Awards, Awards & More Awards

Jacoby Ellsbury is among the finalists for the Harry Glickman professional athlete of the year award at the Oregon Sports Awards, to be given out next Sunday the 27th. The other finalists include Oregon athletes Derek Anderson (Cleveland Browns), Randy Couture (Ultimate Fighting), T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Cincinnati Bengals) and Brandon Roy (Portland Trail Blazers). The ceremony, to be held at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike campus in Beaverton, OR, will also be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet Northwest on Sunday night.

And in other awards news, Josh Beckett was on hand in Houston this past Saturday to give away the Josh Beckett Awards at the RBI Foundation dinner. For the second year, Josh handed over the awards in his name to the best high school baseball and softball players from the Houston area. Sorry, Josh - you're still a Houstonian no matter how much you try to deny it. No pictures from the dinner this year, but here's a shot of Josh from last year's dinner.

I think he pulled out the formal hemp necklaces for that dinner outfit.

I covet that dress- she looks stunning. And I'm impressed with his tie selection - who knew? Josh the budding fashionista!

they look adorable together

Ten bucks says Whitney picked out his outfit.

If so, she's a keeper. Getting a man to wear a pink paisley print tie is no easy feat.

[ Liza ] says:

Regardless of whether she convinced him to wear pink paisley or not, I think I wore the same dress but lighter blue and with straps to my eighth grade dance...

Anyway, they do look cute together.

Awww, they are cute! He's not wearing his necklaces either (or at least they aren't visible)...I'd bet Whitney was behind that too:-P

[ Texas Gal ] says:

Oh, you better believe those necklaces are still on his neck - even if they're not visible. I'd be surprised if they ever came off.

(meekly raising her hand)

Can I just say? I saw that tie and gagged. Paisley + pinstriped suit? No thanks. Choose one pattern.

Of course, we know how the sox feel about pink ties--anyone else recall that miked convo between Pedroia and Papelbon from the WS movie? Paps bragging about his pimpin suit, and Pedro shooting back with his awesome pink tie. Dunno, this made me think of that.

As for her dress, love the bold color, but the cut concerns me. I think I'd have to see her standing up, see how it falls from the waist.

I'm such a snot fashion-wise, sorry about this.

I actually LOVE the outfit of the man in the background.

Goodness - there's a miracle. Not only does she get him to dress nicely, she actually got him to clean up as well. I almost didn't recognize his baby-face!
Frankly, I could do without the tie, but if that's the worst, I'll take it. Yummy, yummy, yummy ...

Different strokes, as they say - I adore her dress and the tie -- and I think that all black combo is very Jersey-esque, circa 1998.
Maybe I need to do Go Fug Yourself-type posts for the Sox. Everyone can chime in on their fashion choices.

Also, YES, Jai - I can't believe I didn't even notice... the chin hair is gone! He's all shaven and shorn. And smiley. And in a pink tie.

I just think the suit in the background is cut very nicely. Well-fitted suits are all too rare. But black shirt with black suit, I'll agree, is pretty atrocious. Yeah, I'll amend my previous statement--like the suit, not the outfit.

Basically--if her dress is cut at or above the knee, I'll go with a solid "I like it"--if its below that... eh. She is super cute though. Looks very happy.

I think his smile is throwing me off. It's sort of disconcerting. Not even a mischievous grin, either... it's a real smile!

I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT!

She needs a necklace. That's what's bugging me about her outfit.

If she was wearing the right necklace (note: not made of hemp), I'd go with stunning and elegant to describe the look.

I'm so not a double-breasted suit fan - although I am a fan of the black dress shirt. Not enough men rock that look (though it's not as chic when paired with a black suit).

They just look so gosh-darned happy and smiley and cute.

How long have they been an item?

Wondering how much of this clean-cut smileyness may be the result of a certain influence...

From experience, when men spend as much time together as these guys do, sometimes bad habits get... contagious. And persistent. It does strike me how nice they all look when they get to spring training.

(Oh my god, it IS a double-breasted suit! Ew. I concede. What was I thinking? Damn bad lighting. But I still give a thumbs-down to the tie. It isn't the pink... its the paisley that gets to me.)

the only alarming thing about their outfits is the elastic on the girl's wrist...

and didn't Josh wear that same exact suit last year??? see pic above

[ Mandalay ] says:

Margaret--they've been together since last April, I believe. And while I like the color of her dress I LOATHE empire waists. They make the wearer look like they're nine months pregnant no matter how skinny they are.

What's wrong with being a fashion snot.....GUILTY!! Not too sure about the tie but nothing beats a white shirt. The suit could be a darker color. The dress color is good, the style is not so good. She definitely needed a necklace and I'm a stickler for tasteful evening hair if you've got the length to pull it off...or up as the case may be. Yes, lose the teenage bracelet..oh, and the makeup is too harsh. Of course she could redeem herself with the right pair of kick-ass shoes. Now...any pictures of Jacoby and Kelsey???

I just realized in the head shot, with the tie removed, what lies beneath.....the NECKLACES!
eww eww eww

[ Texas Gal ] says:

Yep - I definitely love it. In fact, I might get one for myself. That would be a great little party cocktail dress.

How in the world did you find that?

skills...and it screamed cache

Well, round of applause for the detective work!

Now if I can just get you to pick a screenname to post under, so I can tell you apart from the other anonymous folks. It feels weird to respond to no one- and I need to know who to go to with my fashion identifying emergencies. :) Doesn't have to be your real name.... you can even post as Cache. Which would be kind of awesome.

Well, the upright picture looks so much better than the version sitting in Josh's lap. OMG - not a bubble hem - say it ain't so! You have to have minus one inch hips to wear a bubble hem so as not to force your date to carry the WIDE LOAD sign next to you. Notice the recommended jewelry accessories HINT HINT...I still love the color though.

[ cache ] says:

i have a size 25/26 waist so i think the bubble waist would work out fine for me

+100 for using cache as your username. Hee!

[ cache ] says:

the reason that the dress looks better is because the model is a rail

haha...i'm too lazy to type a name most of the time
