those guys are going to be hard-pressed to walk away from the experience without having a mounted trophy or two.

YOU LEFT OUT WEST VIRGINIA!

[ Texas Gal ] says:

THAT'S BECAUSE WEST VIRGINIA IS NOT REPRESENTED ON THE SOX.

Your state needs to step up and start producing some ballplayers.

Has there ever really been any Rhode Islanders who played for teh Red Sox? I dunno if so. Though Lou Gorman was the GM and he's from the area...still. Not a player.

I agree, RI needs some more love. Paw Sox are great, but I need player I can easily "run into."

Tek lives in Newton, MA!

I think he has a house there, but still lists his official "residence" with the league in Georgia. Same with Papi and his house in Wisconsin, but lists his official residence in MA.
