I cannot take credit for breaking this news - Ian linked me to it first - but tomorrow is probably the night...if tonight isn't.

(is all giddy and pathetic!)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 6:52 PM

I've never been a big fan of the Indians. I totally hate the logo. I totally (and mostly inexplicably) hate the Grady Sizemore, too.

I am looking forward to seeing Lester pitch again, though...

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 6:53 PM

If I see any towels I 'll scream. Plus I hate the Indians cause their mascot is so offensive its not even funny

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 6:55 PM

Also, I think everyone who hasn't seen this yet kind of needs to - He of the Nonexistent Deadpan. (He makes the best faces, seriously!)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 6:56 PM

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Lowrie tomorrow, Lowrie tomorrow!!

Also, let's play guess-the-[expletive]: Ortiz texted Tito this morning saying "Put me in, [expletive]." Tito thought it was his daughter and got confused, so he asked whose number she was using, and Papi replied, "It's mine, [expletive]."

I'm going for "fucker" and "fucker" myself.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 6:56 PM

Wish there was a chance Travis Hafner wouldn't be playing tonight. He makes me want to hurl.

Alas, I know he'll be in the lineup. Oh joy.

Blech.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 6:59 PM

It's a very good thing Garko's been converted into a first baseman - he'd be able to set Jed up horribly (they played together for one year in college).

Of course, I think the switch may have caused him to lose the ability to levitate.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:00 PM

I love Jed Lowrie. I have no idea why. I can't wait to see him play tomorrow night.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:01 PM

I don't blame you for loving Jed one bit - I mean, I should talk. I have this incredibly pathetic tag on my LJ...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:02 PM

No offense at all, Erin, but I don't think anyone can love Jed more than 1863 does. :)

Coco's roster picture CRACKS ME UP. Oh man.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:03 PM

Ryan Garko makes me want to hurl rotten vegetables at his stupid face.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:04 PM

Hey all...just checking in. I'm beyond tired, so may not be running back and forth from bedroom to computer quite as much tonight, but will try to stop by again after awhile. SO glad to see Papi back in the lineup. Sending him major good vibes! :-)

1863, I love those pics of Jed that you linked. I don't blame you for being smitten -- he really is a cutie!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:05 PM

ecl, the woman who took those pictures is literally the best Sox photographer on the internet and possibly in the entire world. She's a genius with a camera!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:05 PM

Garko is said to resemble Fred Flintstone. LOL...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:06 PM

1863: I know. It didn't take me long to find her site. Great stuff. I'm looking forward to more, much more, as the season unfolds.

Time to run to the TV now...

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:07 PM

So exactly what was that little exercise with Papi?
Whatever it was, I like it!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:07 PM

Hmm, really? We can test the resemblance...

(The Diamond Angle. In terms of college baseball photos, it wins. They've got some of Huston Street in college, too...)

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:07 PM

Liza- Oh I know. Can I be in the top 5 of those who love Jed? He was a Poli Sci major right?

I was in NYC for Game 6 of the ALCS last year to see two musicals there. I was upset that I missed the game.

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:07 PM

I'm more hyped up for these two games than the NYY ones for some reason...go Sox!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:08 PM

How bad am I wishing I had NESN right now?? Lord give me the strength to endure another night of ESPN baseball.

Ooh....Beckett sighting. Okay, that was nice.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:09 PM

Yes, Jed was a political science major. AT STANFORD. HE IS VERY SMART, DAMNIT.

...and that's why I love him. He's an incredibly dorky genius. Did you see the list of people he wants to invite to dinner?

[ kristina ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:10 PM

i heard a rumor jed was playing tomorrow and thought of you 18!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:11 PM

I was way more afraid of Jake Westbrook during the ALCS than I was of Carmona.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:11 PM

I'm also a political science major but I go to school at UMASS Amherst.

I saw that list and I told it to my mom and she found it to be very interesting

I have a thing for smart guys so I guess thats why I like him so much also.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:11 PM

Can I be number three?

And ooh, ooh! -raises hand- "Ted Williams, just for the baseball, and then, life in general, Julius Caesar or the Dalai Lama."

...ahem.

Is it just me or do all the Sox boys seem to have bazillions of necklaces on now?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:12 PM

It's a sympton of Beckett-itis.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:13 PM

That's why I latched onto the kids who went to Stanford and play ball now - a few in particular (Jed, Sam Fuld, etc.).

And for those who haven't seen it, because I'm sure some people haven't, this just gets me...Jed's idea of a dinner party: Ted Williams, Julius Caesar and the Dalai Lama.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:13 PM

You know what I love about Remy & Orsillo? Rarely (if ever) do they call Dusty P "scrappy".

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:13 PM

TG - I was terrified of Jake Westbrook until I decided he's a dead ringer for Julia Styles, whereafter I just kind of giggled whenever I saw him.

Way to work the count, Dustin!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:13 PM

Maybe Josh is leaving them in everyone's lockers??

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:14 PM

Also, I think the world needs to know this:

MiLB.com: What is your greatest accomplishment, on or off the field?

Jed: Getting into Stanford. A lot of people think just because you're an athlete, they give you a free pass. But I worked hard in high school and got good grades and worked hard on my SATs.

Good boy, Jed. That's the best possible answer to that question.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:14 PM

Bethie, I wouldn't put it past him.

Let's go, Papi. Beat up on Westbrook for us.

[ kristina ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:15 PM

Liza, i think josh is handing them out saying "this will help you hit f@#$Ing balls" or "this will help you throw f!@#ing strikes"

[ jules ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:15 PM

Hey all, checking in for a moment. Working late, but at home.

Thank God in heaven for NESN--I miss Don and Remy after suffering through Fox and espn.

Go Sox.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:16 PM

YES! PAPIIIIIIII!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:16 PM

Nicely done, Papi! Look at that - one night off, and he's already hitting! It worked!

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:16 PM

YEAH PAPI. That's all we're asking for.

[ jules ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:16 PM

[ kristina ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:16 PM

PAPI!

The curse of the buried Papi shirt is broken!
(kidding)
(sort of)

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:16 PM

Holy Crap! Base hit for Papi!

YAY for mental health days!

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:17 PM

Since when is it no longer Jacobs Field?

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:18 PM

Since January or so when they sold naming rights to Progressive:-P

I want them to call it the Prog now!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:20 PM

I arrived at work this morning to a full color print out (with loads of pictures) of an article about "Jersey-gate". Courtesy of the resident MIS yankee fan the next cubicle over. Didn't get much of a response when I asked her if she knew how stupid the yankee universe looked freaking out about a damn shirt.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:21 PM

Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:21 PM

YAY YOUK!

[ Erin ] says:

YOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUK cheers in Cleveland. Awesome.

[ kristina ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:22 PM

yeah Youk!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:23 PM

Stay strong, Bethie. They're feeling the heat to keep up with the Joneses (us) now.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:23 PM

Nuuuuu, Henry! Stop striking out! (He's been bumped down to eighth in Iowa's lineup. I think the poor genius is slumping...)

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:24 PM

I just love how our boys wear down pitchers.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:24 PM

I saw the thing about Joba. I'm leaving a comment on Phil Hughes's blog, haha. It's the only way I know to reach him.

C'mon, Woodpecker! Tektektektektektektek...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:25 PM

I'm watching Homer Bailey right now. The PawSox had an early lead on him, but Louisville came back and our boys are losing 3-2 at the moment.

And Bobby Kielty is batting in the three-hole.

[ Trish ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:25 PM

It was like when the Sox fans were trying to find Babe Ruth's piano to break "the Curse." We need to trade off the asshattery to keep things interesting, you know. ;)

Aw, yay for Papi.

Okay, temperature, you can go down ANY TIME NOW, okay?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:25 PM

Graaagh, guys! You can't keep leavin' 'em loaded like that!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:25 PM

Kielty! Good for him. :)

Aw, Tek.

[ Trish ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:26 PM

Sure it's YOUUUUK and not BOOOOOO? The two sound very much alike.

(hit post too fast)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:27 PM

The game in Pawtucket was just called. We lose, waaaaaah.

Homer Bailey didn't look too bad, either. I can't wait to see him get called up...I'm excited about him.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:27 PM

yuck....Hafner. I wanna poke out his eyeballs.

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:27 PM

Well when Tek came up it was definitely "YAAAY."

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:29 PM

-gags slightly-

Strike him OUT, Lester. PLEASE.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:30 PM

Jon, walks aren't the way to start off a game.

Yes, ESPN, Youk is, in fact, a baseball player. Very good!

[ RedSoxChick ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:30 PM

I sent Papi some good vibes...single...I'll take that. Youk looks like he never left 3rd. That man is fantastic.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:30 PM

Youuuuuuuuuk!

But eew. Walk and on to second. :P

[ Negative Nancy ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:31 PM

here we go again. Walking batters starting off the game.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:31 PM

Pronk at the Prog.

He didn't do very well against us in the ALCS - but I suspect that will change.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:31 PM

I just don't like anyone on the Indians team. Garko anyone? Did he a have a follow up to that comment about champagne tasting better on the road after game 7 of the ALCS?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:31 PM

Lugo doing a little jig...interesting.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:32 PM

I got a weird random error a second ago. Huh.

[ Popular Peddie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:32 PM

No soup for you Pronk!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:32 PM

Erin - I think he's still waiting to find out what it tastes like. And waiting. And waiting.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:33 PM

Yay for outs. Good job, Jon!

[ Lester's Left Nut ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:33 PM

it's cold out here huh right nut.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:33 PM

C'mon, Lester. No sweat.

Youuuuuk! Again! The man is a natural defensive player...

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:33 PM

Our fielding does it again.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:33 PM

He he....Sizemore stranded.

[ Negative Nancy ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:34 PM

I heard that Jed Lowrie character is gay and wishes it was his ass being touched like that in the Dunkin Donuts commercial.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:35 PM

Has anyone here ever been to Townienews.com? Its a website where a guy talks about the Red Sox. If you haven't you should.

Great Job by Youk.

[ Popular Peddie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:35 PM

Jonathan Papelbuns can't act like me.

[ kirstina ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:35 PM

youk to casey is becoming my new favorite play...good job boys

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:36 PM

kirstina - youk to casey is great but i still miss mikey to youk.

[ Fitzy ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:36 PM

Yeah go visit my site and oh yeah Go Fuck Yourself :D

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:37 PM

Speaking of Casey...

Too bad the guy can't run.

Jed in tomorrow! Jed in tomorrow! START JED TOMORROW, Tito.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:37 PM

Hey, everybody! Sorry I'm late...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:37 PM

Anyone else smell a troll, or is that just me?

Eh, guess that means the popularity of this place is really taking off, doesn't it?

[ Lester's Left Nut ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:37 PM

Has anyone seen my right nut? I'm lonely.

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:38 PM

18: ignore.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:38 PM

Man Steph, a guy tries to have some fun and you call him a troll.

I;m a little hyper tonight so I apologize for having some fun. :D :D :D

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:38 PM

Hey Devils! Ya missed a run and a leaving-'em-loaded in the first.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:39 PM

I was beginning to think Jeter sneaked in here, til I remembered he and his quad were were back on the roster tonight.

Oh well, troll. Enjoy thyself.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:39 PM

Oh, Ian--the "Papelbuns" gave it away...

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:39 PM

Thanks for the update, Liza!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:40 PM

Erin i wore my GFY shirt to the doctor's once and he asked me what it meant so I told him it meant Go Fuck Yourself.

He was an Indian doctor so I don't think he got it.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:40 PM

Sorry, that's my fanfiction background coming back in. I was reading a really epic troll fic today...the ending of this just made me laugh so damn hard. Trolls are just on the brain right now. (They're so funny, aren't they?)

Coco's doing pretty nicely as a leadoff man so far. Hmmmm.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:41 PM

Awww, Dustin...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:41 PM

A friend asked me about Shoppach the other day, completely out of the blue. My reaction was, "You know who Kelly Shoppach is?" Then I remembered he's a huge Sox fan. Heh.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:41 PM

I figured someone would notice the Papelbuns.

Steph were you surprised to see me stop by your neck of the woods with the good news about Lowrie.

Just sucks though for him because his family won't be there tomorrow night. They will be in NY though.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:42 PM

Just getting here, all. What's this I see about 18's glory man tomorrow?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:42 PM

You totally made my day! I couldn't celebrate because my roommate was (and still is, damnit!) taking a nap. She's always asleep when I need to be the loudest!

They're going to NY to meet him for his birthday (Thursday!), actually. Is it wrong that I'm more excited about his birthday than my own?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:43 PM

Hi Texy we missed you during the epic comment night.

And damn it's cold out here too.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:43 PM

Tito's said he might start tomorrow. :D

"Terry Francona said he's not yet sure whether Lowrie will play third base or shortstop, though he did indicate that tomorrow (against Paul Byrd) would be a good time to rest Sean Casey. That's tough to do, since Casey has been swinging a hot bat, but Casey is 3-for-21 off Byrd with two walks, two RBI, and two strikeouts. All three hits have been singles."
--Extra Bases

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:43 PM

Oh...yes, my boy is supposed to start tomorrow. He'll make his debut then, unless he's inserted in the later innings tonight.

(is ridiculously giddy right now)

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:44 PM

Johnny not looking too bad tonight.

Ian, sorry about calling you a troll. Sneaky. :)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:44 PM

Ian is a troublemaker, I see.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:45 PM

Sweet! Would be nice to see him play, at least so 18 can get her fix. *winks*

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:45 PM

By the way, the only Cleveland Indians player allowed to get any hits is Victor Martinez since he's on my fantasy team.

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:45 PM

I think Ian's been drinking.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:45 PM

(turns several shades of crimson) ...I'm hoping so, too...

And more good news: his lack of any deadpanning ability is still intact as of last night.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:46 PM

Steph's traveling to somewhere tomorrow that's carrying the game on NESN.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:47 PM

Is anyone from New England? Or in New England?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:47 PM

The only thing Ian's been drinking tonight is Coca-Cola. It might have been the Dairy Queen blizzard that got me all hyped up too.

[ kristina ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:47 PM

Dice-k has the beckett hat on!

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:47 PM

I would love to see Jed hit a home run at his first at bat in the majors. But thats just me.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:47 PM

I honestly wish I could. Is MLB.com still doing that free trial of MLB.TV, by any chance? I'd go with it just for tomorrow...

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:47 PM

Raised in CT, couldn't wait to get to Boston.

[ 1863_project ] says:

That home run could be perfectly possible. Jed led the Pac-10 in homers as a sophomore and can still occasionally hit for power, as seen here.

[ njdevils ] says:

Not me, starlight.
I'm from the land of pork roll and high-population density. (aka New Jersey)

[ starr4 ] says:

Hooray for Steph and for Jed Lowrie's Major league appearance tomorrow. I was thrilled for you and for Jed when I heard the news this evening.

BTW, Steph, I reviewed the thread from yesterday and totally appreciated your Tardis reference!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:50 PM

I love how Youk tosses the ball to Lugo and Lugo gives it back to him.

[ Ian ] says:

They don't appear to be Steph but you can get it for a month at 14.95

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:50 PM

Construction state = CT right? When i was like five, I honestly thought that's what the license plates said since there was always construction everywhere.

[ starlightmusic ] says:

Only curious...sounded like there are a bunch of folks from PA, NY, etc...

[ starlightmusic ] says:

Think this guy is Bret Michaels' brother? He appears to have a longish blond mullet...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:51 PM

...it's kind of sad that the internet associates me with Jed. It really is. But thanks for the well-wishes, everyone!

Yay for someone else who knows what the TARDIS is, too! That makes me happy.

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:51 PM

I love how Youk...exists.

[ Texas Gal ] says:

Sorry I missed the Tardis reference yesterday. (I'm a 10th Doctor girl.)

Does anyone think the buried BoSox shirt created bad mojo for Papi?

I'm originally from Newington, CT home of fc, live in West Haven, CT now. I'm an aquarius and I like to watch sports. My other favorite things do are long walks on the beach and endless drives to know where.

Sorry, I thought this was the dating game. LOL :D

David Tennant! You have good taste, I have to say.

[ starlightmusic ] says:

Oh, Ian. You'd win. Are you the only male here? How smart of you.

[ Erin ] says:

Yes CT is the construction state since they are always doing some type of road construction.

In fact where I live on I-95 is in the midsts of a 10-year reconstruction project.

Dustin gets a BIG FAIL for wearing pleated pants. BOO.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:54 PM

(For those who don't know, this is David Tennant, and he makes some of the funniest facial expressions I've ever seen in my life. He plays the role in this certain quirky way that just works so well!)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:54 PM

"I DON'T BELIEVE IT IT'S JIM RICE."

Dustin seriously cannot act. Papelbum is better by a mile.

[ Texas Gal ] says:

Most people are all "9 + Rose 4eva", but I'm firmly in the 10 camp.

[ Ian ] says:

There have been other males here at times but for the most part I'm the only brave one to come every night :D.

I feel your pain, Ian. 95 is a nightmare..always has been, and I am assuming it always will be.

[ Texas Gal ] says:

He played Casanova. CASANOVA. Surprisingly, he was very believable.

(Tennant, that is - not Pedroia. Hee.)

[ Erin ] says:

Is it wrong that I change the channel when I see that commercial?

C'mon Davy!!!

Cool, Kristina. 1863's orginally from Jersey, too!

[ starr4 ] says:

Thank you, Texy. Cause those pleated khakis really are terrible. I don't think he dressed himself for that commercial. At least I hope he didn't cause it's all bad.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:56 PM

Seeing all these fans bundled up for some spring baseball reminds of me of my days working in the minor leagues in front of about 100 fans because it was too damn cold to be playing ball.

I think I may be the farthest north...New Hampshire. You know, that blot of trees and cows and foliage.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 7:59 PM

Yeah there a no sidewalks up where I live and the speed limit on that road is 40mph. So I'm in constant fear when I'm walking on that road (which I do everyday).

That being said the schools here are amazing and people are trying to save them from budget cuts.

Cancer montage. Doesn't anybody understand that all Jon wants to be is a baseball player? The cancer story is absolutely wonderful, sure, but Jon's trying to put that behind him now - he just wants to pitch.

Chris Cater went to Stanford also right?

Uh, Mussina went to Stanford I think.

[ 1863_project ] says:

Chris Carter? Yes. Got his human biology degree in 3 1/4 years!

ESPN can go fuck themselves for mentioning that. Ugh.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:11 PM

Erin - Yep, he did.

Steph - I did notice that...

[ Erin ] says:

Why did they mention that!?

Wow 3 1/4 years? Thats pretty cool.

[ Ian ] says:

Steph as broadcaster's they are allowed to talk about it. as fans we are not.

[ starlightmusic ] says:

Yay Tek! Nice!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:15 PM

Jed shots on NESN

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:15 PM

AHA! Is that him?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:15 PM

During Clay's...erm, run, Remy and Don talked around it the whole night. I have it on my iPod, and they keep using clever little euphemisms like, "All zeroes tonight for Baltimore!" and whatnot. I think Remy and Don are fans, too...I mean, Remy once did a 'homer inning.'

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:16 PM

JED IN THE DUGOUT!

He did a cute little bobbing up and down on the balls of his heels thing. I think it was to keep himself warm. It certainly looks cold there.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:16 PM

Starlight - if he looked like this, then yes, it was him.

He can't deadpan to save his life. It's hilarious.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:17 PM

Homer innings are the best by Remdawg

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:17 PM

If they talk about, it needs to be vaguely...like "retired all batters face except for one walk to Sizemore." Or go the Remy route and say "something special going on." You can never put the two words together though...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:17 PM

Wow, way to be comprehensible, Liza--I meant "balls of his feet."

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:17 PM

People, people - sshhh, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:18 PM

I heard about that website and I don't think I want to go there.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:18 PM

Lugo flipped that bat and helmet really, uh, violently.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:18 PM

It's kind of creepy, or so I've heard. Rumor has it there's a list where they try to insert the word 'hot' into everyone's name, which results in odd portmanteaus like 'Hotlio Lugo.' (Poor Lugo.)

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:20 PM

Eww that gross.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:20 PM

It's 40 degrees at the Prog right now. 36 with the wind chill.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:21 PM

I was stupid enough to LOOK at that site, and yes, they do have a page like that.

"HOTio Lugo", "Josh BeckHOT"... you get the idea. It nearly made me gag. =/

[ Hurricane ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:21 PM

Why is Becket wearing Oven Mitts??

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:21 PM

I just Googled it to get the link without going onto the site. Abandon hope all ye who enter here. (Oops, accidental pun - Chris Carter loves Dante.)

The sad bit is that when you search for it entries on my Livejournal in which I make fun of it come up, too.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:22 PM

Weak. Nothing like the TexGirl's entry about Beckett's personality change...and, again, can't get over that leprechaun. :)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:22 PM

So that would make my name Ian BeHOT.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:22 PM

I'm glad I never go there then

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:22 PM

Finally tearing myself away from the TV to check back in.

Wow -- quite a bat toss by Lugo! Dustin must be rubbing off on him.

Liza: Where is Hughes' blog? I too want to send some sort of good words to Joba.

So starlight is the farthest north...and I must be the farthest south, in NC, where it is currently as cold as Cleveland. I grew up in the NY metro, then lived in central NY during and after college before moving south to escape the harsh winters. I wouldn't mind moving back up north, though. I've gotten pretty tired of Southern culture after 20 years here.

[ Erin ] says:

This is all because they had to go and mention the no-no in progress on ESPN! I can't stand ESPN tonight - they ruined a no-hitter and they dissed Stanford on national television.

Even if it was in reference to him and not him, I'm still annoyed.

Is it wrong that I am listening to this to keep my sanity intact right now?

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:46 PM

What's up with the 1-2-3 on our offense? Damn it!!!!

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:47 PM

18: No Japanese tonight?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:47 PM

BOO TO RICE.

[ kristina ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:48 PM

what was that???

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:48 PM

Hook'em Horns.

Just for you Texy, I'll sport my 'Horns shirt tomorrow.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:49 PM

Actually, I'm studying for a test tomorrow, so yes, there is some Japanese tonight. I just really need to laugh right now...ESPN ruined the no-no and made fun of the school with the Tree to my face.

Also, if this doesn't make anyone feel better, nothing will.

(TG - YES. Rice was mean to Freshman Jed.)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:49 PM

Thank you. All longhorns everywhere - including Matthew McConaughey who was at the Yankees game on Saturday to root on the Sox - thank you.

[ mhcranberry ] says:

1863---

I'm trying to be productive tonight myself! Working on a research write-up... currently the citations are completely out of control...

Remind me what you're studying? and at what level?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:51 PM

No - BOO TO RICE because they knocked defending National Champion Texas off in the CWS in 2003. Twice.

Also, BOO TO RICE because they're Rice and I'm from Houston and BOO.

Is Gameday still frozen? I was trying to catch up on the details of the couple of innings I missed while catching up HERE...and the page won't load.

Bethie: I totally understand about the pollen. I'm saddled with major allergies myself. I could never live "down the mountain" like you do. WAY too hot for this thin Northern blood!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:51 PM

Just remembered I had no dinner. As soon as the inning's over, I'm running to get food...

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:52 PM

18: Yeah, the announcers are turds. I usually just block out their voices and ignore them... Screw them...Plus, guess who's starting tomorrow!!! :)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:52 PM

I be studyin' Japanese 102 right now. It's a small quiz, so I don't have to study too much...but waaaah. (I normally like studying, too, but Japanese is hard.)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:53 PM

...Jed is starting tomorrow.

(grins like an idiot)

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:53 PM

How's everybody tonight? I'm alright for the most part. Just annoyed at my immune system. I have to go to the damn RISD Art Museum so I can look at some stuff to work on a paper for. Then I have two classes, which is all well and good...except I'm developing a sore throat and I know I'm about a day away from feeling like complete shit. We're watching a movie in one of my classes so I think I may skip that one if I feel like complete crapola. Or sleep through the movie...we'll see.

This game isn't making me happy at the moment either...Jon Lester picked a bad day to be all stupid with the pitching.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:54 PM

Travis Hafner's stance makes him look like he's taking a dump.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:55 PM

Hi Piney. Having a nice day, I see.

C'mon, Hafner. GIDP, please.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:56 PM

Someone got Lester's pitch count?

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:57 PM

Never mind--NESN just showed it. 90 pitches.

[ mhcranberry ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:57 PM

This is not good. What's the deal, kid?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:57 PM

I was going to guess close to 90 since he was at 82 just a minute or two ago.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:58 PM

ecl: I see where you're coming from, cause I don't know how you make in up in the mountains. But since you lived up north, you're used to the cold. I can't tolerate it. Born and raised here, used to having 2 summers every year. Hot summer and oh-my-god-hell-is-cooler summer. :)

TG, I need your help. I know you have it posted somewhere but when I try to search for it my computer takes a dump. I need to get to the "How do you spell emphatic" Becket/Paps video. Can you possibly direct me to it??

That's what I call a pick me up. That or going through some press conferences. :)

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:58 PM

Um...why haven't they pulled Lester yet? This is ridiculous. WTH

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:59 PM

freddy krueger time

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:59 PM

Anyone know who's warming up in the pen?

[ mhcranberry ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:59 PM

they can't pull him until they have someone to go in for him. we do need at least one pitcher out there.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 14, 2008 8:59 PM

who's in the pen..?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:00 PM

Freddy Krueger is in the pen

That's right. Remind us just how damned great we are!

[ Katherine ] says:

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:02 PM

Why do I feel like things just went from bad to worse.

God I hope I'm wrong.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:05 PM

[ starr4 ] says:

Yo-Yo, way to go!
Talk to y'all tomorrow, got to get some other work done.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:09 PM

Piney: I hope you feel better soon. I think the early spring immune system stuff is going around. I've felt yucky for a couple of days now.

Ian: LOL about Hafner's stance. I've heard the same opinion about Pujols.

Bethie: The mountain climate suits me pretty well. Not too hot and not too cold. I've got MS, though, so when we get a prolonged hot spell (for us) in the upper 80s/low 90s I'm totally miserable. I can't even imagine dealing with the "two summers" that y'all have on the Piedmont.

And Yo-Yo comes through! Now let's get our lethargic bats to awaken!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:09 PM

I stand corrected.

Good job, Tavarez!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:10 PM

I love Yo-Yo. That is all. He's always fun to watch play just because he's so entertaining.

[ mhcranberry ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:10 PM

I know what it looks like when men are trying not to cry. That was it. Poor Jonny.

And look, in all seriousness-- and I don't mean this as an attack on him--but Lester in my opinion has been overrated for awhile now. His performance in Game 4 was exceptional-- in part because as a National League pitcher he'd be phenomenal. I'm just not convinced he's up there with the bad boys of the AL. (And I thought this before the WS too by the way, its not just because of tonight.)

Look, he's a great pitcher, love him to pieces, honestly. But I think people may have set up some unrealistic expectations.

Either way-- buck up, little buddy. Just one game.

[ 1863_project ] says:

Offense? The 2004 Pac-10 Player of the Year won the conference Triple Crown, y'know...

[ 1863_project ] says:

...I am trying way too hard. (But I can't wait for tomorrow...)

[ Anonymous ] says:

Tavarez

[ Erin ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:14 PM

Did I miss something? Was Jon really about to cry?

[ mhcranberry ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:14 PM

Interesting factoid:

Julian Tavarez, Tommy John, Morrissey and I all share the same birthday. And on the same day, in 1990, Microsoft released Windows 3.0.

So there you are.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:15 PM

Aw, Jonny... he did look really sad... And I don't think he's overrated, exactly, but I don't think he's the next Mike Mussina, either.

Owww, that looks like it hurt.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:15 PM

OUCH. Poor Youk...that looked painful.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:15 PM

OUCH!

I felt that all the way over here.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:16 PM

uhm..

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:16 PM

I totally snapped last inning.

Also, as much as losing sucks, Youk is always entertaining in rundowns. BUT NO.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:16 PM

Damn it! Now I'M gonna cry...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:17 PM

Aw, fug.

C'mon, Tek...

[ fc ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:17 PM

You gotta give him an oscar for that at bat though. I saw daylight between the ball and his arm.

[ mhcranberry ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:18 PM

Yeah it LOOKED painful... but that's about it. No way that actually hit him. Anyone else notice besides me and Remy and fc?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:18 PM

I actually wasn't looking. (sheepish grin) I just heard "And he hit him" on the TV, and that's all I know.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:18 PM

Looked like it grazed his elbow.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 14, 2008 9:18 PM

I thought so... but I wasn't gonna debate it.
