Gameday Open Thread: Indians 4/15

vs. Cleveland Indians
7:05 pm
Fenway Park - Boston, MA
SP: Tim Wakefield vs. Paul Byrd
tv/radio: NESN-Plus - MLB.TV - WRKO

I'd really like to know from Ryan Garko if the champagne he bought to celebrate their ALCS "victory" last year tastes as good flat, stale and unused as he thought it would taste "on the road" at Fenway.

Also, anyone notice anything out of the ordinary with tonight's starting lineup?

1. Coco Crisp, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Manny Ramirez, LF
5. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
6. Jacoby Ellsbury, RF
7. Julio Lugo, SS
8. Jed Lowrie, 3B
9. Kevin Cash, C

Use the comments to this entry as your own personal Gameday open thread. These open threads have been fun so far - so I'll keep 'em up as long as y'all are interested in having them.

LOL.

[ abby ] says:

Does anyone know how to listen to WEEI on the web without a MLB.com subscription?

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 15, 2008 6:49 PM

I don't think it is possible...MLB wants to make sure everyone pays to listen to out of market games so they prohibit the local stations from streaming it.

[ 1863_project ] says:

Front page of MLB.com. FRONT PAGE!

(beams with pride)

[ Erin ] says:

I can't wait to see Jed tonight!

[ 1863_project ] says:

I am literally short of breath right now. And waaaay too energetic for my own good.

...and wearing this

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 6:57 PM

18, I can see you grinning all the way from NC!

Abby, I know it's not WEEI, but in a couple of minutes I'll be trying my luck on on freebaseballradio.com, which link was so kindly provided to me a few nights ago by someone here. Just follow the directions on the home page. Good luck!

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 6:58 PM

ECL - Thanks! I saw that link the other night but couldn't remember what it was. I'm in my brother's dorm room and the school cable system doesn't get a NESN plus channel!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 6:59 PM

I actually caved and bought the monthly subscription to MLB.TV for this. I am so damn pathetic.

...but this is so worth it.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:00 PM

I'll be on in about an hour, when I'm forced to come back upstairs to watch the game.

see y'all then.

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:01 PM

I'm considering heading to a local bar to see it but for now, I'm happy with the radio.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:02 PM

Damnit, MLB.TV's only got the Cleveland broadcast right now! (cries) I wanted Remy and Don!

...I still get Jed. That's more important.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:02 PM

I'm just hoping to stay awake tonight.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:03 PM

The out of the ordinary thing Texy is the fact that Jacoby Ellsbury is batting 6th in the order, not the fact that he's playing right field.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:04 PM

JED JED JED JED JED JED JED

Stupid T delays... didn't get home until just now. UGH.

But--JED JED JED JED JED JED JED!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:04 PM

Steph, the road games you get the visiting announcers and home games home announcers obviously.

[ mhcranberry ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:05 PM

Not only is Ells batting 6th, but Coco is leading off when Ells is playing.

Maybe to get a little OBP action down there at the bottom of the order?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:05 PM

Yeah, I figured, but...waaaah, I miss Remy and Don. I've heard them before, and I'd have loved to have had them for the debut game...

...but I'm still happy as all hell.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:05 PM

Hello all. My computer is deciding to hate me tonight, so I don't even think I'll be able to watch the game through MLB.com. Boooo.

So much for money well spent, eh? :)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:06 PM

Coco deserves to be batting lead-off right now. he's getting the job done hitting around .340

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:06 PM

I'm also grinning like a madwoman. Seriously, what'll I be like when Justin Masterson debuts?

-hisses- ...Sizemore.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:06 PM

Abby: I'm almost to the bottom of the Red Sox list and haven't connected to anything yet. About to move over to the Cleveland list. If you find a station that works please let me know! Thanks.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:06 PM

cn8 is actually channel 9. THAT'S BETTER. ;D

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:06 PM

(screencaps the lineup for posterity!)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:07 PM

How many players are wearing the 42?

Coco is...

[ Ellen ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:08 PM

They said Ortiz is, too.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:08 PM

...dude, Jed could potentially throw out Ryan Garko tonight. (would crack up so bad if that happened)

Coco, Papi and Hale all have the 42 tonight.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:08 PM

Big Papi, Grady, and Sabathia along with Red Sox 3B coach DeMarlo Hale

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:08 PM

cn8 is channel 3 for me. Which makes total sense.

Also- despite the fact NESN put a BIG FAT graphic up telling me Coco was wearing Jackie Robinson's number, when the camera cut to him at bat, my first thought was still "Why is wearing #42?" Duh.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:09 PM

Thanks guys.

Dustin!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:09 PM

Ironically enough CN8 is channel 8 for me on Comcast.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:09 PM

that's one for dustin! WHOOT.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:09 PM

I'm still on slight delay...eh. But Coco looks way awesome with the 42 (except when he strikes out).

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:10 PM

ABBY! Cleveland page -- WSPD 1370 is carrying the game!

[ 1863_project ] says:

YAY DUSTIN!

Tonight shall be Pac-10 Night. Mark it!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:11 PM

...stupid shift.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:11 PM

Damn DP... (frown)

Suppertime...

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:11 PM

But we now get to see Jed at 3B now!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:12 PM

(is on about a two-pitch delay)

They mentioned Larry Doby! YES! He lived in Paterson, NJ! He just doesn't get the recognition he deserves...

...aw, crap. That sucked. But now I get to see our new stand-in third baseman...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:13 PM

I am absurdly excited for this half-inning.

Look! Look! It's him!

SHOW HIM, NESN!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:13 PM

...you can't imagine how badly I'm losing it right now...and it feels so damn good. (is giddier than she's been in months) I haven't felt like this since they won the World Series last year!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:15 PM

...and right now the feed decides to get all glitchy.

(murders the internet)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:15 PM

Abby: WKBN is better. The previous station I mentioned had some weird background sounds like there was a newscast going on at the same time as the play by play.

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:17 PM

Yay, thanks ecl!

[ fc ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:17 PM

Nice inning for Wakey!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:17 PM

C'mon, Wake...grounder to third...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:19 PM

IT KEEPS FUCKING FREEZING TO BUFFER. I DON'T FUCKING GET IT.

I HATE THE INTERNET.

Seriously, I have to keep restarting the feed to make it work. Is something wrong?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:19 PM

For those who like college baseball, this site has a lot of games on the net for free. It's best to use Internet Explorer for this.

http://channelsurfing.net/

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:19 PM

I missed the entire half of that inning. Well, I saw it, but in stop-frame motion.

...and now it seems to be working fine. No glimpse of him at all so far for me.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:20 PM

Did you install the Microsoft silverlight plugin?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:21 PM

A long time ago.

[ Ellen ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:21 PM

I hope you can get it straightened out before he comes up to bat!

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:22 PM

Crap, I just now got mine to load. I missed the entire first inning.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:22 PM

I think it's just that I'm on a college server and it's really busy. The video just keeps pausing to buffer every so often.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:24 PM

I'm just seeing Youk right now, for those with a television.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:24 PM

I actually don't use the Silverlight program because it freezes my browser up and use the old media player.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:25 PM

He just struck out in real-time, ftr. (Youk, that is.)

Byrd, unfortunately, looks really good.

Jacoby! Let's goooo!

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:25 PM

c'mon, ells!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:25 PM

C'mon Jacoby...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:25 PM

Josh's rocking the knitted hat look again.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:26 PM

Oh well.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:26 PM

Frick. Ing. Gra. Dy. Size. More.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:26 PM

oof. this is moving wicked quickly!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:26 PM

How do I get to the old media player? This is what it looks like for me now.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:27 PM

I had to removed Microsoft Silverlight cause it just would not work with my computer. That should take you back to where you can choose the old media player or download the new one.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:28 PM

...end of the inning screen. I had to reload the program again...

I think after I see him I might switch over to the radio, just because this is becoming a pain in the ass.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:28 PM

Gee, at this rate the game will last less than 2 hours...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:29 PM

It's easy Steph. Uninstall the silverlight program in your add/remove programs.

close your browser and restart it. then go here

http://mlb.mlb.com/mediacenter/index.jsp#20080415

and then choose the Red Sox game at 400K

that may help you. I'd do it at the end of the inning so you don't miss much. or wait until after jed comes up next inning

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:29 PM

I could really use a 2-hour game after the marathons we had the last two nights.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:29 PM

is the infield dirt weirdly red for you other viewers or should i be concerned about my tv (or my version of cn8) ... ?

OH HEY NICE CATCH PEDEY!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:29 PM

Wow. Really quick indeed.

(JED NEXT INNING JED NEXT INNING)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:29 PM

all y'all need to stop talking about the length of the game. it will make it go longer :D

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:30 PM

Wake always seems to work pretty fast.

And BOO for the hit.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:30 PM

... and jed now has a dirty uniform. NICE.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:31 PM

Jenny it's red here too.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:31 PM

No, jenny - it's a bright red-orange for me, too.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:31 PM

He was nowhere near that pitch...

Haha. Wake's pickoff throws must be about 50 mph.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:31 PM

Hi all. Umm....seriously. What's up with the Bruins' game? Appears I won't get to see Jed make his grand debut (and provide support for 18)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:31 PM

...he does?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:32 PM

Abby, me too. Even with a 7:05 start, I could stand to be all ramped down by bedtime if tonight's game is half as exciting as last night. And don't forget, we'll probably have another marathon tomorrow night.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:32 PM

Currently removing Silverlight to fix this buffering issue...

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:32 PM

I managed to locate a radio so I'm listening to WRKO, and they just floated the idea that the Yankees buried the Ortiz shirt themselves. It also cost $30,000 to remove the shirt from the concrete.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:32 PM

Games on NESN Plus starlight. Texy's got a link at the top to NESN plus channels.

Hehe! Garko is out.

I WANTED THAT TO HAPPEN SO BAD.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:34 PM

Bethie may be the only one here who would understand that comment.

[ 1863_project ] says:

[ Texas Gal ] says:

Aww, Jed. It's ok. Good at bat.

[ Texas Gal ] says:

Nice crotch grab, Jed.

[ Liza ] says:

Aww! Poor Jed.

Byrd is really going now. 4 Ks in 3...

[ 1863_project ] says:

...and I very pathetically cried a little. I'm so proud.

[ Meghan ] says:

Bethie -- LOL about the pottery class. I have this memory of a friend from NY coming to visit the area and looking at me in amazement and saying "The dirt is RED!!!"

Sheeeeeiiiiitt. Sorry, 18.

Damn doubleplay. And the Cleveland announcers are crowing about it. grrrrr

[ starlightmusic ] says:

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:44 PM

How's Jed doing?

has 1863 exploded with joy yet????

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:45 PM

I wonder if the Cleavland announcers are saying anything about it now?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:45 PM

(switches over to the radio) I saw what I needed to see, and that's good.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:45 PM

I made my brother a hemp belt back in HS. Maybe i could make one for BecKett, only with a big fat Texas style buckle.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:46 PM

C'mon, Wake. Get a DP back on them.

[ Bethie ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:46 PM

Cleveland announcers having orgasms over that double play.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:47 PM

That's better. Current gameplay.

...is it sad that I cried because he was up? Because I think it is a little bit.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:47 PM

No, 18, it's glorious!

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:48 PM

The Cleveland announcers are waxing poetic about the double play and the Sox announcers are waxing poetic about cannoli. Hmm.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:48 PM

Too bad it wasn't really a double play.

[ Ellen ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:48 PM

[ Meghan ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:48 PM

i didn't mean to complain about the speed of the game earlier, honest. i swear.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:52 PM

Woooo Ellsbury. Am I talking to myself?

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:53 PM

Jenny, I know. We did jinx it.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:53 PM

Oh nevermind :)
GO Wakeywakey! Wow that's annoying.

Oh crap Blake.

[ ecl1958 ] says:

18: Nice screen cap. :-)

Abby: I'll take the cannoli, thanks!

[ Liza ] says:

C'mon, Wakey. Strand 'em there.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:53 PM

I want this game to crawl, in that case.

More Jed time for me, too.

Blake = NO.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:54 PM

ecl - Awww, thanks! It made me cry a little...

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:54 PM

I know, they're making me hungry. At least they've stopped talking about them.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:54 PM

It's so sad to see so many empty seats. Where is your pride Cleveland?

C'moooon timmeh.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:55 PM

(wishes she could be in Cleveland right now) Empty seats, and yet I could be there watching him in person.

Stupid life getting in the way again. On the other hand, I've got that screencap now! (melts)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:57 PM

18, I know how it is. When they played in Japan and my special faves came up for the first at-bats of the season, I cried a little.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:57 PM

Oh, Steph. You are so pathetic (but in a good way!).

That being said, I'd love to be there, too--so long as there weren't any towels, anyway.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:57 PM

re: screen cap...I think some photoshopping is necessary, Steph. Go ahead. Add yourself!

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:57 PM

WOOOO WAKEY!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:58 PM

Nice, Wakey!

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:58 PM

Sweet!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:59 PM

Yeah, it's odd that there are empty seats. It's just under 50 degrees per the Gameday page. Not bad for April in Ohio. The announcers just said that the attendance is better than last night, though.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 7:59 PM

Sad. If it were Fenway, it'd be packed.

[ kristina ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:00 PM

nice job timmy, i'm really trying to get some work done tonight...dam progress report writing is getting in the way of my baseball watching

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:00 PM

I...generally don't stoop to the whole self-inserting stuff...I mean, I come from a fanfiction background, and I can't stand Mary Sues so it kind of just...

We'll wait for the real thing when I go to Pawtucket later this year and try - I stress the word try - to talk to him in real life.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:00 PM

Oh c'mon Crisp, I believe in you!

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:01 PM

18- Mary- Sues piss me off

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:01 PM

No, no, no...there is no try, only DO.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:01 PM

you know, or not.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:01 PM

Oh, yeah...and who's Mary Sues?

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:02 PM

Kristen: what do you teach?

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:02 PM

do or do not...there is no try, ahaha.

peeeeeweeeee.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:03 PM

Starlight, here's the Sue article on Wikipedia. In short, they're fan-created characters who pretty much exist so the author can pretend she's getting laid with her favorite character. And they're always perfect.

I can't stand them.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:03 PM

Ahoy-hoy everybody. Better late than never, eh? School was school but I got out before anything else could happen. I'm glad to see good ol' Carlson playing tonight(I love that his middle name is Carlson and I love that he's also Swedish(what? I'm half Swedish so I enjoy it!))

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:03 PM

PAAAAAAPPPIIIIIII

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:03 PM

I only read them for good laughs.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:04 PM

Mary Sues are basically what is going to happen in the next 1000 Jacoby Ellsbury related Red Sox fanfics, if people decide to write them(and they will. Believe you me)

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:04 PM

come on coomme oooon big papi.

WOOOOOOOOO

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:04 PM

Erin, have you ever read a fanfiction MST? I used to butcher Suefics that way...it was fun as hell.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:05 PM

Yay Papi....

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:05 PM

Hahaha, an Ellsbury fanfic.

What would that go like?

Mannyyyyy.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:06 PM

Nice, Papi! Nice! Woohoo!

There's a surprising amount of baseball fanfiction out there. It stunned me a little when I first found it, but...yeah, I suppose it was due to happen.

Ugh, double play...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:06 PM

Starlight, you took the Sues question right out of my mouth. And now I know.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:07 PM

18- No I haven't. The ones i read are the Lord of the Rings ones. Tolkien must be rolling over in his grave due to those stories

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:07 PM

I had no idea there were baseball fanfics out there.

Yay Papi! I switched to Gameday so I'm a little behind.

I wonder if we'll see the (un)buried shirt work it's magic tomorrow?

Ooooh we're back.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:08 PM

Oh, so someone inserts a character that basically represents herself and so forth. Or even just a "perfect" character? Sounds pretty lame...
I didn't realize it was an entire phenomenon. You have my apologies. So, don't Mary Sue. Instead, make that screen shot your desktop background. :)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:09 PM

Oh, poor Tolkien. That was actually the canon I used to work in, actually! Legolas...poor kid.

Here's a great example of an MST. It's in an anime fandom (InuYasha), but it's quite readable. And funny.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:09 PM

c'mon, wakey. hang in there so we can get the bats out for you ...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:10 PM

Oh, and just because - the Baseball Fanfiction Archive. It exists.

(Be careful, though - a lot of it is slash.)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:11 PM

Garko! I want Jed to throw him out again! That made me laugh so damn hard...

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:12 PM

Surprisingly, there's no Ellsbury.
But there is Sizemore (obviously).

Ooooh haha I have to see the Mirabelli one.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:12 PM

Kristina: Excellent choice of career.

Damn...two base hits...urgh.

Where's the best place to find baseball fanfic? I did a little Googling and didn't find all that much.

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:12 PM

The Sox fanfic authors seem to really like Varitek...

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:13 PM

Am I the only one who finds real person fan fiction odd?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:14 PM

I suggest either the Baseball Fanfiction Archive (which I linked to above) or one of several Livejournal communities.

(If you're into slash, there's this community. But slash isn't for everybody.)

[ kristina ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:14 PM

thanks ecl...yay for April vacation next week!
nice job stranding them again wakey...now it's time for some hits!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:14 PM

The only reason I'd do any fictional writing related to baseball was if I created a new team with entirely fictional players. I've considered writing a story where the Pirates move to Boston... but with completely made-up people and management, etc.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:14 PM

lowrie to pedroia - inning over.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:15 PM

Ooooh my goood. Hahahaha I'm laughing. The Mirabelli one is a slash with Varitek. It's really funny. Hahaha I'm still laughing.

[ kristina ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:15 PM

i like how it's a little under 50 degrees in clevland and Josh is wearing a winter hat and gloves =)

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:15 PM

Youuuk

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:15 PM

Erin - no, you're not. I've always felt a little weird about it myself - I find fictional people are easier to write. RPS can get really...awkward. (If I write about real people, it never goes beyond a drabble. And I do it very rarely.)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:16 PM

Ah Steph, yes, I found that one already. And I'm no prude by any stretch of the imagination so don't have a problem with slash. My mind is often in the gutter anyway. ;-)

Jade, I'm sure there will be plenty of Ellsbury stories in due time.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:16 PM

...Jed to Dustin...

(mind goes blank)

...Pac-10 All-Conference...YES.

Yes, they're both young, speedy center fielders. They're good looking fan favorites. But UGH.

Yeah, Jacoby! Nice running.

[ Piney61 ] says:

Erin -- yeah it is a little weird. When I write(and when I do it's basically under lock and key in my journal) It's all stupid humor and usually is just involving inside jokes and just dumb stupid humor that isn't meant to be taken seriously.

Hey guys I've been meaning to ask you guys -- you guys ever had any really really weird Red Sox related dreams? I had a really funny dream just last night about Mike Lowell hosting a dance contest. He didn't participate(at least not until the end) and the kicker: they were on rollerskates.

Odd thing is that this may not be teh weirdest Red Sox related dream I've had.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:25 PM

...holy shit, I can literally feel my heart thudding in my chest without putting my hand over it.

I'm really pathetic tonight. (enjoys it anyway!)

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:26 PM

I can never remember my dreams....

Wakesterrrrrr. How many nicknames could one come up with for Wakefield?

NOOOO SO CLOSE ELLSBURY.

[ Ellen ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:27 PM

Last night I dreamed that Papelbon was running a ride at a carnival.

But didn't ML actually host a dance contest back in Florida? Only without the rollerskates. LOL

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:27 PM

Piney - I once had a dream I met Jacoby Ellsbury's younger brother (the one about my age). I can't remember how, but it involved an umbrella in the outfield at Fenway and a pink shag rug...

Aw, Jacoby, what was that?

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:27 PM

I had a dream that I was nominated for a Tony Award(I'm a big Broadway' fan) and my date to the Tony's was Clay Buchholz. I also won.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:27 PM

Ellen: Yeah he did, haha. He won, didn't he?

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:28 PM

According to Gameday, the top of the 5th only had 1 out. Oops.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:28 PM

Erin: Did you win the Tony?

Go away Sizemore. Just go away.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:29 PM

Piney, I've had two very, very bizzare dreams involving the Sox..

one had something to do with Jacoby riding around on a snow mobile at some sort of party in the clubhouse. He was telling us all to eat lots of fruit, because fruit is good for you.

the other I'm not so sure I'm ready to share..

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:29 PM

Erin, that's a fabulous dream. Clay in a tux and at the Tonys? Awesome.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:29 PM

My husband told me I was talking in my sleep the other night. Said something like, "Be careful! Watch out fo the Papelbon pictures all over the floor. Can you take care of them?" Strange. I think he was just glad I wasn't dreaming about Beckett.

[ Ellen ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:29 PM

I think he did win Jade.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:29 PM

Ellen -- that was how the dream even came in my head I think...I should also add that Red Sox players participated in the dance contest on rollerskates...it was like Xanadu except more cracked out because it involved Red Sox players.

I also dreamt once I was dancing in my car to the "Safety Dance" with JD Drew and being laughed at by Pedroia and then I had one where my friend saw Alex Cora, Mike Lowell, and Dustin Pedroia at an Evanesence concert(I know, weird)

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:29 PM

Ooooh wait you said you won. Sorry. I'm dumb. Well congratulations on your win.

Timmeeeeh.

[ Liza ] says:

ecl - you're not the only one. I like a good nefarious story. I like the slash but I'm just wary of RPF.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:34 PM

I've never seen a Broadway show. I want to really badly.

Oh God now I'm gonna have a nightmare about the Indians' logo with all this dreams talk...and the fact that they're logo kinda scares me.

GO WAKEY!

[ 1863_project ] says:

I can't stand Cleveland's logo. It's so damn racist.

[ abby ] says:

The stage show was a million times better than the movie. I never saw the B'way version but did see it when they came on tour to Boston.

[ starlightmusic ] says:

rpf?

[ starlightmusic ] says:

I'll be seeing Sheer Madness tomorrow in Boston. Field Trip. Should be interesting...

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:35 PM

18- I also find Cleveland's logo racist

[ 1863_project ] says:

RPF = real person fiction.
RPS = real person slash.

I've heard Sheer Madness is awesome!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:

I saw Jesus Christ Superstar when I was about 6..

-Oh, no Wake..

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:36 PM

Yeah I thought the logo seemed kind of offensive, but I'm not Native American so I wouldn't know.

NOOOOOO.

Ellsbury said he wasn't offended by it, but who knows.

Logo: yeah...you'd think they'd have changed it by now...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:36 PM

Abby - Did you go in January or February or whenever that was, of this year? I went then! (I also saw Anthony Rapp when he spoke at Northeastern a month ago or so. AMAZING.)

C'mon, Wake. He keeps loading the bases... at least he's getting out of the jams.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:36 PM

(swallows nervously) I do not like this situation.

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:36 PM

RPF stands for real people fiction, I think. Something like that.

I missed Avenue Q in its run in Boston. Very sad. But I did make it to Wicked. I knew all the songs by heart but had no idea how they fit together before I saw it.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:36 PM

Uh oh redux...

C'mon guys...

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:37 PM

Sheer Madness is great!

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Steph, I don't remember my dreams either. Yeah, I wish I would have some about...never mind...

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:38 PM

knuckleball, cmon. Double play, PLEASE

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:38 PM

I'm pretty sure I saw Rent in 2001. I wish I'd seen it when it was here in Jan/Feb - my friend was running the sound board.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:38 PM

I saw Wicked w/ Taye Diggs.

I've seen Jersey Boys twice and was able to go backstage once.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:38 PM

uhm.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:39 PM

Oh, fug.

[ Jade ] says:

[ Ellen ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:39 PM

foo.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:39 PM

The radio folks just scared me. They got too excited about a foul.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:39 PM

...I don't like those comments I see...

FUCK IT.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:39 PM

Abby, depending on the subject of the RPF I don't mind it at all. ;-)

NOOOOOOOOO! Urgh.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:39 PM

Seriously having Beckett withdrawals. Everytime they show the dugout I hold my breath. I'll just have to settle for the pic at the top of the blog after I post an entry...*crosses fingers and hopes for Beckett*

Oh, and WTH Wake!

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:40 PM

Come on, Wake.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:40 PM

Aardsma in the pen..

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:40 PM

Erin - YOU SAW TAYE DIGGS? Aaaah! I love him.

Also, on the note of the Cleveland logo, I HATE it. Passionately. Like... just... wow. No.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:40 PM

Erin: For a second I thought you meant you went to see Wicked WITH Taye Diggs. Like he accompanied you. Haha. I would have been quite jealous.

Please, redeem yourself Wakey.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:41 PM

YES. Yay Jed!

(Boo, runs.)

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:41 PM

okay That's a bit better Wakey....now offense -- pick him up!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:41 PM

I too find Cleveland's logo...utterly offensive. And somehow their fans don't get why.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:41 PM

Good, Pac-10 boys. Good. Back up the starter.

...uuuugh.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:42 PM

Jade- lol. No the leading actor hurt himself and had to have surgery. Taye Diggs came in to do the role for a few months. His wife was the lead and it was great to see them on stage together

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:42 PM

Hey, it was an all-farm-system DP!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:43 PM

Wait, Erin - YOU SAW TAYE DIGGS AND IDINA MENZEL AS FIYERO AND ELPHABA?!

(If you say yes, I'll die of jealousy.)

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:43 PM

You saw Rent with Taye Diggs AND Idina Menzel?! I'm very jealous.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:43 PM

And the kids who did the turning two bit of it played against each other in college, yaaaaaay!

I heart that conference.

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:43 PM

I meant Wicked, not Rent. Sorry.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:44 PM

Gameday is acting up again.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:44 PM

Good eye, good eye. (Minus the foul he just got).

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:44 PM

By the way, sorry about the thread hijack, people who don't care about theater.

Jed! Aww. He's chewing a wad of gum about the size of his fist...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:44 PM

...oh, Jed, you dork. I love you.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:45 PM

DARN YOU!!!!!!

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:46 PM

Beautiful catch...but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Cmon, Dusty!!!

[ Erin ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:46 PM

He was ok. I wanted to see it w/ the original actor (Norbert Leo Butz) But I saw Norbert in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels which he won the Tony .

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:46 PM

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:47 PM

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:48 PM

I like Norbert Leo Butz more than Taye Diggs, actually.

Come on, Manny!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:49 PM

Hi Ian.

Too bad about that. The bats need to wake up...

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:49 PM

I take that back.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:49 PM

I'm actually kind of shocked Papelbon hasn't caught it yet.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:50 PM

[ Erin ] says:

I really miss New York when I'm out in PA.

NYC = Good.
NYM = my family's team. Anti-Steinbrenner allies.
NYY = EVIL.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:51 PM

18: Oh ye of little faith! We have time!

(Except that I was telling that to everyone when we had one second left in the superbowl...)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:51 PM

Rent was going to close on my birthday until they extended it...

C'mon, Wakey. Let's get out of this one quickly.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:52 PM

I bet they extended it just for your birthday :)

Eggs and bakey...

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:52 PM

are you okay?

[ 1863_project ] says:

Jed threw out Garko AGAIN! (dies laughing)

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:52 PM

NO LUGO! Poor Lugo...

[ kristina ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:52 PM

Tex, i agree with the comment yesterday that Josh is probably secretly leaving one in everyone's locker....my guess is with post-it notes and a few choice words =)

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:52 PM

Lugo. Booo.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:53 PM

...oh, shit. What's the deal with Lugo? Crap.

...Jed's visit to the bigs may have just been extended.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:53 PM

What's going on...this doesn't sound good. Someone please tell me what's going on with my little guy...

[ abby ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:53 PM

I love Subliminal!Beckett.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:

[ Ellen ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:54 PM

Out! Yes!

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:54 PM

Well if your little guy is Lugo then he just had a bad catch that hurt his leg but he's alright.

And Cash got us to 2 outs....and gutierrez is on first.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:54 PM

Yay for outs! Nice, guys!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:55 PM

Josh wrote that in his journal. Buy hemp necklaces for team. Leave in locker with post-it notes of encouragement. For the rookie pitchers, the post-it notes say tell the press you need to execute your pitches better or you executed your pitches nicely tonight.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:56 PM

Woooop! Let the 7th be better than the 6th...

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:56 PM

Pap can only wear the hemp necklace if he can spell it. Can you imagine Schilling with one? HAHAHAHA

[ Liza ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:56 PM

I hope Lugo's going to be okay...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:57 PM

Whew...thanks, Coco.

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:57 PM

Who'll be the first rookie to talk about executing pitches?

[ kristina ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:57 PM

Ian, you forgot, "i don't get paid to make those f@#$*n decisions"

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:57 PM

Clay already has Jade

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:58 PM

I use to sport one in high school. Didn't take it off until it fell apart. I'd like to make another, but meh...people will think I'm just doing it because of Beckett. Which I'm not. Not at all...

[ kristina ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:58 PM

i can picture schilling wearing one just because we know how he feels about Mr. Beckett

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:58 PM

who's the donut lover on the mound?

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:59 PM

Oh really? Darn, I missed that. I haven't seen too many conferences or interviews recently.

Youuuuk.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:59 PM

Me. Oh, wait....

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:59 PM

(is hoping for Jed to do a presser tonight) He debuted - they'll make him do one, won't they?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 15, 2008 8:59 PM

I like 4-pitch walks. Thanks Jorge

[ Jade ] says:
on April 15, 2008 9:00 PM
