The game is actually scheduled to be on WEEI, not WRKO.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:43 AM

I'm trying not to panic, but... NESN IS NOT WORKING ON MY SATELLITE TV!!!!!! I'm getting every single channel just fine right up until the two channels before NESN, and then... nothing.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:43 AM

This opening ceremony is pretty cool.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:44 AM

Boo on MLB.com - they're listing it as being on WRKO.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:44 AM

Its SUPPOSED to be on ESPN2, but its not!

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:45 AM

Every game that takes place in the morning or afternoon for the Red Sox is always broadcast on WEEI. Also Wednesday night games are also broadcast on WEEI.

Don't worry if you're NESN doesn't work since the game is on ESPN2.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:45 AM

This is the weirdest opening day ceremony I've ever seen. It started out stereotypically Japanese, but now they're playing American music and there're some dancers and I have no idea what's going on.

Haha--the A's are all taking videos on their digital cameras. The Sox are just looking confused.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:46 AM

ESPN2 coverage doesn't start until 6 AM ET

[ fc ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:47 AM

Yeah, they had Sunday's game listed as WRKO too, but it was on WEEI.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:47 AM

Even my no rhythm self could do that dance. Dunkin Donuts anyone?

I've been up since 3:15 waiting for the pregame show to start.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:47 AM

Guess what else doesn't work on my satellite TV? ESPN2.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:48 AM

I cant get MLB.tv to launch. I'd LIKE to see this pregame stuff...

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:49 AM

Aw, TG... does MLB.TV work?

I'm mad--I'll have to leave around 7 to go to school. So can't this game hurry up and, you know, start?

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:50 AM

They won't launch until close to game time. I am sure they will have video up on MLB.com later of it. I am going to upload it to my site in a while once it's done here.

[ fc ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:50 AM

Just saw Sean stretching his neck around.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:51 AM

Any luck TG?

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:53 AM

Look! Coaches-love!

Hahaha--"CLAY buk-OLTS."

[ fc ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:54 AM

What a great YOOOOOOUUUUUUK from the crowd

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:54 AM

And apparently we have "Jacob-ee" in center today...

Wow... the cheer when they introduced Matsuzaka was LOUD.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:55 AM

I hate you all :-) *punches ESPN2* START!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:55 AM

Okay I just woke up and all but did they just call JD Drew "Brandon Moss"?

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:56 AM

yes Piney you heard that correctly. I did a double take too

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:57 AM

Piney, I was wondering that... they called Brandon Moss twice, I think. They named him with the backups and with the starters.

And look how sweet Huston Street is--he patted a kid in a blue and gray uniform on the back. I'm not sure what a kid in a uniform like that is doing on the field, but I sure am jealous...

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:57 AM

DAMN YOU ESPN!!!

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 4:59 AM

I DONT CARE about James Shields. Or Ankiel. SHOW ME THE GAME

[ Piney61 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:00 AM

err did I just see Moss with the starting lineup?! I'm so confused! And now I have to go out and get some soda and what not for the game...grrr

[ Jennifer ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:00 AM

Momentary crisis averted: I didn't have ESPN2, and then noticed that I DO have NESN. -cough-

And good - I'm not the only one who thought I heard Brandon's name twice. =D

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:00 AM

If you've got ESPN2, it's on right now. It's working here in rural PA...

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:01 AM

Courtesy of the Clubhouse Insider:

"J.D. Drew is a scratch because of lower back tightness. Details to follow."

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:02 AM

Wow. Crazy dancers. ESPN is finally showign coverage.

Oh God, Steve Phillips is talking. Kill me.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:02 AM

I just called my local Red Sox bar here in Chicago, and they have the same problem.

NESN: doesn't show up
ESPN2: doesn't show up
MLB.TV: I'm blocked out

SERIOUSLY. I'M GOING TO MURDER SOMEONE AT DIRECTV.

[ fc ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:03 AM

No JD? No no no.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:05 AM

Oh, man, TG. We can give you play-by-plays for the time being...

I'm refreshing Clubhouse Insider every minute... I NEED to know what's up with JD...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:05 AM

I'm actually live-blogging the game, too, so I'll try to give good updates.

Keeping my fingers crossed for J.D. - ESPN hasn't said a thing!

[ Jennifer ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:06 AM

Gooooo figure. JD starts smacking homers, and then he gets a tight back. >.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:08 AM

I'm betting its only a precautionary thing. Phillips thinks it could be serious, so it'd probably minor. He is, after all, an idiot

[ Tuffy ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:09 AM

I'll turn my TV south for you, Texas Gal.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:10 AM

JOE BLANTON IS ON THE MOUND

EEEEEEEEEEEE

First pitch of '08: strike 1.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:11 AM

And a single for Pedroia! On just the second pitch...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:11 AM

Yay, Dustin! Attaboy!

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:11 AM

THATS how you start it, Dustin!

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:12 AM

YOuk grounds out.. and is lucky it wasnt a double play (dropped ball lets Dustin make it to second)

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:14 AM

Wow. HUGE pop-up from Ortiz.

[ Anonymous ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:15 AM

...and Manny goes long to right field (again) for a foul, but this time, it got caught.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:15 AM

Dear gods, what a shitty half inning.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:16 AM

Travis Buck! He's a teammate of Dustin's from ASU.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:16 AM

Whoops, that anonymous was me. ^_^

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:17 AM

Wow, the reception for Daisuke...remarkable.

HA! Both of the Arizona State kids are leading off! (...is such a loser for noticing that)

[ fc ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:17 AM

Both sides. A's didn't particularly distinguish themselves in their fielding.

[ fc ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:18 AM

But props to pedey, our little dancing Daddy got a base hit.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:18 AM

Aw... Dice-K... yay, quick Pedroia-Youk grounder. Keep that pitch count down, hun.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:19 AM

...not fun.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:20 AM

Aw, crap. 1-0... on the third pitch of the game, a homer to left-center...

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:20 AM

FRAK!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:20 AM

Okay Dice, shake it off shake it off....don't pull that ish again, okay?

[ DIonysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:21 AM

Dice-K shaken. This is gonna go AWFUL

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:22 AM

Now he's throwing erratically! C'mon, Daisuke, settle down...He just walked Barton.

[ fc ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:22 AM

Hey, NO PANICKING.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:22 AM

And now he gives up a walk.

C'mon, let's be positive now... double-play scenario?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:23 AM

Cust is from Flemington! (spazzes) My home state of NJ!

He's the enemy. I shouldn't be all happy and stuff. (stops)

[ Red Sox Monster ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:23 AM

Don't worry, Meliss, I'm with you now, too. And a bloody Mary sounds oddly refreshing right now.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:23 AM

I'm gonna vomit.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:25 AM

Eeeeeeeeeeek.

HBP... on the batter's back ankle.

CALM DOWN DAISUKE. You know, strike zone...

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:25 AM

Ladies and Gentlemen, welome to a nightmare

[ Piney61 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:26 AM

Yeah he's definitely very shaken up right now. Though honestly, I'm just gonna say, if they lose today I'll be okay with it. I dunno why but I dont' mind Opening Day losses too much. As long as they win tomorrow and win the home opener, I'm happy. :)

I'm not chalking this up as a loss at all, but I'm cool with whatever happens. Though I really wanna see Daisuke do well in front of his peeps.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:26 AM

Oh, shit. Come on, Tek...

THROW STRIKES, Dice-K.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:27 AM

I am really not enjoying this, Daisuke. We need to talk. (And we can, because I know enough Japanese to yell at you.)

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:28 AM

Ohhhhhhhhhh no. nonononononnonono.

Bases loaded. One out.

TG, has your TV thing worked out?

[ starr4 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:29 AM

OH dear, Matasuzaka is having opening day jitters!!! Remy, so charming. "He's missing by a lot!" Uh-oh.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:29 AM

Let's hope she DOESNT, Liza. She doesnt need to see this.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:29 AM

A double play would be wonderful here. (crosses fingers)

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:30 AM

2-0, A's, but Dice-K finally got another out. It was a really good play, actually. He ran RIGHT to the third base line and fired it to first.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:30 AM

Well, at least there was one out on the play. C'mon, Daisuke - just one more!

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:33 AM

YES. Strike 3. Finally.

[ starr4 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:33 AM

Phew!!!! We're out of the first.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:33 AM

Why do we ALWAYS suck on Opening Day?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:33 AM

About time! I can't believe we got out of that inning with only two runs given up. (wipes her brow)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:35 AM

Mike! Yaaay! That's a good way to kick things off...

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:35 AM

Yay Mikey!

C'mon, Moss...

[ Piney61 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:37 AM

Dionysus, I think Manny Ramirez said it best in 05(though he was talking about the last games of the season): "It's not how you come into the party, it's how you come out"

Also, keep in mind last time they actually won on Opening Day(2006) they ended up not even making the playoffs, so I mean I'd trade an Opening Day loss for a playoff spot any day.

That being said, I actually want to win this dammit!

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:38 AM

Cmon, Tek. Let's go...

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:38 AM

I know Piney.. I just... I would LOVE an Openign Day win, havign woke up so early.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:40 AM

Dammit Tek. We really need to stretch that inning out to give Dice-K time to sort himself out.

[ jenny again ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:40 AM

sun is about to rise here in western massachusetts! ;D

here's to a better 2nd inning for daisuke ...

LET'S GO RED SOX. ::clap-clap-clapclapclap::

[ mermaidmarian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:41 AM

That's gonna leave a mark.....

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:41 AM

Augh, why haven't we done anything right so far? C'mon, guys...

Oh, Dusty Brown was optioned to Pawtucket, but only because that way they can still use him instead of putting him on the inactive list. Eh, it works. But I'd like to see him play. (is in love with his arm)

[ Piney61 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:42 AM

Oh yeah, no question. I'd rather win given the time zone shit, but fehh whatever happens happens. All I ask that if it is gonna be a blowout, score early so I can sleep in the rest. :P I know I'm such a great fan, aren't I? I may go home right after my first class if I'm tired enough

[ Anonymous ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:42 AM

30 pitches in the first inning. Arg.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:44 AM

Please tell me I'm hallucinating and that the bases AREN'T loaded?

Okay, NESN took down the banner, I guess they aren't. Phew.

Although Dice-K did just walk a guy...

Moss just caught a big fly out in right. Love that guy.

Okay, Sox--I have to leave in 30 minutes. Let's score some runs?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:44 AM

Okay, that clip of him at Seibu? He looked so much more confident! Why can't he throw like that right now?

Good job on the pop-up, Daisuke.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:48 AM

Nice aerobatics by Lugo...

[ starr4 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:48 AM

Ah, I'll be a Matsuzaka defender for a moment: He still has to adjust to everything! I do think the Sox have asked him to change a lot since his Seibu days. So, he's still a work in progress, and a pretty good one at that. Just doesn't feel that way this morning.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:50 AM

Yeah, that's what I noticed in the clip of him from Seibu - he was throwing slightly differently. It looked very, very impressive. He'll settle in, I'm sure. I'm still confident in him and that hair.

[ starr4 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:50 AM

Ywah, Lugo!!!! Great catch.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:52 AM

Okay, two strikes... cmon Dice... has anyone got a gun on today's game? He somehow looks like he's not throwing his hardest. I think it's something in his follow-through.

Crap. Walk again.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:52 AM

50 pitches already. Not pretty.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:54 AM

If it counts as a strike, I'm fine with it...

[ starr4 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:55 AM

Two things: Does Tek appear pissed to anyone else but me?
And is Matsusake having leg problems with his push off leg?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:57 AM

Tavarez up in the pen.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:57 AM

Well, THOSE certainly weren't strikes. GOOD. Okay. 0-2. Let's go, Daisuke?

And Starr, I agree--there's something about his delivery, his follow-through, that just looks off.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:58 AM

NICE! That's more like it!

[ jenny again ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:58 AM

that strikeout was HUUUUUUUUUGE.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:58 AM

STRIKE THREE.

GOOD.

But bad. I have to go now. Phooey. Stupid school...

Good luck Sox, and good luck TG with that TV of yours...

[ Anonymous ] says:
on March 25, 2008 5:59 AM

Thank you! Stranding 3 after 60 pitches in 2 innings has to feel tough if your on the A's, right?

[ jules ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:01 AM

Good Morning All!

Is Dice-K struggling or what? I missed the last half inning cause I had to jump in the shower and hubby went back to bed.

[ jules ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:05 AM

:: whine ::
I miss Remy & Don.

"Pedrioia is a little guy..."

ahhhh...shut up ESPN!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:05 AM

Ugh. They're going on about 'little guy, big swing' with Dustin again. Can we stop putting so much emphasis on his height?

I know they won't do it, but it never hurts to ask.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:06 AM

58 pitches so far for Dice-K

[ jenny again ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:08 AM

youkie! atta boy! C'MON PAPI! (!!!)

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:08 AM

Almost time for another round of blood. I mean caffeine

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:09 AM

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit

[ jules ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:10 AM

Damn the shift.

I'm going to make some coffee.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:12 AM

I've got a nice big bottle of Coca-Cola here. And apparently there's no Diet Coke in the Tokyo Dome, just regular Coke.

[ Anonymous ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:14 AM

TWO OUTS IN A ROW! TWO OUTS IN A ROW!

[ jenny again ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:15 AM

dice looks MUCH better. eee. i'm sad his pitch count is so high already ... don't have much longer to settle in this early in the season.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:15 AM

Okay, I'm sure everyone knows it by now, but Hannahan has a hamburger named after him, according to Rob Bradford.

I wish I got the Koshien tournament here. I'd love to see it.

[ jenny again ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:16 AM

"dice-k much shah-pah here in the third inning." OH REMY. I MISSED YOU.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:18 AM

Nice jumping catch by Lugo there

[ Piney61 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:19 AM

I hope Dice can go at least 5 innings.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:20 AM

As much as I adore Jed, I have to say that I'm glad we have Lugo out there right now. Jed's a bit shaky defensively.

(I'm so proud of my ability to criticize the one player I am otherwise incredibly biased towards. I'm so stunned that I can do it.)

[ jenny again ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:20 AM

LUGO! wh0000t! now let's string together some hits, boys.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:23 AM

I'm guessing Texy has found a local establishment that is showing the game on the tele this morning.

[ Dionysus ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:23 AM

Fuck you Comcast

[ starr4 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:26 AM

Piney, I agree but his pitch count is high. He was much, much better this inning.

It would be embarrassing to pull him before the 5th. Would he lose face if the team did that? Would that be allowed?

[ jenny again ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:26 AM

15 min til i have to leave for work ... c'mon, sox.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:26 AM

I have Comcast and have had no problems at all this morning. I guess it all depends on where you live. Amalie Benjamin said over at EXTRA BASES that she's gotten a ton of emails about all the problems.

[ Abby ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:27 AM

That was a really nice defensive play for Lugo. Now if only these long fly balls could just go a teensy bit longer, that'd be better.

I'd be curious to know what the Japanese fans think of the American procedures going on in this game. I don't think Japanese players enter to music before their AB, and that's what they're doing today.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:28 AM

Abby during the preseason games against the Japanese teams, the Red Sox players had music before their AB's. Okakima came out to his Oki-doke song and Papelbon came out to his music as well.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:29 AM

WOW. There's a kid in my Civil War reenacting group that looks JUST like Travis Buck. (is weirded out)

[ jenny again ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:31 AM

oh man, dice looks GOOD this inning. nnngh. 1-2-3!

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:31 AM

Uno dos tres for Dice-K. nice to see him settling down

[ Ellen ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:32 AM

Nice!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:33 AM

Yeah Julio Lugo has officially grown on me, btw. I tried to not like him, but the dude just grew on me. I don't love him as I do some other guys on the team, but he's up there.

[ 1863_project ] says:

...I'm just sayin'.

[ jenny again ] says:

ok, work calls. BOOOERS.

GO RED SOX! *mwah!*

[ jules ] says:

Yea coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

[ 1863_project ] says:

on March 25, 2008 6:46 AM

damn why couldn't he pitch like this all game.

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:46 AM

I'm talking to my friend in UTAH and his DirectTV feed is working

[ Ian ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:49 AM

He said his problems are with the non-HD feed. His HD feed of the game is working.

[ jules ] says:
on March 25, 2008 6:50 AM

I wish Pedroia would hit it out of the park to shut ESPN up.

Kim, I have Direct TV (I can't stand them—the worst possible customer service EVER), but it's working for me in Sacramento.

I'd go nuts if I didn't have the game on.

GO PAPI!

Great catch but that had to hurt.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on March 25, 2008 7:48 AM

JACOBY! Amazing!

It has shades of when he got a concussion at Oregon State running into a wall, though. But he looks like he'll be okay.

[ fc ] says:
on March 25, 2008 7:49 AM

I'm off to work.
Will have the game in my ears except when the T is underground. Viva le Walkman.
See you kids when I'm back on line.

[ mermaidmarian ] says:

I agree with TG. Huston Street is a hottie. I never noticed it until I watched him give up that tying run. ;-)

[ jules ] says:

At work now. What a GAME! Paps was making it too interesting.

I'm going to need a frap soon. No doubt.

[ Caroline ] says:
on March 25, 2008 9:43 AM

I woke up in time to see innings 8-10, and can I just give a little bit more of my love to Brandon Moss? From what I saw in Spring Training, nobody's hitting hotter right now.

Also, Papelbon most assuredly does NOT get a cookie after that outing.

[ Liza ] says:
on March 25, 2008 10:48 PM

UGH. I hate school. I missed a game like that! AND it featured a Huston Street appearance. Grrr.

Brandon Moss = love.
