They've only announced one of the This Year In Baseball Awards so far, and already it's clear that the public knows a good pitcher when they see it. Congratulations to Josh Beckett- the 2007 Starting Pitcher of the Year. Out of a field of 10 candidates, Josh snagged an overwhelming 35.5% of the vote- the next closest was Jake Peavy, at 19.4%. Yankees fans managed to somehow get Wang up to 3rd, over C.C. Sabathia at 4th.

When reached for comment, Josh said, "[insert reference to executing pitches here]" and "[insert reference to owing it all to his teammates here]" and "[insert random cussword here]".

I noticed another saying of his that cracks me up almost as much as "executing pitches"--- "manufacturing runs".
I love how they all have their vocabularies. Paps uses the word "situation" in every sentence. Jacoby tends to say "definitely" and "you know" a lot. Collectively they seem to share phrases too... just things I've noticed.
I take it as a good thing--I like them not being overly groomed for the press. It's personality.
PS--something I've been dying to ask, if off topic--in two Friendly's Scoops, the one with Millar and the one with Youk--they use a term to mean an ugly person that I have never heard before. Mollients? Something like that. Anyone have any idea what he's saying?
TG--don't mean to take the spotlight off Josh with that PS, just curious. Congrats to our man Beckett.
