Am I first!

:: waves hi ::

Thank God in heaven, it's FRIDAY!

This will be the first game all week I can actually watch.

Can't wait.

Hey everyone!

[ 1863_project ] says:

One-third of tonight's lineup played against each other in college, and that amuses me to no end.

I am obsessed with that conference. It's ridiculous.

Greetings! I'm just leaving the office so will miss the first pitch, but will be ready to join the festivities as soon as I get home and fire up the computer.

I see Jed is in the game tonight. Steph is doing the happy dance for sure! :-)

Could one of the audiostream listeners please post a link so I don't have to search all over freebaseballradio.com? Thanks! Be back soon...

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:01 PM

helloooo!

[ jules ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:01 PM

18: Jed is starting at SS.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:01 PM

i'm psyched to see jed at third. eee. so much to look forward to!

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:02 PM

... i meant short. i'm psyched to see jed at shortstop. IDIOT ME.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:03 PM

I am, too! I've been giddy this whole afternoon, and I decided to stay in to write a paper that's not due for weeks so that I'd have an excuse to be here.

Granted, I will be busy this weekend (playing Victorian baseball) and next weekend (family down here for my birthday), but...it's kind of pathetic that I'm doing this.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:04 PM

Is it wrong that I almost flipped out when I saw that Jed was starting tonight?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:04 PM

No. It's not. I actually did flip out.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:05 PM

i'm still totally in "there is baseball on my tv therefore i am busy" mode. ;D usually it wears off, but man ... i might just stay here in front of nesn between now and the end of october. I LOVE THESE GUYS.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:06 PM

I can afford to miss games...but only if Jed's not up with the big club. His presence makes me stay around and write essays.

(If I ever meet him, I am totally telling him that I stayed in and wrote essays so I could listen to him on the radio. He'd understand the 'writing essays early' bit, at least.)

[ jenny again ] says:

on April 18, 2008 7:09 PM

Victorian baseball? That sounds interesting.

Damn! I'm liking this Atarashii (New) Daisuke...really liking him.

[ Daniele ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:10 PM

Hey everyone! Happy Friday!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:10 PM

Oh, yeah - I'm a Civil War reenactor, and since a bunch of prospective students will be on campus tomorrow we're playing baseball by 1860s rules to help convince them that this college is awesome.

I have to wear my corset, though. Owwwwww.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:11 PM

YAY FOR 'HOOKS FOUL'! :: gulp ::

[ jules ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:12 PM

baseball and corset. That doesn't sound like fun.

This Hamilton has quite a story. I hope he stays clean.

[ 1863_project ] says:

(enjoys doing reverse Carlton Fisks to get the ball to go foul)

[ jenny again ] says:

dice-KK!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:13 PM

I don't think I'll be able to field too well, so I'll probably volunteer to catch again, like I did last time. And I've been working on Baltimore Chopping because I don't know how I'll swing in my constricting dress...

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:16 PM

Just joining in. Hi all!

Yay Dice-K! Yay Jed! Does that mean Lugo is out tonight? (*crosses fingers hopefully*)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:17 PM

Lugo is indeed having an off-night.

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:17 PM

Doesn't he have those EVERY night?

[ Erin ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:17 PM

I wonder if Jed will get a warm welcome tonight in Fenway.

[ jules ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:18 PM

Finally.

let's hope Diasuke has a better 2nd.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:19 PM

I hope he does - he tied the team record for debut game RBI (with 3), so they ought to be nice. And if they're not they'll hear from me.

Good job, Sean!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:20 PM

[ jenny again ] says:

[ Danielle ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:27 PM

ec: I've tried them all and none had the game. I 'll try again when the second innnig starts.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:29 PM

Awww, it's David Murphy! (misses him and Kason)

If only Clay vs. Kason wasn't going down when I'm in class...

[ Erin ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:29 PM

jenny- I know! I don't understand why people need to put TVs in their cars. When I was younger my siblings and I just did Mab Libs on long car trips and that was entertaining for us

[ Erin ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:30 PM

Is it wrong that I have a crush on Frank Catalanotto?

[ jules ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:30 PM

I'd love a 40G hard drive in my next car so I can put my music on it and leave my iPod at home. THAT would be awesome.

Let's go Dice-KK!

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:32 PM

Mad Libs ROCK! Try this one: Finally, (Red Sox Pitcher) takes the mound. He (verbs) his hips and rocks back for the (noun). The execution is (adjective), knocking the batter (direction). Again, no (adjective) (noun) stands a chance against the (adjective) (Red Sox Pitcher).

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:32 PM

When is somebody going to be thrown out 6-3?

Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself...I'd prefer some more Daisuke strikeouts. But...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:34 PM

Oh, Mad Libs...there are even online ones now! My brother and I used to fill them in as inappropriately as we could. He and I could get pretty damn sick...

As far as online Mad Libs go, fill this in to get the slash pairing of your choice together.

[ jenny again ] says:

manny's hair looks like a totally wacky wig. i cannot believe he grew that himself. i kind of love it.

Hi all....I'm looking for some cute t-shirts or tank tops for my nieces birthday. She is a big Beckett fan (just like her auntie!). Anyone know where I can find something cute and different? I checked chowdaheadz and mlb.com already.

[ 1863_project ] says:

(is writing a Mad Lib starring Aaron Hill and Russ Adams right now because she can and feels like putting off her paper)

[ Erin ] says:

I have a niece thats 3 so there goes my idea.

I thought I saw some shirts that were Beckett related on chowdaheadz but I might be mistaken.

[ shark ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:49 PM

I thought I had, also. But, when I looked, there wasn't anything.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:50 PM

...Daisuke. NO. I will curse you out.

(yes, I do know some 'choice words' in Japanese)

[ Piney61 ] says:

ONLINE MAD LIBS FTW!

Also, hello everybody. Can someone please tell Daisuke to stop being a whore pitching-wise.

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Steph, that on-line Mad Lib was pretty funny!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:52 PM

I just finished writing one now - I'm about to post it on my LJ. It's about Aaron Hill and Russ Adams.

Damnit, runs suck.

[ Erin ] says:

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:54 PM

Mad Lib posted! Aaron and Russ get attacked.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:55 PM

TG- That one is much better than the one I found on chowdaheadz.com

[ shark ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:55 PM

YES, TG...I forgot about those!!!! How can I get them? I want both

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:56 PM

Edited the Mad Lib slightly - the grammar sounded a bit weird in one or two places. Whoops!

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:56 PM

dice-KKK!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:56 PM

Yay, Daisuke! Do that more often!

...Jed is up this inning. (is a happy puppy)

[ shark ] says:

I see how to order the Team Beckett T, how about the one on top? I love it!

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:58 PM

18: I love the blue cranial love going on in that Mad Lib. =]

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 7:59 PM

Blue cranial love ftw.

I took a course in anatomy in high school, hence the really random body parts like 'sphincter.'

[ jenny again ] says:

Does anyone else think that Sean Casey looks like Russel Crowe?

[ Abby ] says:

Erin - I love Frank Catalanotto. We have the same birthday.

And 18 -when's your b-day?

Turkey feathers! Why did you catch that?

[ 1863_project ] says:

YES, LOWRIE!!!!!!!

[ 1863_project ] says:

CALLED IT!

(has the ability to predict everything Jed does, but cannot do this for anybody else)

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:02 PM

Also, my mad lib was hilarious. The best mad lib I ever did was when I had one which had a friend of mine ending up singing and stripping to "We Are the World" which now I can't listen to without laughing(and sometimes I envision Papelbon doing this)

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:02 PM

Awesome. Frank Catalanotto's and my birthdays are Sunday the 27th.

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Good work Jenny, Steph, and of Jed, of course. :-)

OREGON SYNERGY TIME.

I think they've gotten into Mendoza's head...

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Well, that's easier than HBP, isn't it?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:03 PM

Stripping to "We Are The World?" Just hearing that cracks me up...it must've been brilliant.

Jed deserves more credit than I do. The Pac-10 All-Conference Team deserves it, actually.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:11 PM

Yay, Manny! Way to keep it going!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:11 PM

For those who didn't see: Ortiz got the cold shoulde rat first and then suddenly like a whole mass of players just suddenly mobbed him like he just hit a walkoff HR. It was awesome!

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:11 PM

I hope TG gets the video of them giving Papi the cold shoulder and then jumping on him.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:11 PM

Thanks for reminding me about SportsCenter, Steph. Now THAT I can watch later!

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:12 PM

oh god jed and jacoby on the bench together! i am DYING here. eee. you rock that one red sleeve, coby. you ROCK it.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:12 PM

Tek had the biggest grin on his face. I love him.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:13 PM

...could somebody get me photographic evidence of those two on the bench together? (has no NESN on her TV)

[ joyosity ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:14 PM

Is this the first time Ellsbury's been wearing his signature single red sleeve this season? I haven't been able to watch NESN in the last 9 days cuz I've been out of town.

Awww, I love how Papi's teammates swarm him in the dugout. Papi's back!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:16 PM

...okay, kidding, I'm way too obsessed here. (can imagine it)

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:16 PM

joy - jacoby did it at least one other time it was warm enough, but this is only the second time i've seen him myself. i love that quirk.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:17 PM

Be back shortly. I need to change into comfy eveningwear (Manny shirt over a nightgown, LOL) and fix something to eat. I'm starved.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:18 PM

Argh, don't make me hungry! I can't eat very much because I need to be able to get my corset on tomorrow, and that's hard when you have a full stomach...

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:19 PM

A reenactment tomorrow? On what?

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:19 PM

c'mon, dice-KKK. rock & fire, baby.

HOLY CRAP JED LOWRIE! EEEEEEE!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:20 PM

Is he not a genius? (Of course he is. He went to Stanford.)

And he's already laughing, according to the radio. I love that dork.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:20 PM

Starlight - yeah, I'm reenacting. But it's fun reenacting - we're playing baseball by 1860s rules! It's to attract prospective students to the campus.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:22 PM

Nuuuuu, Daisuke.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:28 PM

Steph, how about some oatmeal? Do you have any on hand? That'll satisfy your hunger without you having to eat a whole lot of it.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:29 PM

Don and Jerry are bored already? They're looking at bad shirts all over the ballpark.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:29 PM

(has no oatmeal, but has Skittles!) Anything that won't fill me up completely tonight - I just need to be able to get that thing on in the morning. (It actually moves my organs around and I lose my appetite, so I won't starve...)

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:29 PM

What campus? (If you say Stanford, why won't I be surprised?)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:29 PM

No, although I wish it was. I'm in Pennsylvania.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:30 PM

Yay Varitek!!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:30 PM

YAY TEK!

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:31 PM

Penn State? My best friend got her master's in writing there. I never did get to visit the campus, but it looked beautiful from the pics she sent.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:31 PM

This is a photograph I took of my campus. Yeah, I'm kind of out in the middle of nowhere...

[ starlightmusic ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:31 PM

I wanna play 1860's style bball. That sounds like it's gonna rock! What group is organizing it?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:32 PM

I was standing on the battlefield surrounding my campus - I'm at the former Pennsylvania College, now Gettysburg College.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:32 PM

Thats a pretty picture 18.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:33 PM

Oh, our reenacting group on campus (which I'm a member of) set it up - we played once in the fall for Family Weekend, and we liked doing so a lot, so we're doing it again for the prospective students this weekend! It's a blast.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:33 PM

Corsets are cruel and unusual punishment, LOL. One of my grandmas was born in 1889 (long generations on that side of the family) and among our family artifacts is an outfit with a whalebone corset that she wore for something when she was a teenager. I can't even imagine...but I'm sure it does move the internal organs around.

Popcorn, what about popcorn? That's better than Skittles.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:33 PM

Erin - thanks! We're really out there, though - there's not much to do out here...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:35 PM

OOH! I do have popcorn! The vending machine accidentally gave me two bags earlier!

You've got a whalebone one? OUCH. Mine's not whalebone, but...damn.

Jed up! Woohoo!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:35 PM

I love that rolling Pennsylvania farm country. Used to drive through that neck of the woods (not Gettysburg specifically, but have been there once) during my many trips between central NY and The South before I moved down here.

Hey, everybody! I'm just checking in between the 1st and 2nd period of the Devils game. I'll probably be watching that all night (because if we don't win it's our last one), but when it's over I'll swing by here.

If anyone wants to watch a really dirty, natsy, and intense hockey game--watch this one between the Devs and Rangers. Marty Brodeur (Devs goalie) has been getting really roughed up all week, and now we're starting to fight back. Our players have pretty much made it clear that if any of the Rangers even think of touching Marty tonight, then Lundqvist (Ranger's goalie) will be going home in a stretcher.

...Sorry for the random hockey rant... I really had to get that out...

NICE. Jacoby's just that amazingly epic.

[ ecl1958 ] says:

And Jacoby with a triple? Holy shit! This is turning into a slugfest! :-)

[ Erin ] says:

DUSTIN!

[ Abby ] says:

DUSTIN IS AMAZING.

[ starlightmusic ] says:

How amazing to be living on such a history rich land?! I imagine it must feel kinda like I feel when I spend time in Boston.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:39 PM

The Pac-10 is winning this game almost entirely by itself.

Also...because this is kind of awesome:
2003 Pac-10 Player of the Year: Dustin Pedroia
2004 Pac-10 Player of the Year: Jed Lowrie
2005 Pac-10 Player of the Year: Jacoby Ellsbury

I'm not lying.

Steph, I personally don't have a whalebone corset. It's somewhere in the family archives. I think my sister probably has it, unless my mom, in her decluttering zeal, did something stupid. It would never fit ANY of us. We're not big people...mostly around 5'5" and 110s to 120s, but Grandma was TINY. That old Victorian whalebone is probably a size 2.

[ Abby ] says:

I keep forgetting I have a fantasy baseball team. That's not so good.

[ Red Sox <3 ] says:

For any one that missed Papi's grand slam and the cold shoulder/dugout attack, just go to http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2008_04_18_texmlb_bosmlb_1&mode=gameday. Click on "Scoring Plays" then click on "3" (for third inning). There is a video available.

And yes, we are kicking some ass =]

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:40 PM

Oh, it's so cool. Except that there's nothing here besides the battlefield. The tourists are...entertaining, but in the winter the place kind of dies.

I love Pennsylvania in general, though. I spend a lot of time in Lancaster County (I hang with the Amish!) - my family generally goes once a year or so.

[ ecl1958 ] says:

[ Abby ] says:

They've hit for the cycle in the last 5 batters, and it was almost in order - a double for Tek, single for Casey, Jed's sac fly, a triple for Ellsbury and Pedroia's HR. That's kinda cool.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:48 PM

dice-KKKK!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:49 PM

(thinks) Well, everyone knows we have Chris Carter (Stanford) in Pawtucket right now...I know quite a few AAA Stanford kids, at least (Sam Fuld and Donny Lucy, for two). And the Tigers have a prospect named Jeff Larish (ASU)...

Eddie Kunz (Oregon State) is a few years off, but he'll probably become the Mets' new closer after Wagner's done in a couple of years. I'm looking forward to him, too...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:51 PM

Steph, you know what's so funny? Back when I was still watching a lot of college basketball, the Pac-10 was a huge force. They're still considered one of the BIG conferences, but I had no idea they rocked in baseball as well.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:51 PM

I didn't know Carter was from Stanford too, that's exciting! So much smart in the Sox system.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:53 PM

Chris Carter has a degree in human biology from Stanford - and it took him only 3 1/4 years to get it. He's awesome like that.

UCLA is still great as far as basketball goes. But ASU is an unstoppable baseball force right now - actually, every school in the Pac-10 playing baseball currently has a winning record (combining conference and non-conference play).

The University of Oregon doesn't get its baseball team back until 2009, so there are only nine schools right now playing baseball, but...yeah.

[ jenny again ] says:

Steph, it was UCLA that I used to follow, mid to late 90s. Matter of fact, it was on a kinda-sorta-fangirl forum that I first came up with "ecl," aka East Coast Lady, because I was the only person on there who wasn't out West.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:57 PM

Darn, that sounded like it was gone!

I was a little surprised when UCLA lost to Memphis this year, actually. I at least thought they'd make the title game. (I wasn't surprised when Kevin Love entered the draft, though...)

[ Erin ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:58 PM

I had UCLA winning the whole thing this year

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 8:58 PM

Hey, Pesky's from Oregon! He can!

I'm not exactly sure why the program was discontinued, but it was some time ago...It just says it was downgrated to a club sport in '81, and I'm not sure why...I'm excited for the program's return.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 9:00 PM

I pull for the Heels first and foremost, and was hoping to see them and UCLA meet in the title game. Weird how it ended up being their opponents instead. But between the Heels and little old Davidson...the state of NC had plenty to buzz about during the tournament. I literally cried when Davidson lost at the buzzer.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 9:01 PM

I have a family friend at Davidson! I was pulling for them so badly (and even more once Stanford was eliminated by Texas). I would've loved to see them win it all, even though I knew it was somewhat unlikely...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 9:05 PM

ummm that Longoria deal is the dumbest thing I've heard today. 9 years to an unestablished rookie - DUMB! and he is dumb to take it - he could establish himself there and get a ton more money with a bigger-market team in a few years. which of course is why they did it in the first place - but why did HE? rookie mistake, rookie mistake!

[ Lyndsay ] says:
on April 18, 2008 9:36 PM

wow, Remy and Orsillo are in rare form tonight!!! I think they've had a record number of conversations tonight unrelated to anything going on in the field.

The line drive hit him in the wrist.

What the heck is that sound effect anyway? Why is it only around some of the time? ANNOYING.

[ Ian ] says:

Whenever a pitcher throws the ball over 95 MPH and over, it makes the swoosh swoosh sound.

I'm thinking of trying to go to the game Sunday afternoon, should I?

[ 1863_project ] says:

Nippert. He ruined my 'everyone named Dustin is short' theory. I mean, I had compiled a lot of evidence (I'd never seen someone named Dustin who was over 6' tall), and then he came on and was all of 6'7" or 6'8" and my crack theory was shattered.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:00 PM

Nice Casey. I wish he had popped up saying he was safe.

And you're welcome Steph. Did I make your day this afternoon?

My bad Rusty. Bad assumption on my part. My apologies.

That whole scenario in the dugout was funny.

[ Texas Gal ] says:

Sir-Crawls-a-lot - love it. He and Pleats In Cleats make a good corner pair.

[ shark ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:09 PM

What the heck was Beckett doing with his fingers?

[ Ian ] says:

Pedroia likes to swing at those fastballs over his head.

[ njdevils ] says:

I didn't think about it that way, Ian, (probably because I don't get NESN, anyway) but I guess you're right!

[ 1863_project ] says:

And now it's Joe Thurston's turn! So excited...

[ Abby ] says:

There's that big grin of Papi's we missed so much!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:12 PM

I don't even care about hockey and can't imagine rooting for the Bruins to lose just so we can get 1 of 162 games in HD. GO BRUINS.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:12 PM

Can you tell I'm not a Bruins fan.

And wtf was that NESN. Ellsbury's running home and they're showing Alicea and Big Papi. At least they made up for it with the long camera shot.

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Gameday is stuck again, so I'm glad I have the radio feed.

Nice work guys!

[ Ellen ] says:

Abby I was just thinking the same thing. It's nice to see.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:12 PM

Maybe Youkilis can be Youk E-less (or something like that), as in error-less!
...nevermind...It didn't sound that lame when I first thought of it. :)

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:13 PM

Why is Pedroia Pleats in Cleats?

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:13 PM

Ian, no need to apologize, in fact I appreciated it. I just wanted to make sure you knew.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:14 PM

That's cuz you're closer to Boston than I am Texy. I'm closer to NY and I think it has something to do with the fact that I dislike the Bruins very much from back in the day when they were the Hartford Whalers main rival.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:14 PM

Youk = Slumpbuster
And it's the Intern or E6 at short.

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:15 PM

Ian, do you want the Red Sox in HD or do you hate the Bruins like I do because I'm from Connecticut and still consider myself a "Whalers fan?"

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:15 PM

Yeah, I want to know the origin of Pleats in Cleats too. And Youk E-less makes perfect sense.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:15 PM

Youk is Boomer Jr. in 2 ways: George Scott(good fielding 1B IIRC) and David Wells(he's got the Wells look to him)

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:15 PM

Never mind, my question was answered.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:16 PM

By George Scott I'm meaning his glove :P

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:16 PM

Texy, coincidentally, E6 currently really does have 6 E's.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:17 PM

I vote for Slumpbuster. I might be overly superstitious, but I think calling him E-less might be problematic.

[ Ian ] says:

The last part of what you said Rusty.

Ok now time for the outfield and rest of the team.

Clay and Jon throwing sunflower seeds at the camera... AWESOME.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:18 PM

As far as Josh goes, let's stick with an old favorite - Captain Kick-Ass of the Fuck Yeah Brigade.

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:18 PM

Wakefield- Timmay!!!?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:18 PM

Yeah, Abby, you're got a point there about Youk. Plus, what better Slumpbuster could there be than a guy who currently is batting 364?

[ Erin ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:18 PM

I hope someone got a video of that.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:18 PM

So that's the third epic moment from this game now? We've had Papi being mobbed, Papi impersonating Jed and now Clay and Jon being dorky and throwing sunflower seeds?

This is a great game.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:19 PM

Pleats In Cleats was my doing. I expressed horror at the pleated pants he wears in those Sullivan Tire commercials... and then mentioned that he was Pleats In Cleats and it sort of stuck.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:19 PM

Good idea, Abby.
Ian, add Aardvark for Aardsma to that list. And maybe add Yo-Yo for Tavarez (I'm not sure if everyone calls him that but I've definitely heard it a few times).

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:19 PM

I'll put up video of them all, as always. :)

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:19 PM

It was pretty cute, TG.

Lowrie looks a little like the crazy pitcher from Angels in the Outfield, I think.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:20 PM

Tavarez also goes by Batshit.

(YAY VIDEO!)

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:20 PM

I'll second that motion, 1863!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:20 PM

The Sullivan Tire commercials are posted...where?

And will the Papi impersonating Jed moment be posted somewhere too? I already saw the Papi-mob thanks to Gameday.

LOL, the Texas announcers are currently talking about needing a "major miracle" to win this game.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:21 PM

Wakefield - Senior Citizen (longest tenured player on the team)

Hell of a play by Lowrie to end the game. E-6 would have blown that.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:21 PM

YAY WE WIN. And Jed was flat-out AMAZING tonight. (is so insanely proud...!)

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:22 PM

Yay! Finally, a win tonight--I really needed one!

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:22 PM

Wakefield has been my favorite player on the Red Sox since he's been there. I will not stand for his being called Senior Citizen (even though he *is* 41.)

My 4 key isn't working.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:22 PM

And I third it. I already told TG that this site is now part of my "Daily Essentials" bookmarks, in other words, one of my absolute favorites of the hundreds of things I have bookmarked on this computer.

[ Ian ] says:

Two of the three are on there and a link to the first one as well.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:23 PM

Rusty, I think Wakey is 42.

Steph, Jed did great!

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:23 PM

Baseball Tonight just had the mobbing footage. They keep calling the Sox "The Nation," as in, "Jed Lowrie, lplaying short for The Nation..."

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:23 PM

I always think of Wakefield as "Wakey Wakey, Eggs & Bakey". Or Timmeh. Of course, Timlin is also Timmeh - which adds to the fun.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:24 PM

Ian, you are the master of multitasking to get all that put together while paying attention to the game and posting here! I'm impressed!

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:24 PM

ecl, he was born August 2, 1966, which would make him 41 and eight months ;)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:24 PM

I hate that ESPN thinks the team is the Nation. It confuses the shit out of me - how could they not get that the Nation is the fanbase?

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:25 PM

Texas Gal, those are my two nicknames for my boy Wake as well. But I don't think about Timlin that much :)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:25 PM

LOL about Timmeh...is that a derivative from LOLcats "kitteh?"

Ah, I forgot about Baseball Tonight. It will have to wait. I just want to sit here at the computer and watch the videos from the past few nights.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:25 PM

Maybe they're trying to be cool. They tried to drop inside jokes all over the place. They said Papi hit the ball "wikkid faaaaaahhhh onto the Mass Pike."

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:27 PM

More from South Park's Timmy. That's how my friends and I always say it, too -- "Timmmmmehhhhh".

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:27 PM

Hmmm, Rusty (scratching head)...I guess that makes me 48 and 7 months, then. Sept 23, 1958. :-O

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:27 PM

Speaking of RS Nation, this is stuck in my head really badly, so I figured I'd annoy share with everyone.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:27 PM

That's why I love Firefox. Multiple windows plus I have a good search feature on my site.

I've had those up there for a while.

I guess the multitasking is a lot easier to do with a laptop. If I used my desktop there's no way I could multitask like i do.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:27 PM

Well, I'm off - I've got one or two things to do before I go to sleep tonight. It'll be a long day tomorrow...g'night, all!

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:29 PM

ecl, are we doing math correctly?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:29 PM

I'm going to assume (correctly this time I hope) that Texy will be getting the video of Big Papi and Jeb and then the sunflower seeds.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:29 PM

Ah, okay. I don't watch South Park...really just news and sports as far as TV, so wouldn't know.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:31 PM

Rusty: Proof positive that I'm tired! LOL! Sorry about that. Funny, I got plenty of sleep last night (finally), but once I ate that carb-heavy supper at 9:30 or so (omelet w/toast) I started to get really sleepy! Math was never my strong point, especially when I'm sleepy.

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:33 PM

ecl, last time I checked, I was born before April 18 in 1978, and I'm 30, which would make you...not doing well at math. And I had a quesadilla for dinner, also at 9:30.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:34 PM

Ian, if I had a laptop I could actually post from my bedroom when the games are on TV. You should have seen me running back and forth during those four games this past week. I got plenty of exercise. Being an "old lady," LOL, I'm just not as comfortable with the newer technology as a lot of you folks are. My desktop lives on my kitchen table and it works just fine for me.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:34 PM

I miss Mike Lowell.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:36 PM

ecl, according to this, your: "Current age is 49.
Turning 50 in 157 days."

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:37 PM

You just turned 30. I was born 9/23/58, as I said, so am 49 for now.

Coincidentally, my omelet contained "four cheese Mexican mix" and salsa. Must have been the night for south of the border.

Abby, Mikey will feel better and return soon, don't worry.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:38 PM

Eeeeek! The big FIVE-OH! My childhood best friend told me, after hers, that "so far, it's not that bad."

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:38 PM

ecl, mmm, Mexican cheese.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:40 PM

The Yankees lost (8-2, Orioles), which makes this win even sweeter (or spicier if we're still referring to tacos!).

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:41 PM

Apparently Ellsbury has 11 walks in 49 plate appearances, and last year he had 8BB in 127AB. Quite an improvement so far.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:41 PM

Rusty: Sargento Classic 4-Cheese Mexican. Should be in your grocery store.

nj: LOL about the tacos. And that's good news!

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:42 PM

I haven't gotten into Ellsbury, probably because I don't like Taco Bell.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:44 PM

Really, Rusty? I didn't think it was possible for someone to not like Jacoby...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:45 PM

I like Ellsbury just fine as a player and appreciate him as a human being but haven't gotten a case of the "squeeees" about him because I'm so old that I squee for the 30-somethings instead. I was telling someone, somewhere on one of these blogs, that although he's very handsome, to my eyes he hasn't yet crossed that mysterious threshold from post-adolescence to grown manhood, so he still looks like a kid to me.

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:46 PM

Well, part of it was the takeover of his fandom by teenyboppers.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:47 PM

LOL...like the second coming of the Beatles. It's 1964 all over again!

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:47 PM

That makes sense, ecl. Jacoby's older than me, so it's like the exact opposite. The fact that, "he hasn't yet crossed that mysterious threshold from post-adolescence to grown manhood," is actually a good thing for me!

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:49 PM

Even at the age of 30, I feel the need to distance myself from teenyboppers, so maybe that's the precise reason I'm not yet a Jacoby fan.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:50 PM

It's insanely random, but Papi's buried jersey is now up to $55,200 on eBay!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:51 PM

Which means that NJ likes older men.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:51 PM

He and I are pretty much the same age, so I appreciate him just the way he is, but I'm not one of those crazies who wants to propose marriage or anything.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:52 PM

nj, you're so articulate that I keep on forgetting that you and some of other posters are a lot younger than me! Proves that baseball is a thinking person's game, right?

Back to age, that means you probably don't get your head turned by the older guys on the team the way I do.

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:53 PM

Of course, I used to have a crush on Rusty Greer, so my taste in men is probably already suspect.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:53 PM

I guess so, Ian.
(blushes)

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:53 PM

55,000? Geez. At least its for charity.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:55 PM

Yeah, Ian, but she probably doesn't like older men the way I like younger men. The players who turn my head are in their early to mid 30s, which makes them all young enough to be my kids. I doubt that Jacoby is old enough to be NJ's dad!

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:57 PM

I have a crush on a man old enough to be my dad. He's turning 52. But he's obviously not a baseball player.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:57 PM

Nope. He's "only" eight years older than me.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:57 PM

So I had to look up Rusty Greer...there are some apparently recent pics on Google Images and he looks like a reasonably nice-looking guy, considering that I don't go for that physical type.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:59 PM

And that was so wrong of me. I apologize. OK back to writing my recap.

[ jenny again ] says:
on April 18, 2008 10:59 PM

yeah the "stay here" tag on nesn says they're going to talk to lowrie! MY FRIDAY NIGHT IS COMPLETE.

[ njdevils ] says:

It's fine, Ian. Really, I didn't take it in a bad way at all. Actually, I thought it was pretty funny! =D

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:01 PM

ecl, the red-headed baseball player? I now wonder why I thought he was good-looking ;)

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:02 PM

Awesome, Jenny!

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:02 PM

I had a thing for Lou Merloni for a while and he's 13 years older than me.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:03 PM

I thought it was funny too, nj! Jenny, I hope you enjoy the Lowrie interview.

And on that note, I'm going to start looking at video clips on this site and Ian's site, so I can go to bed with an extra big smile on my face. See everyone tomorrow evening!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:05 PM

Whoops, I refreshed the page and more comments came up. Rusty, maybe it's me being tired, but I don't quite get what you just said. Do you mean "what was I thinking?" I've definitely been there...

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:05 PM

Have they talked to Lowrie yet? I was catching up on The Office I missed last night.

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:05 PM

I had a thing for Harrison Ford for a while, and he's, umm...*counts*...36 years older than me.

[ Rusty ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:07 PM

ecl, yes, I mean "what was I thinking finding Rusty Greer hot?" He's only 39 now and he looks fifty-something.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:12 PM

Well, Rusty, I was waiting to see what you said before I posted, but a lot of guys don't age well, especially fair-skinned guys. Look at Curt Schilling and Roger Clemens, for example. And red hair is a fleeting glory in itself. I totally adored one of my high school classmates, I'd call his hair golden ginger brown. It was right in between but his eyes were green and he probably would have been considered a redhead. Looked him up on the Internet last year and actually found a picture and wished I hadn't. The pic was taken when he was 48 and he looked bloated and pasty. Still had all his hair but it had turned brown (and perhaps even that was out of a bottle). So although I'm not familiar with what Rusty Greer looked like in his prime, I'm not surprised that he aged badly.

[ Katie ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:12 PM

did anyone catch the hilarity that was Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz sitting in the dugout throwing seeds at the camera?

[ Abby ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:14 PM

Yes, Katie! I really wish they'd use more footage from that camera. It's a little intrusive but I bet they get a lot of cuteness.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 18, 2008 11:18 PM

Aw, I didn't get to see it (kicks herself for living too far away to get NESN). Hopefully (hint, hint) TG or Ian will be able to get some footage up!

[
