um...I think we just saw Youk practicing Kung Fu.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:08 PM

I have no idea what that Youk thing was... or that Papi thing, either, for that matter...

I'm going to be posting randomly and distractedly. But YIPPIE--regular baseball!

Go, Jacoby!!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:10 PM

welcome to my part of the country. i'll be here sporadically until 11 PM. I'm pulling double duty with the UConn women playing right now.

I've got NESN HD on the computer for the Red Sox and ESPN HD on the tele for the UConn women.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:11 PM

Is it me or were we just getting a little spanish broadcast in the background?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:11 PM

Oh, I've been looking forward to this for some time...more baseball. Even if I only get the radio.

(If I wasn't from New Jersey, I'd totally pull for UConn, too, but I'm contractually obliged to be a Rutgers fan tonight. Sorry!)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:11 PM

Uh... is it just my TV or is there some Spanish commentary also going on?

It's gone now... but it was really hard to tell what Don and Remy were saying.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:12 PM

Nope - we had it on our feed too. I thought it was Japanese at first- shows what I know.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:13 PM

alarm is set for 6:30 a.m. tomorrow ... i wonder how long i can justify staying up tonight ...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:13 PM

It's ok 1863. at least now it's a game again. I thought I might have to switch the women off the tele.

Plus part 2 of last night's CSI Miami is on.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:14 PM

First thing Texy unpacks when she gets to the Boston area. Her laptop. you gotta love her.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:16 PM

Okay, Daisuke - now's the time to look good. (crosses her fingers)

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:17 PM

c'mon dice, don't nibble, kid, GO AFTER THEM.

ooh! K! atta boy.

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:18 PM

Nice start, Dice-K!

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:18 PM

I liked the Spanish broadcast leak! Not that I understood much of it. Does this mean Don and Rem are seated right niext to them?

Go Dice-K. Keep ahead of the batters.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:18 PM

I approve. Even if Travis Buck went to ASU. (hearts her Pac-10 kids for no real reason)

[ jules ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:19 PM

:: does happy dance ::

I've got baseball! The A's/Sox games were blacked out last year, so this is a wonderful surprise.

So far so good for Daisuke.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:19 PM

NICE one to get the strikeout there... Good job, Dice. He's looking good.

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:20 PM

Dice-K-K

[ jules ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:20 PM

damn, the yanks won today.

Good job, Daisuke!

[ jenny again ] says:

oof, dirty beautiful. nice work, daisuke! two down!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:21 PM

I'm a little delayed because I've got the radio! I'm reading spoilers...but they're good ones. Nice strikeout, Daisuke.

[ jules ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:22 PM

Mikey!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:22 PM

a pretty economical inning!

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:22 PM

Nice 1-2-3 for Dice-K. Way to get it started!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:22 PM

I know it's old news, but Gagne's implosion yesterday makes me laugh and laugh and laugh.

Sucks he still got the W.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:22 PM

YES. I approve.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:23 PM

The Dugout about Gagne's meltdown made my morning today. A blown save should negate a win or something:-P

[ jules ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:24 PM

Watching the Bay Area feed...they're showing how the A's beat the Sox in 2003 by a bunt.

shuuuuuuuuuudup!

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:24 PM

Hi TG,
I saw a glimpse of Gagne yesterday and my stomach seized. He just causes an adverse reaction in me. He most definitely does not make me laugh.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:24 PM

Speaking of closers, Huston Street is on the radio! Okay, so he just did a commercial, but...he was still a closer on the radio.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:25 PM

HA-HA BREWERS, HA-HA! (clap clap clap)*

I mean, go Manny!

*Me being late on being late about Gagne. :P

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:25 PM

BOINK! manny! eee.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:26 PM

YES! Go Manny!

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:27 PM

I can't wait until the Brewers come to Fenway so we can "welcome" Gagne back hehe.

Manny really wants his $20 mil. SB!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:27 PM

Mikey with a necklace on - that's new/

[ jules ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:27 PM

Yeah...Manny on 2nd.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:27 PM

Woo, to second! (Blanton totally missed on that one...)

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:28 PM

Street is Sweet.
Suzuki's having some ball problems and he's getting boinked by Lowell's bat.

[ jules ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:28 PM

That must've hurt (bat to the head for Suzuki).

Thankfully Manny was on 2nd already, that would've been a double play.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:29 PM

fc, you're right--it looks like a Beckett necklace... or maybe a Buchholz one... I'm not sure where from, but it's definitely familiar-looking...

(Is that weird, that I recognize necklaces of baseball players? Wait--don't answer that. It's no. :D)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:29 PM

Meghan: my favorite part of that Dugout was "a nation laughs", followed closely by "ow my career".

starr4: as a Cubbies lover, anything that messes up the Brewers makes me laugh. When it's Gagne, who we unloaded + got a pick + got the Cubs rival to pay him $6MM? HAHAHAHAHAHAH

[ jules ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:29 PM

Pretty funny, A's crew is showing all the Sox fans in the stands.

heeheeheee

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:30 PM

Awww, poor Kurt...I like him.

(And the necklaces aren't weird at all - the number of ways I can recognize Jed Lowrie are creepy, including the shape of his nose.)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:31 PM

Don't worry, haha. It's not weird.

NICE grab by Hannahan...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:31 PM

Umm what do i with the ball? I;ll hold it so all the Sox runners are safe.

Nice snag though.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:31 PM

Oops, Hannahan! Your rookie is showing there, kid. (I feel a little bad, actually.)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:32 PM

at least Tek didn't strike out.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:32 PM

MANNY THE INTIMIDATING BASERUNNER! safe all around!

oh. oh tek. sadface.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:33 PM

That was a GIFT. Coco totally took a swing on that. 3B umpire wasn't paying attention.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:33 PM

The radio (the A's stream) just described Blanton's fastball as a 'dead fish.' (is totally weirded out...)

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:33 PM

I see your point, TG. He just doesn't amuse me but I'll try and keep in mind your equation the next time he's on the TV. Thanks.

Did you see the rooftop block the Cubbies proposed today? That was amusing.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:34 PM

oddly enough it's thundering out here.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:34 PM

Cocoooooooooooooooooooo...

Oh well. Let's see some Dice-KKKKKKKKs!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:34 PM

Coco's got a decent at-bat going here...(knocks on wood)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:34 PM

Dang it! that pitch looked inside.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:35 PM

Go figure. Me and my radio delay. Ugh.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:35 PM

Whoa. This commercial TOTALLY reminds me of August Rush, which I watched the other day and completely loved...

(Random? But true. And a little relevant: I love NESN.)

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:36 PM

(stealth severe thunderstorm out here in western mass too)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:36 PM

And now comes the lightning. Please please power stay on.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:37 PM

God fucking damnit.

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:37 PM

Ow, outta the house. Ouch.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:37 PM

Oof.

Bye-bye Cust.

No weather of note here...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:37 PM

sayanora baseball.

that sucks. but helps my fantasy team.

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:37 PM

Dice-K PPPLLLLEEEEAAASE don't let this get to you

[ jenny again ] says:

AWW BISCUITS. stupid stupidhead, jack cust.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:37 PM

...well, I saw that comment just as I heard the play on the radio. Not fun.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:38 PM

I'm on the shoreline of Connecticut. West Haven to be exact. Or as the locals call it. Waste Haven.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:38 PM

And now 3-0. Booo.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:39 PM

Wait, that's...is that the score? I'm still on radio delay here...Please tell me that's the count...

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:40 PM

Haha no, just the count! Sorry.

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:40 PM

kids, usually avid commentator mhcranberry has charged me with saying hi while she splits her attention between Sox & Celtics.

Me, I'm a one-sport one-team girl.

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:41 PM

Yes, 1863, the count. Score is 1-0

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:42 PM

They're talking about the Twins game on the radio - did anyone else catch that last night? Carlos Gomez looked gooood.

I'm so glad I can still wear this. It just arrived in the mail today!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:42 PM

Thank God. I had a heart attack for a second - I'm studying for a test I have tomorrow, so my full attention isn't there...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:43 PM

OK. my apartment building just started to shake on the last round of thunder.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:43 PM

I'm splitting between the two games as well....focusing more on the Sox cause the Celts have everything pretty much locked up. I don't know what I will do when the NBA playoffs start though:-/

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:44 PM

Yeah, watched that game. Gomez looked good. Hunter got a warm reception first time at the plate, too. Respectable.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:44 PM

(is very happy to be in her PA college right now) I saw rainclouds earlier today, though - I'm surprised we didn't catch it here!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:44 PM

AAAAAAAAH, 1863, it came!

I am SO jealous. I wish I'd thought of that, actually.

Phew. But wow--two home runs in (less than) two starts against the Dice...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:44 PM

where's the Pedroia ads on NESN?

I still have the newest one to upload.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:45 PM

who needs eric chavez when they have Hannahan

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:45 PM

I was grinning like an idiot as I carried the package back to my dorm room. The whole campus must think I'm deranged...

I'm gonna wear it on Thursday when the PawSox kick their season off. I'm pathetic like that.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:46 PM

It actually rained a lot earlier today... I was outside, too. (Trying out for my school's softball team, specifically...)

WOW, good fielding by the A's today. First Hannahan (again), now Brown.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:49 PM

at least pedroia made blanton work for that out. ::shiftyeyes::

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:49 PM

Need to find the gaps boys....

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:50 PM

Dustin's tiring Blanton out - it's all part of a master plan designed by Alex Cora to get him out of the game so the Sox can get to the bullpen. Cora's a certified genius.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:54 PM

Yeah, Dice!

1863 - Radio delay is that bad, huh?

Buck's up now.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:54 PM

According to the radio, only three A's batters have gotten a first pitch strike - and one of those was the Cust homer. Uh-oh.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:54 PM

And YEAH, Tek!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:55 PM

nice throw there by Tek

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:55 PM

It's slightly off. All the action is spoiled for me by at least a few seconds.

Tek pretending to be Dusty Brown there?

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:55 PM

so much for that base runner

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:57 PM

ok, who's got the horn that sounds like my car???

beep beep beepbeepbeep!

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:57 PM

certified Tek fan asks: Say what?

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:58 PM

Daisukeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:58 PM

Dice-K is ON tonight!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:58 PM

If you're asking about why I mentioned Dusty Brown, it's because I've never seen him miss when he throws runners out. He's got a golden arm - he's fast and deadly accurate.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:59 PM

Woot! Dice-KKKK.

The last game I went to that someone had a horn like that, this older gentleman sitting near me told him it was bothering his hearing aides, and the dude with the horn stopped. The older guy later told me he didn't actually have hearing aides but "hate(d) thos damn things!" :-D

[ starr4 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 10:59 PM

Brown gets some love from me but as Respect the Tek, as the blog says. :)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:00 PM

That story about the older gentleman reminds me of a story of my late grandmother at her last Mets game. There were some people standing up a few rows in front of us, and none of us could really see. My grandmother, who was born and raised in New York and didn't take shit, went up to them and told them to sit down, and they did - and this guy in his twenties or so behind us nodded and said, "Cool." It's one of my favorite memories of her...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:02 PM

I love that blog. It's so fun.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dusty and/or George as Tek's backup soon - they both can catch knuckleballs, so they'll be exciting to have with the big club. And they'll have the opportunity to learn so much from Tek, too - his knowledge is encyclopedic.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:04 PM

Tek = encyclopedic. I like it. (Plus, it's freakin' true.)

Mikey! C'mon... wow, that wasn't outside at all... but that one was nice!

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:04 PM

Hahahaha. THAT was funny.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:04 PM

Oops. nice catch barton

UConn women won. WOOOOOOOOT.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:05 PM

Wow, Mike. Lucky. (It's totally because I just moved the location of my "lucky" Oregon quarter on my desk. Okay, totally not.)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:05 PM

Wow, hideous play (if you can call it that) there.

And Mikey: WHY DIDN'T YOU RUN IT OUT?

Anyway. End of the inning.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:06 PM

Okay, let's just forget that luck business. Everything I say seems to be immediately negated by the next pitch.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:07 PM

nesn had to kill the end-of-inning music that hard already started. hee.

BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS IT, BARTON.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:08 PM

This umpire's strike zone is full of ish

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:10 PM

Very well put, Piney.

Yeah Dice-KKKKK!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:11 PM

5 strikeouts for Daisuke. With the exception of that little blip in the first inning, he's looked better than last time.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:11 PM

Whoops, meant second inning. Sorry!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:12 PM

Yay. That's better!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:12 PM

Dice's performance so far is very encouraging.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:13 PM

Whoa--either monster, random rain or intense hail just started...

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:13 PM

But now we've gotta get the bats goin...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:13 PM

It's rain--it's drowning out Remy and Don!

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:14 PM

dice is looking quite sharp. c'mon, sox bats: help him out! ;D

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:14 PM

Okay next inning I'm gonna try to call it:

Youk BB
Tek K
Coco HR
Lugo fly out to center
Jacoby infield single
Pedroia ground out to short

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:15 PM

Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:15 PM

YES! I was able to switch to WRKO! Much better!

(grabs her Oregon quarter) It's a Jacoby-and-Jed-and-Pesky-are-from-Oregon thing. I kept the quarter for that really lame reason. Let's see if we can get some help from Pesky here...

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:15 PM

Youk! 2/2!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:15 PM

I swear if they go 1-2-3, I'll stop!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:15 PM

Holy crap - just got that cloudburst here.
and....Yooouuk!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:15 PM

Not so far, Piney. Although if you change the BB for a 1B, that might work out.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:16 PM

My new roomie has a GIANT HD flatscreen... it's like night and day to my old TV. I can see the freckles on Tek's head underneath his hair.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:16 PM

Yay, Youk! Nicely done!

The only player whose actions I can accurately predict is Jed Lowrie. I'm not sure why, but I can tell what he's going to do (I've predicted strikeouts, double plays, walks and the like, but only with him). I wonder about that sometimes...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:16 PM

Holy... the house just shook!

C'mon, Tek! Tektektektektek...

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:17 PM

fc and Liza- You guys are in Boston right? I haven't gotten any of that stuff yet.

Please don't strike out Tek...please.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:18 PM

omg, blanton's HAIR. awesome, kiddo. just awesome. ;D

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:18 PM

Hold the phones - Blanton might be injured...or he might have a contact lens issue.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:18 PM

(cannot see Blanton's hair) Nuuuu! It sounds epic!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:18 PM

dang it. nice catch by buck though.

tek should call 911 cuz he just got robbed.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:19 PM

Well...that's a start Tek.

We've having bad luck tonight with where these are going:-/

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:19 PM

Yep, Boston. Just outside, anyway. And it's suddenly stopped... and started again... and stopping again... jeez.

WOW. Nice catch. Reminiscent of Jacoby in Japan, but with a shorter jump...

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:19 PM

nice hit by Tek, robbed by good fielding.
But he made good contact. Nice to see.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:19 PM

that's why I had earlier Liza.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:19 PM

DAMNIT!

(Travis, you're making it easy for me to dislike you. But you went to ASU with Dustin so I can't hate you altogether.)

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:19 PM

0/2 so far....mehh not taking much into it. I would liek for Coco to do good

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:19 PM

BUCK!

Coco's chin hair disturbs me. So do his continual K's.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:20 PM

Ugh. Coco, it's not your night.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:21 PM

Make that 0/3....I'm not gonna do this predicting stuff anymore....I suck

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:21 PM

Bwaha, that's more like it, guys!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:21 PM

Jacoby...(gets the Oregon quarter ready)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:22 PM

YOUK!

*crosses fingers* don'tbehurtdon'tbehurt

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:22 PM

Woohoo! Yay Jacoby and Youk (I want to see a replay though...but I'm not complaining).

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:23 PM

SAFE!

Yeah, Jacoby! Finally some htis. This is looking good. C'mon, Dusty P...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:23 PM

There's the power of the Oregon quarter. I had that thing clenched in my fist.

(Jed's mentally supporting you from Pawtucket, Jacoby.)

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:23 PM

Eeek I hope Youk's okay...he had that wrist issue last fall after getting HBP'ed by Wang, but I can't recall which had it was.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:24 PM

They're juiced... just in time for Manny Ortez.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:24 PM

Come on Papi!

I've got the scary thunder near me now.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:25 PM

Dustin - good job! Nice patience!

(Ooooh, I like this.)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:25 PM

I think it was his left hand before?

LET'S GO PAPI! -clap clap clapclapclap-

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:26 PM

Well that sucks.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:27 PM

Damnit. Eh, at least we tied it up!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:28 PM

Ouch, bad luck for the Sox tonight, but I'm glad to see the team starting to hit a bit, so there's encouraging stuff.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:29 PM

TG: i'll never forget the first time i saw fenway on an HD tv .... i swear, i could count every blade of grass. it was otherworldly.

i really need to be in bed ... stupid early work ... mumbletygrumblepants!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:29 PM

Well it sucks that we stranded all those guys, but DiceK's throwing strikes, kept pitch count low, and our bats are alive. Even Tek made solid contact.
My glass is half full.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:30 PM

Ooookay, Dice, let's get over the plate, hm? Ooh--much better.

At least he just reached 60 pitches. He's being much more economical this time around.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:35 PM

Dice-KKKKKKK!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:35 PM

Dang Dice-K is dealing.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:35 PM

nnnnngh.

bed bed bed bed bed.

dice-KKKKKKK! (!!!) GO SOX!

g'night, everyone!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:35 PM

YES! (fistpumps ala Paps) Nice, Daisuke!

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:37 PM

God damn, I cannot wait to see Manny get back to the Monster this season.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:39 PM

Yooouuuuukkk!!!!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:40 PM

Night, jenny!

I'm really happy (and a little pleasantly surprised) at Dice's command tonight.

Also: Blanton has the ugliest delivery I've ever seen.

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:40 PM

YEAH!!!!!!!!!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:40 PM

YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK!

That was awesome. Sorry there, Brown.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:40 PM

Yay, Youk! He's having a fantastic night!

...I love watching him hit triples, too, because he's not fast. He and Dustin are gonna have some fun with this one later...

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:41 PM

TEK!!!!!!!!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:41 PM

Spoilers good?

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:41 PM

That was SO gone! It bounced UP!

But in any case, we're ahead!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:41 PM

Spoilers VERY good! YES!

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:42 PM

How the fuck did it bounce up if it didn't hit the lip ABOVE the yellow line?

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:42 PM

GIVE HIM THE HOMERUN YOU ASSFACES!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:42 PM

That was a home run. No doubt whatsoever.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:43 PM

Spoilers VERY good! YES!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:43 PM

DAMN. ROBBED.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:44 PM

BOOOL SHEEET!! Ugh! I'm not even blaming Tek for this...he should have a damned HR

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:44 PM

Spoilers VERY good! YES!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:44 PM

THAT WAS A HOMERUN.
AND MATT HOLLIDAY STILL HASN'T TOUCHED THE PLATE.

Hey- Coco got another out! Left another runner stranded!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:45 PM

What the hell? Damnit...I call bias! They did something similar to Manny last year, too...

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:45 PM

On the bright side - how awesome is it to see Tek hitting again?

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:48 PM

That was DEFINITELY gone. Ughhh.

Anyway--75 pitches through 7 for the Dice! This is definitely good news! (On average, he's on track for 96.4285 pitches through 9... not bad at all!)

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:48 PM

Yeah, it happened to Manny at the Jake during the ALCS. Although it wasn't quite as obvious as Tek's. Bullfuckingshit though. That could have been a big run.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:50 PM

Stupid non-HR call better not burn them or else I'm going on a rampage...and it will not be pretty.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:50 PM

Aww, that Oki story is so sad.

Get #8!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:51 PM

Dice-KKKKKKKK

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:51 PM

What Okaji story? (Radio...)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:51 PM

Heh. I was supposed to sleep at 11. Oops...

Okay, I'm going to bed. Good luck Dice-K(KKKKKKK--that's eight now!) and other Sox!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:52 PM

DICE-K IS AWESOME TONIGHT

[ Liza ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:52 PM

Oh my god--nine!

Dice-KKKKKKKK!!!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:53 PM

...I'm in love a little. Watashi wa Daisuke ga daisuki desu!

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:53 PM

I've never had a Japanese baseball boyfriend before...

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:54 PM

Fuck yeah! His most SO in a game last year was 10...

Remy was just talking about how the Japanese media was fawning over Dice-K, while Oki, who had pitched in Tokyo, was mostly overlooked.

[ fc ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:54 PM

It's OK - he's a Hero in the Dark

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 1, 2008 11:56 PM

If it makes Okaji feel any better, he's my favorite reliever by far. I'm a huge fan. (Coolest delivery ever, too - okay, maybe second coolest delivery to Pat Neshek.)

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:01 AM

Dice-K's awesome tonight!

The game isn't on TV near me, so I'm listening with GameDay Audio.
I'm listening to it in Spanish (because...well, why not?), and the announcers are going crazy.

They're actually yelling "Strike" in English because they are so excited.

And when he strikes someone out, they shout "Sientate!," which means Sit Down!, but they are using a form that makes it informal and a little insulting (it's kind of hard to explain...)

It's pretty hilarious, but I'm sure it not as good as actually watching it. :(

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:01 AM

Tied with Neshek. No doubt.

Also, GO DICE. (And the only hit so far in the whole game has been that homer. Just sayin'...)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:01 AM

...does your username mean I'm not the only New Jerseyan in here? (hopeful grin)

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:03 AM

Yep, I'm from Jersey, too!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:04 AM

YAY! New Jersey! It's fun to find Sox fans in New Jersey...

(I try to convert people sometimes, but since I'm up north it's hard to convince the Yankees fans otherwise.)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:08 AM

Daisuke done for the night. Good job, Daisuke!

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:08 AM

YAY!
Yeah, the Yankee fans here can get pretty annoying.

Just curious...Are you a Devils (hockey) fan?

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:08 AM

Well, that was very, very promising.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:08 AM

Aw, Dicey. Oh well. Great job through those innings, wow, though, wow.

Does anyone around Boston still have rain?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:10 AM

I don't follow hockey too closely, but I've been to a game or two and would consider them my team if asked. (They have my support, in short. I'm pretty much a baseball person, though.)

I'm in college in western PA, though, so I see a lot more Penguins stuff out here where I am. A lot of Penguins and Orioles stuff, actually. Not too many Pirates fans - hmm.

[ fc ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:10 AM

still raining, drip,drip,drippy.
And we are seeing GOODNESS from our team tonight.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:10 AM

Totally random, but: I love that the new crossfade graphic has the trophy on it, in addition to the NESN logo.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:11 AM

Cool.
I'm mostly baseball, too, but with the playoffs coming up hockey has been pretty intense.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:12 AM

Yeah - from what I've seen on ESPN, the race is pretty tight this year. (Out in this part of PA, it's Crosby this, Crosby that...)

Damnit, Okaji! I love you, but let's not walk people, okay? (You're still my favorite reliever.)

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:13 AM

I think everyone else is trying to figure out why he wasn't allowed to finish the inning too, Don.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:16 AM

I just literally laughed out loud at Jacoby slapping Dustin's ass after he caught that out. LOL MOMENT!

Anyway. I just adore that NESNHD commercial--"We're World Champions. The first time, we didn't see it coming. The second time... we kinda did." It totally gives me chills.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:16 AM

The bigger question 1863 is am i the only male in here.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:16 AM

Knocking on wood, but Youk would tie the all-time 1B errorless record if he gets through tonight, according to the radio...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:17 AM

I'm quite female, actually...

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:17 AM

I think so, Ian!

[ fc ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:18 AM

Why Ian, you're looking quite fetching tonight...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:18 AM

I'm quite female, actually...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:18 AM

I figured that as I can most of the people here. It does seem like I'm the only male.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:18 AM

Argh, stupid thing posted twice. (kicks the computer)

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:18 AM

I love that NESN commercial too...the "we kinda did" line and the music just get me for some reason.

Where are the bats????

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:21 AM

Ian: pretty sure. According to the ticker at the bottom, 14 people are online. In the last 20 minutes, 6 different people have posted. 5 are girls. The other is you. Yep, methinks you're the only guy.

Lurker guys: if you exist, post! We won't bite... We don't even bite Yankees or A's fans. Mostly.

I wonder... will Street be pitching tonight?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:21 AM

It's cool I really don't mind ;)

the bats are still in Japan. They do have 7 hits.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:21 AM

If you sign up for Red Sox Kids Nation you can get a free Dustin Pedroia lunch box. I wonder why they picked him?:-P

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:22 AM

...I want a Dustin Pedroia lunch box! Damnit! I identify with him (long story, but still...)!

Jonathan warming in the pen.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:23 AM

The Red Sox still have two more Opening Days this season to go through. One in Toronto and of course THE RING CEREMONY

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:24 AM

Because Pedroia is about as tall as the kids who will get the lunchbox.

And in case you hadn't heard the first hundred times tonight, RemDawg is the president of Red Sox Nation,

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:24 AM

I'm nervous....

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:25 AM

There's nothing wrong with joining Kid Sox Nation for the lunchbox. Not that I know anybody who did that last year for the Papelbon lunchbox or anything.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:26 AM

Oops. I really am going to sleep this time, guys... I mean, girls and guy...

Good luck Okie and Sox!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:26 AM

Mike Sweeney in. Cue the Dugout Jif!

I still think of PECOTA when I see Jif in the supermarket...

Jonathan in.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:27 AM

AAH. I think the world wants me to stay up here--Pap's coming in AND the "we sorta did" commercial just played.

Must... stay... awake...

I would TOTALLY get a Pedroia lunchbox. Seriously.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:27 AM

I am curious to know the state of RemDawg Nation, since their president must have resigned:-P (I've had a few beers, forgive my silliness).

Paps in...please show us the last two outings were flukes.

[ jules ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:28 AM

I'm back--fam turned in. We had American Idol on and the game on Gameday on my laptop.

Pap is pitching!

Forecast for tomorrow is horrible. I hope we don't get rained out.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:28 AM

I'm not a big fan of the 4-out Papelbon

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:28 AM

...dude, they're playing the Murphys in Oakland! I hear it on the radio!

[ fc ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:29 AM

Liza, you're still in school, right? So you are a kid, right? Go for the lunchbox!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:29 AM

Would that anybody perhaps be you Texy?

How old was your "kid"?

[ jules ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:30 AM

Pap got him on two pitches. Excellent.

Dropkicks!?!?! Awesome.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:30 AM

The Spanish guys keep obnoxioiusly saying "El Animal," so I'm pretty sure they're talking about Paps...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:30 AM

"El Animal?" ...epic. So calling Jonathan that now.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:31 AM

My kid, coincidentally enough, was the exact same age as me. Which is to say, not a kid at all.

I do love that lunchbox, though.

[ jules ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:32 AM

*I* would've signed up for a Pap lunchbox. AND I would've used it ;-)

Look at this way. Who's gonna steal your lunch with that mug staring back at you?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:32 AM

He is officially now Jonathan "El Animal" Papelbon -- whether they were talking about him or not.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:32 AM

That is pretty hilarious and awesome :D

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:33 AM

The way they're saying it is pretty hilarious.
It's half English, half Spanish, and completely awesome.

[ jules ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:33 AM

Jonathan "El Animal" Papelbon
That is sooooooooooooooo perfect for Cinco Ocho.

Perfect.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:34 AM

He'll always be Cinco Ocho to me.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:34 AM

fc - I guess I count... I think I might join. But I really don't like the whole you-have-to-be-this-official-to-go-in-this-fanclub crap that the "official" Red Sox Nation goes by.

I really do want that lunchbox, though.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:35 AM

Holy shit Tek! You have redeemed yourself.

[ jules ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:35 AM

TEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad to see him hitting.

[ fc ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:35 AM

YEAH TEK!!!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:35 AM

C'mon, Coco! Let's get some hits. Sound good?

(I really want Street to pitch. Badly.)

[ fc ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:36 AM

Liza, I'm with you on that but for the right lunchbox...I can be bought.

[ *jen* ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:36 AM

Nice bunt, Coco!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:36 AM

I love Paint Shop Pro.

El Animal

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:36 AM

HA- Hannahan is having a mixed bag of a fielding day.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:36 AM

It took a muffed bunt off of Foulke, but Coco got on base!

Also: Hannahan is smoking hot.

[ jules ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:37 AM

Coco! That was an awesome bunt. Beautiful.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:37 AM

JEEZ. Like I said, mixed bag...

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:37 AM

Awesome, 1863!
You made that insanely fast!

[ *jen* ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:38 AM

Come on, Jacoby. Another RBI.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:38 AM

Good job, Coco! I could only imagine how pretty it was...

(Note to self: Google Hannahan.)

[ fc ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:39 AM

geez, Pedroia could fit IN a lunchbox. :)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:39 AM

Aww, thanks...

I've had PSP open all night because I've been lolcatting some pictures of Stanford kids from 2003-04. Sad but true.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:40 AM

Yes, yes he is.

C'mon, Jacoby, get 'em around home... just in case... or, you know, walk for Pedroia and Papi. That's fine too.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:41 AM

Is that the second or third time tonight Brown's robbed Jacoby of a hit, or is it just me?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:41 AM

...ooh, so that's Hannahan, eh? Not bad at all...

I'll stop being shallow now.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:42 AM

1863- The Chris Carter one almost made me spit out my drink. Hilarious!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:43 AM

Second time Liza

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:43 AM

Thanks - I was just really annoyed that the Chris Carter list was so shallow. I love him, too - but because he can hit, got his degree in 3 1/4 years and likes reading classical literature. That's what makes him awesome to me...

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:44 AM

That's more like it Paps!

[ jules ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:44 AM

One down.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:44 AM

El Animal is smokin' em tonight.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:44 AM

I definitely wasn't looking at those photos for the hotness of the players but they were pretty funny 1863.

Golden sombrero for BUCK.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:44 AM

Aah, they said the exact same thing on the radio! Golden sombrero indeed!

(And thanks, by the way...!)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:45 AM

Don't get me started on girlsoxnation. That shit is RIDICULOUS. And not in a good way.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:46 AM

I just noticed something. Texy your blog is on eartern time now. I had to look at the clock to make sure it wasn't 1:44 AM.

Cinco Ocho is throwing cheddar. 94-95 MPH.

[ fc ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:46 AM

PAP is BACK

[ jules ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:46 AM

damm! Two down.

[ *jen* ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:46 AM

One more, Pap!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:46 AM

Paps is on FIYAH. He's back to his standard intensity... that seemed to have been missing up until now.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:47 AM

El Animal es en fuego!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:47 AM

Exactly! They don't seem to understand that the game comes first! That's exactly why I made that macro...

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:47 AM

Yup - since I'm on Eastern time now, the blog is too. :)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:48 AM

how long til Texy picks up the Bostonian accent?

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:48 AM

With that GirlSox Nation thing, I'm really tempted to sort of disguise myself as a stupid fangirl and infiltrate their HQ to get a look at how stupid it is...however I feel like my brain will melt if I even attempt that ish

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:48 AM

Perfect, Meghan!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:48 AM

One strike away... C'mon, Jonathan Cinco El Animal Ocho Papelbon...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:48 AM

givem the ol number 1 rickey

[ fc ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:48 AM

LADIES and GENTLEMEN (cue song), WELCOME TO THE 2008 BOSTON RED SOX

[ *jen* ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:49 AM

Woohoo!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:49 AM

Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous. Beautiful 3-K 9th from El Animal.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 2, 2008 12:49 AM

Fuck yeah!

That was some strikeoutlicious pitching from the Sox tonight. How many Ks overall? Nine from the Dice, three from the Pap, I forget how many from the Okie...

Anyway, I am actually going to sleep now. For the, uh, third time.

'Night, everyone!

It's been a pleasure ladies. I'm off to write a recap of this game. I hate being a two team blog sometimes.

Until we meet again,

Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Alrighty, I'm off - Civil War stuff to study (Antietam...!). Catch you all next thread!

I have no problem with checking the players out - clearly I don't. I have no problem with girls who don't know a lot about baseball trying to learn more - everyone has to start somewhere. But I absolutely object to girls reveling in the pink hat nonsense (retch!) and proclaiming that all girls everywhere should only care about how hot the guys are and not about the game.

Because stats and math ARE HARD FOR GIRLS, y'all! Girls are silly and stupid and don't understand math! Baseball is too hard for our small minds! We'll leave all that "baseball" part of baseball for the menfolk.

Okay, not studying quite just yet, even though it's battlefield stats. Because baseball stats have me more occupied for a moment.

The only reason I was good at statistics in high school was my obscene obsession with baseball (and video games, but mostly baseball). And to be honest, I went through several years of not truly falling for any players at all (Jed Lowrie's the first player I've ever truly been in love with, and it took until college for that to happen). It was the game that drew me in first.

(Well, being raised in a baseball family helped a bit - my grandfather got an offer to play for the Yankees [which he stupidly turned down] and my great-aunt saw Jackie Robinson play in person.) That stuff probably encouraged me quite a bit in that direction. Everyone in my family loves the game, too, so why not me?

What's up with RemDawg wearing a leather jacket?

[ Texas Gal ] says:

Rem is trying to be hip with what the kids are wearing nowadays.

I'm surprised he didn't "mention" where he got it from.

I am so happy to see Daisuke (yup, he deserves his real name) so on point. Awesome performance. I hope it makes the headlines back home.

We're off for Oakland. Go Sox! I hope Lester has a great game and the rain stays away. So far it's cloudy, no rain.

I am watching the Yankees/Toronto game on ESPN right now, so this is off-topic, but I had to let TexasGal know that one of the commentators just referred to David Eckstein as a "little pest" because he's 5'6".

also, two fairly obvious observations:
1. Giambi is a terrible first baseman.
2. Mussina blows. he and Gagne should just quit and go drink somewhere together, cuz they both is DONE!
