Good evening - am I the first one here?
Anothyer scratch seems to have nixed the likelihood that mhcranberry and I would see Josh when we go to Fenway next Friday (heh heh I'll also be there Thursday so I may get my chance then)...but the way things are going, who knows, maybe Pleats will be pitching.

[ Ellen ] says:
on April 23, 2008 6:59 PM

I can't help thinking that maybe if they weren't wallowing in spit all over the place, these kinds of communicable diseases would have a little less of an impact.

But that's just the grossed out girl in me talking.

I wonder if Pleats volunteered?

[ Erin ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:01 PM

Who hasn't been sick on the team?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:02 PM

You think they'd start sterilizing the clubhouse. At this rate, they'll be the Boston PawSox in a week or two...

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:02 PM

Erin, sshhhhh, let's not jinx.

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:02 PM

Happy Wednesday! what a great way to end a long day of finals :) they really need to take a few hours to clean down the clubhouse and get rid of all the not so lovely viruses floating around.
fc: that would be hilarious to see pleats pitching

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:03 PM

You've already had your finals? Ugh, I don't start mine for two weeks! Lucky...

[ Erin ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:03 PM

They should be giving out Purell to the team

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:04 PM

Hey everyone. What Ellen said about the spit, LOL! Those poor guys.

Okay, now that I'm all set up...Gameday visual, Gameday audio, and ready to post here...time to throw supper together so I can sit down, relax and enjoy the game!

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:04 PM

Im in FL so we start our semester a little earlier than most colleges. but don't worry in two weeks i'll be back in classes for summer classes i'm unfortunately required to take

[ Lulu ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:05 PM

I recall hearing on WEEI something about people spraying down the clubhouse? Apparently it didn't work very well.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:06 PM

(is thrilled to be here for her first start in three days) And Tito put Jed in the lineup for me! Thanks, Tito!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:06 PM

fc, I could make a comment about the not-sick too, but of course I don't want to jinx so will...uh...hush la boca.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:06 PM

No Youk either! I hate that.

Hey everyone!! Kinda pissy right now because MLBtv is having a brain fart. Looks like I won't get to see the game.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:08 PM

See, with Tek out, I could've sworn that Dusty Brown was coming up - and indeed those were the rumors earlier today. And apparently Youk had a back twinge, according to the radio...

It's Craig Hansen up now, by the way.

[ starlightmusic ] says:

Hello all! It's been a while. I've been sick with the flu . . .

[ 1863_project ] says:

...damnit, Jon. I know you're on short rest, so I'm not expecting as much today, but...yeah. Just settle down...

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:10 PM

grrrr....I'm getting ready to demand a refund!!!

[ jules ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:11 PM

ecl, Gameday visual and audio, eh? Good for you! It sure beats hunting down an audio stream.

Not a good start for Lester. Is he on four days rest?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:11 PM

MLB.TV didn't work too well for me, either! It kept glitching up on me...

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:12 PM

I don't know about anyone else but I'm getting tired of these first inning road team homers. maybe im being too selfish, what can i say

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:14 PM

Maybe Jacoby will hit another one tonight to make up for it. I mean, I heard he did it yesterday - he had a leadoff homer, which I missed, and I got back just in time for the second one.

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:14 PM

jules: yes because he replaced Dice-K

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:14 PM

Thanks, Lugo!

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:17 PM

As much as I'm disappointed at Youk not being in the lineup, do I have to tell you guys how delighted I am that he's out tonight and not last night when I was there?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:18 PM

I'm looking forward to watching the highlights and archived stuff later -- I want to see what Lugo just did, among other things, I'm sure. Bethie, if you have MLB.tv you should be able to at least do what I'm doing -- the audio plus the Gameday graphics. It's better than nothing.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:18 PM

fc - you were at the game last night? Wow, you got your money's worth! That was a fantastic game to be at...!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:19 PM

Yeah, no kidding, Steph. I'm jealous, fc!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:20 PM

Thank god I've got game day, or I'd be in trouble right now! I can't even get gameday audio to load. It's otherwise having "technical difficulties" or my computer has gone retarded.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:20 PM

If anyone cares, the PawSox are up 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Dusty Brown is up as I type this.

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:21 PM

So this is random but I'm a sports addict and I DVR mike & mike in the morning on espn and was watching yesterday's when buster olney (their magazine baseball writer) was on & they brought up Sean Casey being a lovely guy since apparently A. Rod (A-Hole whichever you prefer) called a trainer who is suspected of selling illegal substances to player "a lovely guy"
So long story short they were looking for sports players who are thought to be lovely people and this is what Olney said:
Olney: Players say that he's so nice when they lead off at first base and he's so chatty that they actually get distracted
Greeny: He's a lovely guy.
Golic: What is this the coffee clatch? (laughing)
Greeny: He's really a sweet guy.
Greeny: He did miss the Japan games because of southern league neck.
Golic: Slept on the plane wrong.
Greeny: which is my favorite injury in baseball
Olney: well he probably told the writers that too with a straight face and no one felt bad about it
Golic: Because he's a lovely guy
Greeny: He's really a sweet guy
Olney: Exactly

I hope that brought a smile to your faces like it did mine! The mayor is definately growing on me.

[ jules ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:22 PM

Thanks Danielle ;-)

LOL, fc. I was very disappointed when I went to Fenway last year (for my birthday!) and Youk and Manny had the day off. I really missed screaming "YOUUUUUK"

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:22 PM

Bethie, try rebooting your computer, and then access Gameday audio via the main MLB page. I didn't get any sound the first time I tried (logged in via the Red Sox Nation home page). Once I got on via the MLB page it worked like a charm.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:22 PM

Dusty Brown just singled! We could've used a healthy bat...

Hansen's probably a good idea for now, though, considering that the pitching staff is dropping like flies. But I was really hoping Dusty would get a shot...he's earned it. He's worked so hard and so long (in anonymity, for the most part - well, at least he says so), and he deserves it.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:25 PM

Ah, there we go! The radio says Jed has a "strong arm." Most of the scouts claim he doesn't. He's got a better arm than he's given credit for. And Justin Masterson says it's a rocket launcher, anyway.

(He admittedly does need to work on his hands - he's always been better offensively than defensively. To his credit, though, he's definitely improved throughout his Minor League career...)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:28 PM

...see what I mean about Jed occasionally dropping things? (And now Dusty Brown would've been really, really useful...)

At least the relay went nicely. Manny and Lugo get kudos here!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:29 PM

(Speaking of Portland, my guess is Masterson is in Pawtucket by Memorial Day weekend.)

Also, yay Manny!

[ 1863_project ] says:

FUCK IT.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:43 PM

Okay, that was way too strong a reaction. Sorry...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:43 PM

Whoops, I meant J.D. Credit me with an error.

You're welcome, Bethie. I've had to do my share of rebooting especially at work to get recalcitrant programs to work, so I know that drill by now.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:45 PM

Steph, I'm sure that was frustrating for you. But thanks for giving my little guy his props. Nine games in a row! What's in HIS Wheaties?

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:47 PM

Okay.....Lester tonight cause of no Dice K. Pauley last night because of no Becks. Soooooooo what does that do to the rotation for the rest of the week? Guessing Wake tomorrow?? Or (I hope not) Tavarez?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:47 PM

Yeah, he got robbed on that. We would've had the game tied up... (I'm on no sleep, too, so I'm overreacting and crap. Sorry...)

Lugo must be immune to whatever's going around in the clubhouse. It's nice to finally see him and J.D. hitting! They both look so much better offensively this season, and I'm really excited about that.

[ jules ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:49 PM

fc, if you've got it for Youk like 18 has it for Jed, you've got it bad ;-)

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:49 PM

If you go to this link, they have some possibilities for who pitches when. Wake is too good in Tropicana for them to push him up to tmw I'm guessing.

Seconding you, jules. I have a tag on my LJ that reads 'I am obsessed with Jed Lowrie,' and I have used it almost seventy times. I am positively pathetic.

[ Bethie ] says:

Hmmmm....interesting. If they bring back Snyder I might cry. After I get over my flashbacks from Japan. :)

[ fc ] says:

NICE ONE Jon. K!

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:52 PM

It's gonna interesting to see who they decide. Tavarez is out probably because of pitching almost 2 innings last night.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:52 PM

Hooray, a strikeout! That's it, Jon, settle down!

[ Erin ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:53 PM

18- Its getting to the point where I'm almost obsessed with David Wright of the Mets

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:53 PM

I can rule a starter out for now, at least - Charlie Zink is still making his start tomorrow in Pawtucket as of now. (He is a knuckleballer, which is cool.)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 7:54 PM

Erin, I don't blame you - David's awesome. My parents and kid brother are Mets fans (I'll actually be at Shea the first day I'm home from college!), so I see quite a lot of David around. He and Jose Reyes are just so fun to watch...

[ ecl1958 ] says:

David Wright is on my fantasy team. He is my favorite non Red Sox player.

[ 1863_project ] says:

CASH MONEY

[ choco ] says:

Yay Kevin Ca$h!

[ 1863_project ] says:

Okay Cash, I take back some of the rumblings I let slip about you yesterday.

[ Erin ] says:

Go Jacoby!

[ choco ] says:

YAY! C'mon Dustin! RBIs!

[ 1863_project ] says:

(has the Yankees and White Sox on TV right now) I feel so weird with Garland on the Angels...I keep thinking he's still with Chicago.

[ fc ] says:

Here we go! Ellsbury and Pleats showing them again!

[ Bethie ] says:

I'm so loving Pedroia. I just wanna put him in my pocket and carry him around. lol

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:03 PM

Steph, are you going to watch NYY/CWS or are you just checking in? I thought briefly about watching that (it's on here too) just to keep tabs so I wouldn't sound dumb if discussing baseball with my NY cousins who don't know I switched sides...but I'd much rather be over here with y'all!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:04 PM

LOL --Bethie! That would be easy to do, wouldn't it? He just looks so pocketable.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:06 PM

Yay college.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:06 PM

ECL - I'm staying here. I've got the Sox on the radio and the other Sox on ESPN. (I want to see Moose vs. Quentin because they both went to Stanford and I'm a dork like that because of Jed, so...yeah.)

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:07 PM

Yep...he's adorable. And he's proving every game he plays that big things can come in small packages. Cause he's whoopin everyone's ass.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:07 PM

To my eyes, Dustin resembles a turtle, at least from the side, especially when he makes that weird little grimace at the plate.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:08 PM

He's so cute in that picture

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:08 PM

Come on Manny!! You know you wanna blast one.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:08 PM

Dustin Pedroia is the reason I own an ASU hat. (My OSU and Stanford ones for Jacoby and Jed are currently in the mail on their way here.) Dustin is also the reason I love the Pac-10 Conference - he and Jacoby showed me what those kids can do out there, and I was so impressed I started following the conference. I'm glad I did - I didn't realize just how much I would love college ball, and I adore it now!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:10 PM

More college. I absolutely love the eyeblack - could he have it on any thicker?

C'mon, JD, let's do this!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:10 PM

Bethie, I forget where it was on line, but today I read some opinion regarding the ass-whoopin' being perpetrated on teams by several people, who the writer described as "the little guys," as in Dustin, Jacoby and Julio. Actually, I never thought of Jacoby as "little," but he's actually listed as the same height and weight as Julio. (shrug)

(sigh) Too bad, Manny...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:12 PM

LOL at the eyeblack picture. He looks so "wee" there!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:12 PM

Am I the only one that loves dirty uniforms??? LOL

Sorry, saw JD standing there all dusted up....brain wandered.... Forgive me. :)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:13 PM

As a freshman in college Dustin was listed at 5'6". That's quite believable. (I believe he's a sophomore in that photo, though, presuming it was taken in '03, which is when I think it was taken.)

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:14 PM

ecl, no slight to Julio, but if what you say is true, may I politely suggest that the distribution of said weight is more harmonious and pleasing on Jacoby.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:14 PM

Bethie - no, you're not. I have a thing for middle infielders (see Lowrie, Jed when he's not learning how to be a third baseman), and one of my favorite things about them is how they always manage to get their uniforms dirty by the end of the first inning. They're just good at it!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:14 PM

Whoops! Sorry, error again. Jacoby is listed at 185, Lugo at 175. I still say Jacoby isn't "little."

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:14 PM

I just love the fact that people seem to keep motivating the wee one by saying, "Oh there's no way he can do that". And he just comes out and says "watch me!"

And I never would have figured Ellsbury as being small, seems to me he's got some height on Lugo too...but what do I know. :)

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:15 PM

Bethie I thought the same thing seein JD at bat! That quiet, sweet boy all dirty from play...

[ Lulu ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:15 PM

Nice play Jed!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:16 PM

Attaboy! That's my little genius!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:16 PM

Thanks 18...glad I'm not alone. LOL

That's one thing I used to love about David Justice when I was younger. He could be safe by a mile and still slide into the bag. Come away all dirty. It was almost like he was sliding cause he enjoyed it. LOL

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:17 PM

Hi all,
It's a lovely night for baseball.

Oh, good play by Lowrie and Pedroia. Good, but no DP. Ah, but Lugo turns one! Yea.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:17 PM

Nice DP Julio!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:17 PM

LOL, fc. Yeah, I know...I just have that soft spot, ya know? He actually DID gain some weight (was WAY below listed last season after the GI bug) and I think it suits him. But Jacoby looks terrific, there's no doubt about that whatsoever!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:17 PM

Okay, that DP was SWEET!!! YAY!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:

I can tell I've got a radio delay going here...

[ 1863_project ] says:

(Currently getting up some pictures of Jacoby as a Beaver just to be fair because I've posted Dustin as a Sun Devil already tonight...)

Jacoby at Ye Olde Oregon State University:

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:19 PM

Bethie, I'm reasonably sure that Lugo is NOT 6-1. He doesn't look anywhere near that when he stands next to Papi. I would guess 5-10 or 5-11. Maybe some more seasoned fans would know the scoop.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:20 PM

Nice Casey! How sweet is it that our bench players are so good?

[ starr4 ] says:

[ 1863_project ] says:

YAY SEAN.

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:25 PM

Okay, I'm a n00b here- is 1863_Project Steph?

Jacoby's so cute :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:25 PM

I remember telling my sister (who lives in Oregon and has actually been to Madras!) about Jacoby during the playoffs last year. Unfortunately, at that point, being a NY native like me, she "couldn't get past the rivalry" to get excited about the Sox. I wonder if she'd reconsider? There's so much Pac-10 goodness and Oregon amazingness going on here, and the entire state has to be proud, I would think.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:26 PM

...oh, I think everyone needs to see this, because Jacoby seems a little less loose now. That's not to say he's all stiff and serious, because I know he's not, but this is something I've never seen him do outside of this picture...

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:26 PM

awww - we didn't need that.

[ ecl1958 ] says:

What a wonderfully silly pic, Steph!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:28 PM

choco - yes, I'm Steph.

Lester - you need to stop doing that, okay? You looked great last inning - let's see more of that.

ECL - I love the sheer Oregonianness of this team now. We have Jacoby, Jed and Pesky. 'Nuff said. (One of my new goals in life is to go to Oregon, just because.)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:30 PM

Steph, I haven't been out there yet (she moved there two years ago) because I can't afford it, but from all the pics I've seen and everything she's told me...it's an AWESOME place.

Nice DP!

I know I want to go to Oregon too!

[ 1863_project ] says:

Did you follow Jed in Pawtucket, too? Or was it love at first sight when he came up to Boston?

YEAH DUSTIN!!!

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:36 PM

YES!!! BIG PAPI!!!!!

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:36 PM

PAPI DOES IT!!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:36 PM

*ala Poltergeist* He's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:36 PM

Ooh...now Dustin all dirrrtttyyy.. he he

YAY PAPI!!!

[ Lulu ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:36 PM

papi!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:36 PM

I've been following Jed since he was down in the Minors - and in the Arizona Fall League last season, too. And when most people were worrying about Jacoby being traded, Jed was the one I panicked about.

PAPI! EFFING A!

[ Lulu ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:37 PM

Let's go back to back!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:37 PM

YEEEE HAAAAAAAHHHH! Woo hoo...can't wait to watch the replay!

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:37 PM

Papi & Coco: adorable.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:38 PM

Manny, I'm not wearing your shirt tonight, but (beg plead beg plead)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:39 PM

Walks are good. I'll take it. C'mon, JD!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:40 PM

...or not. Oh, well, tie game!

[ joyosity ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:41 PM

Just got into my hotel room. Noticed that other people were having issues with mlb.tv. Is anyone getting it to work now? It said that I was in an black out area, which I know I'm not because I'm in Chicago! Grrr....

Btw, with that HR, Papi now has as many HRs as Ellsbury. Heehee, it was fun to say yesterday that Ellsbury had more HRs than Papi. =)

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:42 PM

That's really cool, Steph. These people I used to go to church with give my family Paw Sox tickets and it's 5 rows above the dugout, so I see a lot of the guys coming up. My favorite is George Kottaras! :)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:42 PM

HANSEN! Class of '05!

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:43 PM

Papi is back!! I got distracted by Celtics games there for a bit.
Steph, I love all your pics you posted!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:43 PM

I like George! He actually homered today - I've got the PawSox game up on Gameday as I listen to the big club. They're up 3-1 in the top of the ninth!

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:43 PM

And now ladies and gemntlemen, heeerrre's Mouthy Breather!
And as a sleep impaired person, I say that with love.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:44 PM

wow, Hansen is kind of huge..

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:44 PM

Danielle - aww, thanks! I wish I could say I actually took them...I just found them on the internet.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:45 PM

B&W: Craig's listed at roughly 6'7"-6'8". Yeah, he's tall.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:45 PM

That should have been "Mouth" not "Mouthy."

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:46 PM

Wait...Mouthbreather to me is Lenny DiNardo(long story behind this one). I think of Hansen as "Apnea-Free Hansen"

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:46 PM

Is it wrong that I'm mindlessly staring at my TV right now just because both the pitcher and the batter went to Stanford?

Damnit, Craig!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:47 PM

Okay, it's official!!

THAT IS ENOUGH ANGELS HOME RUNS!!!

Dammit.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:47 PM

Not again...

Steph, he's listed at 6-6, 230 on MLB.com.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:47 PM

(To clarify, I'm watching Mussina pitch against Carlos Quentin.)

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:47 PM

tall guys = awesome
homeruns = not so awesome

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:48 PM

eventually I'll have to get my pictures uploaded from spring training and when I do Im sure you'll enjoy some- though I dont know if I have any good ones of Jed :(.

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:48 PM

Awesome! Where do you get gameday for PawSox? Is it on their website?!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:48 PM

ECL - He is? I've seen him listed as high as 6'8" somewhere - I'm not sure where, but I think it was on SoxProspects.com or somewhere, and since that's a fan-run site it might not be as reliable as the official site is.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:48 PM

Thanks for clarifying, Steph. I was wondering how you were watching this game.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:49 PM

Gameday is on MiLB.com, actually. Go to www.minorleaguebaseball.com and click, and you can bring up the Gameday program or even the radio.

One out and Pawtucket wins!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:49 PM

6'6"...6'8"

Either way it equals mammoth. Wow.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:50 PM

I wouldn't swear to the official site being accurate either! They have Dustin listed at 5-9 and Lugo listed at 6-1. I think they tend to exaggerate or minimize stuff.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:51 PM

Quentin's on base! Yaaay! (The fact that I only was gawking because they both went to Stanford is very pathetic, though.)

PAWTUCKET WINS! YES! Tejera finally gets his first win of the season! Nice!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:51 PM

Yeah, I have a friend who is 6-8 and a coworker who is 6-10. Mammoth pretty well describes them, even though they're the skinny type and not athletic/muscular.

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:52 PM

Yeah Julio doesn't look 6-1 to me.

Thanks for the info!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:52 PM

Not a problem! The game just ended, but there might be some other International League games still going on right now...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:53 PM

Is he okay? The radio says he's getting up s-l-o-w-l-y.

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:54 PM

Hopefully Julio's ankle/foot is alright!

It's good to know for future reference anyway.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:55 PM

That's gonna leave a mark.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:55 PM

(has her fingers crossed) If Lugo goes down, who would come up? Natale broke his arm...Tony Granadillo, maybe? But he's down in Portland...I guess we could do that in an emergency if necessary, but let's hope we don't have to resort to that.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:55 PM

Seems ok but he popped out.
That didn't look like it was that bad.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:56 PM

Ice pack time.

C'mon, Jed!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:56 PM

Okay, we need a hit. And this worked for Dustin, so...

College.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:57 PM

Steph, find more college pictures. Lots of pictures.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:57 PM

Nice, Jed! YES!

I need to find pictures of everyone in college now. It's working!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:57 PM

Steph, start digging up those pics. I think you're on to something!!! JED!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:57 PM

!!!!! Wow, Steph...you have the knack!

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:58 PM

I love how amazingly good looking our Red Sox... with its few exceptions aka tavs :D

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:58 PM

And Jed's hair looks weird in that one, too. He's a dork and I love him for that.

Shoot! I can't find Cash at Florida State! Nuuuuuu!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 8:59 PM

And for the ones who didn't go to college...minor league pics? Baby pics? They must be floating around somewhere out there!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:00 PM

okay I think we need to find college aged baseball pictures of everybody

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:01 PM

(has FAILed) I'd just come across his rookie card, and then he lined out...I dunno if that would've worked, though.

There is the Sox baby album on this very blog, though. And I once found Jed in high school and as a 10-year-old.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:03 PM

Uh oh...Lopez warming up in the pen.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:05 PM

Hansen: not bad!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:06 PM

Eeeek, have to run to a club meeting in a few. I'll miss a few minutes of the game...shoot.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:06 PM

Hey, where's Ian tonight?

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:06 PM

My friend is at the game tonight, 2 rows up from the bull pen. I just told her if they send out Lopez to yell at him that he better bring the A game tonight. :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:07 PM

I know I've seen a couple of pics of Manny from 1991 or 1992, which would have been college age. Julio went to junior college but I haven't seen any pics from that far back...found one from 1999 when he was still in the minors and would have been 23. He looked like he was more like 14, it was pretty funny. Papi...I've never seen college-aged pics of.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:07 PM

Let's not sell Lopez short - he's been pretty good in his last few outings.

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:07 PM

CRAP.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:07 PM

fc, I was wondering the same thing. And TG too.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:08 PM

...Dustin, you okay?

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:08 PM

sorry I did my original entry twice

[ joyosity ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:08 PM

Okay, could someone who's watching the game explain how Pedey "falls on his head"?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:08 PM

Alrighty, I'm running off to my club meeting. I'll be back soon - let's just get out of this inning, guys!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:09 PM

Uh oh....Pedey fall down. :(

I like Lopez, just get nervous when they send him out. It's like hit or miss with him it seems.

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:10 PM

ecl- I want to see young pictures of Papi!!! So badly! Julio, too.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:11 PM

Portland Press Herald is reporting that Justin Masterson is gonna get the start tomorrow afternoon. I swear to god this will be the final time I'm gonna report it. I'd give linkage but it keeps effing up on me

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:11 PM

Bethie, bullpen-seats story: mhcranberry had seats over the bullpen last Saturday and Billy the cop took her camera into the pen and got shots of the boys for her. HOW FREAKIN COOL IS THAT?

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:13 PM

OMG!! Are you serious?? My friend would probably shit herself if she knew that. That is awesome!

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:15 PM

Oh crap... bases loaded. :/ Let's get out of this one, Lopez!!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:15 PM

eeeeek.....loaded bases. **covers eyes**

[ ecl1958F ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:15 PM

Choco, I'd love to see kid pics of those guys too!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:15 PM

w00t

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:16 PM

Youngest thing I can find for Ortiz is rookie cards. Hmmmm....

Yay, finally out of that inning. Whew.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:16 PM

whew! (wiping sweat from eyes)

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:17 PM

Yep. Masterson is getting the start :D I'm happy but I'm also a little pissed off because I'm not gonna be able to watch it. I have to go up to school and finish up my editing/meet up with my group to get their pieces together and to burn it all on a DVD and burn some other stuff and the like. I got a long day...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:17 PM

Yeah, I haven't found anything older than that on Julio. Haven't tried w/Papi...yet.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:17 PM

I think we're gonna hafta do a hybrid of rookie cards/college pictures

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:21 PM

"if I warmed up like that body parts would be falling off."

I love Remy.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:21 PM

Future consideration for your site, Piney? :-)

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:23 PM

I will say, Lugo looked about 16 when he signed with the Astros. lol

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:24 PM

LET'S GO MANNY

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:25 PM

Oh my gosh! Look at Yoouk's!! haha, not the most attractive picture ever...

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:25 PM

JD looks adorable in his!
-Mannymannymanny..

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:28 PM

Bethie, are you basing that on the rookie card? If you search his name on Getty Images...all the way back...you can see a good face shot. He looks even younger.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:29 PM

Actually, i was talking about the one I found on Getty images. He doesn't even look legal. LOL

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:29 PM

Wakey: adorable at any age.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:30 PM

Back!

(sees the news about Masterson and passes out)

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:30 PM

Actually, i was talking about the one I found on Getty images. He doesn't even look legal. LOL

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:31 PM

LOL -- you found the old ones, then. What color shirt is he wearing? The white shirt was 1999 and the dark shirt was 2000. No kidding, he doesn't look anywhere NEAR legal!

[ Erin ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:32 PM

I'm sad that I'm going to miss Justin's start tomorrow. I have classes then.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:32 PM

The Rookie Card page is currently loading very slowly for me, but J.D. definitely was cute! And Youk was almost unrecognizable.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:32 PM

My heart rate just made the most ridiculous jump right now.

And here I was, projecting Memorial Day weekend for his arrival in Pawtucket! I literally shrieked out, "HOLY FREAKING SHIT!" in my dorm room just now.

Masterson. Holy crap. I hope we're not rushing him.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:33 PM

Youk: totally recognizable. EYES.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:34 PM

I'm gonna be singing "Never Gonna Give You Up" all day at school while I'm editing while Masterson is pitching(for those who are liek WTF, it's a running joke between me and Steph)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:35 PM

(blasts herself some Rick Astley! Yeah!)

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:35 PM

Rick Astley?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:36 PM

Piney and I have a theory that Justin Masterson Rick Rolls people. It's a long, long story.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:37 PM

Josh's card -- he looks kind of in shock or something!

Yeah, Casey!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:37 PM

Nice Rookie Cards! JD is adorable.....But I'm thinking...

Hellllooooooo Wakefield! WOAH! :)

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:37 PM

I've been Rick Rolled about 30 times..
*sighs*.

-more w00t!!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:38 PM

JED. YES. See, that's what playing Rick Astley does!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:39 PM

He'll get a hit now - watch it.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:39 PM

...or not. Whoops.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:39 PM

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:39 PM

whenever I say "w00t", the inning ends.
I should just stop talking all together.
-sits in corner-

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:40 PM

Dammit Jedward! *sigh* I don't like that they're leading off with Cash in the 9th but mehh you do what you can. I'm not expecting much from this game to begin with. We'll get em tomorrow, right? Right. (however if they wanna come back and win this ish, I'm all for it)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:40 PM

sigh...

Let's see...Rookie cards. Coco looks like he's trying to be a "bad man." And Papi looks pleasant as always.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:40 PM

We will get 'em tomorrow, because Justin Masterson is never gonna give us up or let us down.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:41 PM

Steph, you should have posted another college pic of him.

Back from your meeting so soon?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:41 PM

It was a really short meeting, and I live really close to the building...the whole thing took about ten minutes or so.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:42 PM

Tomorrow's game will start right around the time I usually eat lunch. Hopefully I can catch the first couple/three innings on Gameday visual, if nothing else.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:43 PM

Craig Hansen will be optioned back to Pawtucket to make room for Masterson, who was scheduled to start Thursday for Portland.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:43 PM

Those are the good kinds of meetings. Today I had to go to one where a bunch of us were writing a song to "roast" someone in our office who is retiring. Took an HOUR just to get through the preliminary meeting. And we're meeting at least two more times...all this for a performance that will probably take all of 10 minutes at the farewell party.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:44 PM

Crap, tomorrow is a day game. I'll be out shopping for my trip. Ugh.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:45 PM

Craig down? That's what I thought. I wasn't sure who they were going to send down, but Craig makes sense...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:45 PM

Actually, hold it - apparently there's room on the 40-man for him, according to Castig.

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:46 PM

The Yankees are beating the White Sox 3-0 in the middle of the 5th inning. Darn it...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:46 PM

Yes there's room on the 40-man but you're only allowed 25 on the active roster.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:46 PM

Ah, right. But they won't have to designate anyone for assignment to make this move - that's more where I was going with that.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:51 PM

aw, crap

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:51 PM

...whoa, the radio's talking about Dustin's "catching" career. I knew about high school, but they mentioned college...

(goes off to dig up his college stats) I'll see if he's ever started at catcher. I can't see it...but I'll check anyway.

Nice, Jacoby!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:52 PM

Alright....now we gotta pull it out in the bottom of the 9th. No pressure guys. :)

[ joyosity ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:53 PM

Yay, time for a walk-off!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:54 PM

Dustin's college stats. I'm not seeing anything about catching here, but...

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:54 PM

I don't trust Jacoby in the clutch....

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:55 PM

NOOOOOO.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:56 PM

mehh whatever happens, happens. I'm okay with it as long as they win tomorrow

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:56 PM

SHIT.

Last resort!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:56 PM

LOL at that pic of Dustin. He's doing the "stick the chin at the camera" thing that I've seen so many "wee" guys do. Must make them think they look taller or something.

[ choco ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:56 PM

Oh, I love that picture! It's part of my "Jacoby Ellsbury picture slideshow" on my computer. I love it!

C'mon Dustin!!!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:57 PM

I like those last two pics, Steph. Really nice shots.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:57 PM

Thanks! Wish I took them!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:58 PM

Holy Crap. The Tigers won 18 to 6?!?!?!?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:58 PM

Choco -- I have a "Red Sox, mostly Dominicans" slideshow on mine. It keeps getting bigger and bigger...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:58 PM

Those same Tigers?

Nuuuuu, we lose. FAIL.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:59 PM

18-6 HUH? Gotta check that box score.

Dang...I can't believe we...lost. Urgh. Well, there's always tomorrow.

[ fc ] says:
on April 23, 2008 9:59 PM

awwww :(

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 23, 2008 10:00 PM

(is still in a ridiculously good mood) Masterson tomorrow - and my family's coming to visit me for my birthday on Friday! Losing isn't so bad when you've got your favorite pitching prospect making a start and you're seeing people you haven't seen in some time...

[ Bethie ] says:

You guys might wanna hold on, if Detroit just won 18 to 6 then the world may have stopped turning.

Poo. We lose. Oh well. We did the best we could with everyone having the flu and achy body parts. :)

Bethie, the scoreboard has that 18-6 in the 7th. So it could get more ridiculous.

So Steph, in case I don't get to poke my head in during tomorrow's game (or you aren't there either), have a wonderful birthday!

Ahhhh...I see. That's almost scary.

I just saw the score pop up during the Yankees game and thought for sure it was over. Heh.....

Well, that's what I meant -- it will be your birthday before we're both over here again, most likely. I'll be here Friday night for sure.

Ah, that makes sense! Sorry if I sound all stupid tonight - my sleep was limited last night. Thanks again!

...and goodnight again, too!

I do enjoy these game day chats. They are so enjoyable. :)

Heading off to bed too. Gots lots of stuff to do tomorrow while I'm missing the ball game. :(

Bye everyone!

Too bad we lost the game. I wish tomorrow's game were in the evening--will have to Gameday the game in between meetings.

18...thanks for the Jacoby photos. I grabbed a copy for my daughter ;-)

what the hell? I actually go to THE GAME and you guys are all postin pictures of Jacoby an' shit?

well...it was a subpar game. Every single game I take my 65 year old father to...they lose. what the hell?? and the biggest play of the game - Papi's 2-run HR - what am I doing? it's the one half-inning that I'm actually in the beer line, of course. I swear, every time there's a big moment in a game...I'm, either in the bathroom or in some long food line. argghhh.

oh, and I would like to report that during an Angels pitching change, Manny disappeared into the scoreboard. :-)

well while I'm here...THIS is one my favorite Jacoby pictures.

he's just this beautiful superhuman he is....
