Gameday Open Thread: Tigers 4/10

vs. Detroit Tigers
7:05 pm
Fenway Park - Boston, MA
SP: Tim Wakefield vs. Nate Robertson
tv/radio: NESN-Plus - MLB.TV - WRKO

If you can tear yourself away from Bruins playoff action, the Masters coverage or the Frozen Four (BC! Notre Dame!) tonight, there should be a heckuva showdown to determine who will take home the series victory between the Sox and the Tigers. Or, better yet, do like I'm going to do and go to a sports bar so you can watch all of that at the same time.

Don't forget: the game's on NESN-Plus tonight- go here to see where to find it.

Use the comments to this entry as your own personal Gameday open thread. These open threads have been fun so far - so I'll keep 'em up as long as y'all are interested in having them.

I've read in a couple of places that Mike is on the DL and Jed's been called up in his place...can anyone confirm that?

(My hands are shaking like crazy...)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 6:44 PM

Never mind it - there's a link here. It's confirmed.

Speedy recovery, Mike! (goes back to hyperventilating)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 6:51 PM

yup it's official and looks like Cora might be right behind him. I doubt Lowrie will play tonight (I know he's not in the lineup) as he played this afternoon in Pawtucket.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 6:52 PM

Yeah - I watched the Pawtucket game, and I was expecting Joe Thurston because he was out of the lineup today. Hmmm. I was (pleasantly) surprised.

[ Ian ] says:

[ Ian ] says:

They could bring up Thurston is Cora ends up with Mikey on the DL.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 6:58 PM

Hey all, just blew in from work and will be following the action on Gameday, posting here, and trying to fool with e-mails, all at the same time. Gotta change into something comfy and throw supper together. Back in a few...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 6:58 PM

That wouldn't surprise me one bit. The PawSox do have the depth to cover the middle infield whilst they're gone (Velazquez and Spann), so they should be fine down there - and if need be, they can even bump somebody up from Portland.

...I'm a little concerned with the injuries coming this early, though, I have to say. But the DL is a good idea so we can have Mike and Alex when we need them.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:01 PM

Cora's injury sounded a bit like it was fluke injury.

And i just realized something. We won't get the game in HD since it's on the NESN Plus channel.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:02 PM

I won't even get it on TV anyway. I envy all of you (but in a nice way, I promise!).

I am totally moving to New England after school. I need NESN so badly...and there's lots of history up there, so getting a job shouldn't be so hard...

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:02 PM

ooh, Don just said Lowrie is playing tonight!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:02 PM

and during the entire pregame show, they didn't mention Cora's injury.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:03 PM

...Don said Jed is in?

(starts hyperventilating again) I'd just started breathing again, too!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:03 PM

Lowrie isn't in the starting lineup. He said "Jed Lowrie comes up from the Pawsox"

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:04 PM

(calms down again) Okay, good - that'd probably been too much for my lungs to take right there. Jed already played today, anyway. He needs a break...

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:04 PM

damn. I guess I'm too hopeful..

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:04 PM

Steph i'll have a present for you in a minute.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:05 PM

He's here! Oh my god!

He's in the dugout, though... well, he might play today!

I'll be here on and off--I've got to eat and do some work. But I will be here!

Let's go Sox! :D

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:06 PM

You're too hopeful? I'm the one with a tag that reads 'I am obsessed with Jed Lowrie' on my Livejournal...

See? I'm not lying.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:08 PM

That's okay, 1863, we all have our obsessions

We're in similar situations as far as media coverage. I saw your posts about Gettysburg, etc., during last night's game. Very nice area! But far from all things Sox. As for me, I'd have to move 1000 miles to get to New England. :-(

[ shark ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:09 PM

Good lord..they even have towels in Montreal!!!!!!!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:09 PM

Nice one, Youk!

Towels? Good thing I'm watching the Sox. Ugh.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:10 PM

My computer DVR wouldn't let me take a screenshot for you Steph. I tried though.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:10 PM

It's a lovely area - and I'm surprised how many Sox fans are at my college! (There's even a guy with a Portland Sea Dogs hat!) I finally caved and got the Gameday audio - the radio's lovely to have, and it's a huge step over Gameday. (Oh, and it costs less than $20 per year.)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:10 PM

Awww, don't worry about it - it's okay.

...I need to get computer DVR. It just sounds amazing.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:12 PM

You can sign up for the 14.95 Red Sox Nation package and get game day audio for free with it.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:13 PM

For those who are in the Boston area--I'm loving this beautiful weather today! I spent so much time outside this afternoon. Perfect temperature.

Wow. Youk finally gets a chance to show off his range. He has such fabulous all-around defense.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:13 PM

Steph, it's the same thing as having TIVO or a DVR. I just have a TV tuner wit the DVR program.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:15 PM

I signed up for the audio independently, but it still cost roughly the same. It's a good deal either way.

And it's better than staring at the screen and waiting for each pitch to come on delay. (I once compared a game on TV to Gameday, and the pitch delay was something like 30 seconds. Ugh.)

I don't have TIVO (I doubt my college would allow it), but I'd love to get it at some point... (puts it on her 'things to do when she graduates' list)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:15 PM

Is the Red Sox Nation package something on mlb.com? The way I'm going, I may just need that!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:16 PM

Pretty bunt by Lugo.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:16 PM

Oh yes the weather was lovely here in CT too. I went down the beach and did a little walking.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:18 PM

steph beat me to it. LOL.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:18 PM

Ya reckon if Lugo keeps up the good work the fans will quit hating on him? I just can't get with all the nastiness on the part of sports fans, especially towards someone on their own team.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:19 PM

Lugo is feeling the pressure because Jed is currently in the ballpark. Okay, I'm kidding.

I try to follow the Japanese style of cheering for your team - that is, cheering for slumping players in order to encourage them to start hitting again. I've always liked it better.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:19 PM

Very obvious "FUCK" there by Pedroia again.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:20 PM

Bruins down 2-0 16 minutes to go in the first period.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:20 PM

Dustin and his fuck's.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:21 PM

That's the way it is ECL. J.D, drew got it from the fans last year, the new york fans do it all the time.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:21 PM

the shift should be outlawed.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:21 PM

how many double plays have I seen in the past three days?

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:22 PM

Steph - Agreed. The only players I would ever, ever boo would be Johnny Demon and Alex Rodriguez.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:22 PM

Thanks for the link, y'all (youse guys). Bookmarked to peruse at my leisure.

1863, that's a great idea. Isn't that what finally snapped the 0-33 last year?

Oh maaaaaan....PAPI...what's the matter with you? :-(

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:23 PM

Ugh--the shift and the DP. No fun.

C'mon, Wakey... strikes are good.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:24 PM

Steph are you cheering like the Hanshin Tiger Fan club

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:24 PM

Ian, who is the most likely of the Yankees to feel the wrath of the fans? Is there a perennial goat, or does it change on a whim? Just curious.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:24 PM

I am really, really hoping that Jed gets an at-bat in the Yankees series against Mike Mussina. That would crack me up so bad...

(For those who don't get it, both of them went to Stanford.)

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:25 PM

(is in an ouendan!) Okay, not really, but I'd totally love to be in one. They're awesome!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:26 PM

My guess it tomorrow night it will be AROD and Johnny Demon.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:26 PM

Ecl - I know A-Rod gets a lot of it (by the media, anyway). And he gets even more once October rolls around.

Oh, Wake. That was close.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:28 PM

But it really all depends. They will heckle Mariano Rivera.

In the 2005 opening day introductions, Mariano was the only Yankees player to get a cheer. But that's because he chocked in the 2004 ALCS.

Last year was AROD with the blonde masks. Could possibly be Giambi with the steroids. all i know is it's going to be a raucous crowd

[ Abby ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:28 PM

Hey, the Bruins have scored a goal!

But Cash, that wasn't so nice.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:28 PM

I have always, always found A-Rod really annoying.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:29 PM

Did Cash just throw a knuckleball out to Pedroia

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:29 PM

Oh, Cash. Throwing quickly is good, but throwing wildly is worse than throwing slowly.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:29 PM

That is why I wanted Dusty Brown to be the backup catcher.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:32 PM

I know I'm going to jinx him but coming into tonight's game, Cash has no passed balls in 91 innings with the Red Sox. Most of those innings are catching Wakefield.

That's pretty damn good if you asked me.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:33 PM

Ian, I won't get to actually watch until Saturday. I can't even imagine the scene inside the stadium!

Whew...what a relief....

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:33 PM

(knocks on wood) That's excellent. If only he had Dusty Brown's throwing arm, though...

I am going on the record as saying that I would legally marry Dusty Brown's throwing arm.

Yay Youk! Phew!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:35 PM

Cash's defense is superb. It's just that Dusty Brown's is kind of better.

Manny, what was that?

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:37 PM

JD! haha, yeah!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:37 PM

HA. That would've been an amazing play if he'd actually caught it.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:38 PM

That sounded SO weird over the radio...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:39 PM

It essentially was a bad snap by the center to the QB

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:39 PM

Jacoby and Lowrie moment!! Aw, Steph, you missed it!

Anyway, they were leaning on the dugout fence and chatting. It was very cute.

Although, not to go all shallow on you guys, anything Jacoby does is very cute.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:39 PM

...I MISSED THAT?

(dies a little inside)

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:40 PM

-hey, has anyone been to the National's new stadium? I'll be in Washington for a while and wanted to know if a trip would be worthwhile..

by the way, awee, Jed & Jacoby.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:40 PM

Lots of Lowrie shots this inning.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:40 PM

I should probably explain - for those who don't know, Jed and Jacoby have known each other for about seven years. They played together on an all-state team from Oregon in high school, then against each other in college, and were then drafted together. It's kind of remarkable.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:40 PM

Another Lowrie adorable moment--

He went to spit something out over the rail but somehow didn't get it all the way so he had to pick it off the arm of his sweatshirt.

Aw, Coco.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:41 PM

(cracks up - bad) That's just...so Jed.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:43 PM

Hey Liza -- no shame in "going shallow!" We may have different taste in guys, but I definitely have my awwwww moments when it comes to baseball.

Poor Lowrie having to take care of that sweatshirt, LOL.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:43 PM

Youk's getting a workout down there at the hot corner tonight.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:44 PM

It's so fun to see him play excellent defense that doesn't involve mostly catching.

[ Abby ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:44 PM

Nate Robertson could take some advice from Lonie Paxton.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:44 PM

P.S. to the above...I definitely agree that Jacoby is cute. It's just that I'm older so notice the 30-somethings.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:46 PM

There is only one ballplayer I've ever fallen ridiculously hard for in my entire life...and he's just been called up tonight. And I'm loving every minute of it, even though I can't see him in the dugout with Jacoby right now.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:46 PM

oh, Wake..

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:46 PM

Another HBP. Jeez.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:48 PM

The radio confused the hip and the shoulder. Chris Carter is not amused.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:48 PM

Liza, you took the words right out of my mouth.

1863, nice profile he's got!

[ Abby ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:48 PM

Timmy.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:48 PM

euh..

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:49 PM

Come on, Wakey. Strikes go above the plate. Remember that.

Ugh, 62 pitches in 2.1 innings? No fun.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:49 PM

That picture was taken by the best Red Sox photographer in the world.

I have that one printed out and up on my wall. (grins sheepishly)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:49 PM

This seems eerily similar to the 2nd inning.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:51 PM

Cabrera looked totally lost against that knuckler.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:51 PM

1863, oh my, oh yes. As a fairly new fan I've done some digging for websites, and her work is awesome.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:51 PM

Nice strikeout, Wake!

(crosses her fingers and knocks on her wooden desktop)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:51 PM

Steph you know that most minor league games are available for free on MiLB.com?

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:52 PM

"Again, the bottom falling out of this curve--uh, knuckleball."

Oh, Remy...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:52 PM

On the radio that is.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:53 PM

I do catch quite a lot of them, although a good bunch are played when I'm in class (I missed a good chunk of my PawSox's game today). I usually just use Gameday, though, because I don't want the radio broadcast sound to clash with them...

But on off-days, I know what I'll be doing this season.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:53 PM

If you would like to listen to any of the games from your favorite Red Sox minor league team, head over MILB.com Gameday Audio. It’s free to sign up and to listen.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:55 PM

I've been using MiLB.com Gameday Audio, actually - I did my PawSox Opening Day live-blog to it. It's wonderful. It's just a bit hard to have two radio broadcasts going at once...

Wake = the new Houdini? (JoS refers to Lester by that name...)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:55 PM

Hmmm...it didn't like my brackets.

What I MEANT to say was...relieved!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:56 PM

Oh, and don't ask why I refer to George Kottaras as "Georgie Sparkles." It's a long, long story...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:57 PM

I think there's something in the coding of the site that doesn't like brackets.

Ian - agreed. "The GLOVE, kid, spit in the GLOVE." It was funny the first time, okay the second, and annoying after that.

YEAH, Casey!

[ Abby ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:57 PM

Yay Casey!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 7:58 PM

OK that one was my fault. i should have never said anything. Places self in a timeout.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:09 PM

That happened because the radio said there could be an inning-ending double play. You don't say those things if you're a commentator!

on April 10, 2008 8:09 PM

Thank you, Coco! Kept it to one run...

on April 10, 2008 8:10 PM

I was totally gonna say how good Wakefield looked, too.

Oh, Tim--I answer the phone and come back and you've let up a run. I can only say that I hope the same happens to Robertson.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:11 PM

*two runs

[ 1863_project ] says:

Ugh. This is not fun. I'm getting another FAIL macro ready for you guys...end it.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:12 PM

Polanco is not having a good series.

Can't the Aflac people come up with new commercials? This one was annoying by halfway through last season.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:14 PM

I have my second FAIL macro ready to go if we need it. The offense needs to wake up now.

(Hint, hint, Tito - Jed should be awake because he's just been given a cup of coffee! Okay, bad joke.)

[ ecl1958 ] says:

awe, man.
he didn't go around..

-lets go Manny.

Bad call on Papi there. Should've been called a check.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:17 PM

Has his batting average ever dipped this low before? It's bizarre and downright scary to see him have the worst BA on the team.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:21 PM

Robertson--keep up this crazy pitching. I like it.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:

WOOOT WOOT we on da scoreboard

YES! Go J.D.! (And nice running, Manny!)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:24 PM

Woo HOOOOO!!!!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:25 PM

If the throw isn't cut off, Manny's nailed at the plate probably

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:25 PM

bahah, Manny can do whatever he wants to do.

COCO!!!!!!!!!!?!??!?!?

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:26 PM

nice job coco. we are tied now

[ Abby ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:26 PM

Coco!!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:26 PM

On radio delay - I'm assuming that's good...and it is! YES! YAY COCO!

...but damnit, we could've had two!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:27 PM

Oh, man--that EASILY would've been a triple. Come on.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:27 PM

that was a great camera shot. The ball actually hit off the foul pole on the bounce and wasn't touched by a fan.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:29 PM

Yeah. Wow. That was weird.

C'mon, Casey!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:29 PM

Ecl wishes she could actually see what's happening on the field...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:30 PM

3-2! Yeah Casey!

(Sac for those who're on delay)

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:30 PM

woohoo

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:31 PM

Yay, it's a lead! Good job, Sean!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:31 PM

CASH!!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:31 PM

ZOMG.
this is fun now.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:31 PM

And the cash man delivers

[ Abby ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:32 PM

Yay Kevin!!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:32 PM

...yay Cash? Wow!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:33 PM

Bruins down 3-1 late in the 2nd

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:33 PM

(Sorry if I don't comment as much as usual - I'm in the process of drawing Jed with a literal cup of coffee in his hands...)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:33 PM

Nice running by the slowest guy on our team

[ Abby ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:33 PM

I think he's my new Sox crush.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:33 PM

Yeah Cash! Again!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:34 PM

...wow. Cash with a stolen base!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:34 PM

nice, again, for Cash!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:35 PM

And there we go.

4 runs, though!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:35 PM

ass commercial!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:36 PM

and now we get the Papelbon ass smacking ad.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:36 PM

PAPELCOMMERCIAL!

[ Jennie ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:37 PM

I hope you're not complaining about seeing the Papelbon ass smacking ad - some of us would be very happy to not have to go onto YouTube to see it!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:37 PM

Will we "out of region" folks get to see such things as Papelcommercials when the games are nationally televised, i.e., this weekend?

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:37 PM

I'm starting to realize that it's hard to watch a ballgame and analyze Kurt Vonnegut at the same time..

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:38 PM

Vonnegut's awesome, though! (is a satire geek) I was upset when he died...

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:39 PM

Ow! Something's up there with Cabrera... That looked like it hurt.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:40 PM

Gameday screen says "injury delay." What happened?

[ Anonymous ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:40 PM

Texy has the ad right here.

http://www.outincenterfield.com/blog/2008/04/papelbon_is_taking_over.html

and i doubt the ad will be a national one since it's a regional promotion up here

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:40 PM

Hmmmph. I guess he couldn't have been too injured.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:41 PM

Can you say... pinch runner?

Also, funny throw by Coco there.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:41 PM

...wow, that sounded like a homer for a moment there. That was close!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:41 PM

analyzing takes all the fun out of everything though.. :[

-I'm in PA and I see all the Boston commercials with the MLB extra innings thing..

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:41 PM

Ecl - Cabrera grabbed at his hamstring after a swing. His next few swings looked really awkward.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:42 PM

MDC warming up in the pen

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:42 PM

Manny Del up in the pen.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:43 PM

B&W that's because you're getting the NESN feed probably on the Extra Innings package. They aren't going to run special ads for that feed.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:43 PM

(whistles) Gorgeous.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:45 PM

Thanks for the clarification, Liza, and for the heads-up, Anonymous. I saw that there was Papelstuff when I was on here while at work, but didn't explore further because I'm not supposed to watch videos from the office. So many things to play with here at home...so little time!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:45 PM

Wake's gonna be done. He was over 100 pitches. Anybody got the exact count?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:46 PM

UGH! My roommate just decided that it's nap time! Now I can't even celebrate or curse people out!

...this is why I'm getting a single room next year.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:47 PM

108 pitches

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:47 PM

Dusti--NO.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:48 PM

Well the leg looks fine.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:48 PM

Damnit, Dustin! You should know better!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:48 PM

that was an absolute cannon throw by Cabrera

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:49 PM

Thanks, Ian.

C'mon, Papi! Wooohoooo! Let's run this starter's pitch count up and OVER 108.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:50 PM

Papi is making me a sad, sad, panda.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:50 PM

...Poor Papi.

Let's go Manny?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:50 PM

C'mon Manny...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:51 PM

Have we forgotten how to work counts?

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:52 PM

Have we forgotten what a strike zone is?

Also, that "2. K. K!?" commercial is pissing me off.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:53 PM

Delcarmen.
*glares*

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:53 PM

(Scanning Jed in. If I don't talk much, I apologize!)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:54 PM

I'm trying to check e-mail so am being sporadic here as well. And I hate the 2KK commercial too.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:55 PM

Yay Cash! Nicely done there!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:56 PM

Hey! The radio just informed me that Harden is on the DL! Hmmm.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:57 PM

...I like the 2KK commercial.
oh well.
-nice, MDC.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:58 PM

UGH. I just got some seriously frustrating news--I might've been able to get two loge box tickets for April 23, against the Angels... but I'm in NY then! Mmmf.

Nice inning by MDC there, though.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 8:58 PM

Good job, Manny Del! Very nice. Let's do more of that!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:00 PM

Harden has a shoulder something, apparently.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:01 PM

Hopefully the Red Sox can beat up on the Wang tomorrow

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:02 PM

Athletics placed RHP Rich Harden on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 3, with a strained back muscle.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:03 PM

Nice catch by Maggs.

Also, Clay biting his nails? That was adorable!

[ jules ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:03 PM

Hi All!

I just got home from my daughter's track meet...yeah we're ahead!

I'll have to read to see how Wake did.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:04 PM

I love me some JD.
always will.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:04 PM

I have Clay's no-no on my iPod, and he bites his nails during that game, too! I highly suspect that's why he chews on his glove when he's nervous.

...I know way too much.

(Also, Jed with a cup of coffee! He deserves it!)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:04 PM

Bye-bye Robertson.

Also, Wang annoys me. He isn't even particularly good.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:05 PM

very nice steph

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:06 PM

I love how he chews on his glove. I've started doing it during softball practices, to tell the truth.

Also, awesome picture. Hah.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:07 PM

Nice picture!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:07 PM

Aww, thanks! It's a bit sloppy, though - I kind of rushed it.

I try to pitch like Clay when I play the Wii, and since I literally wear my glove when I do that I've added the glove-chewing to my impersonation. (I have no life.)

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:09 PM

Where's our fearless leader Texy tonight?

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:11 PM

"If you can tear yourself away from Bruins playoff action, the Masters coverage or the Frozen Four (BC! Notre Dame!) tonight, there should be a heckuva showdown to determine who will take home the series victory between the Sox and the Tigers. Or, better yet, do like I'm going to do and go to a sports bar so you can watch all of that at the same time."

As quoted from, uh, the post...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:12 PM

can you tell i didn't read that

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:12 PM

I came over from my blog and clicked on teh comments and started spewing words.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:12 PM

Silly Ian... :)

Casey's gum has something to say about that!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:13 PM

Ugh, sorry, Sean. That pitch was nasty. Well, it sounded nasty over the radio.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:15 PM

oh it was nasty

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:18 PM

Did anyone else get that weird "PEW PEW!" sound effect right as Cash made contact?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:19 PM

Well, at least he was tenacious enough to work 10 pitches.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:22 PM

And again, as Maggs fouled one off...?

"PEW PEW!" It was like an effect from a sci-fi movie.

And again! What is this?

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:22 PM

gross.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:22 PM

It's the pitch speed thing on the score thing.

And dammit, MDC was pitching so well too.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:22 PM

Maggsssssssssssss...

More like--MDC!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:23 PM

This isn't coming back, is it? Argh. At least it was a solo shot.

...I should knock on wood. (does so)

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:23 PM

Ian - Ohh. That makes sense. Thanks. It's pretty annoying though.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:23 PM

It appears as though anytime anyone throws a pitch over 95 MPH, they are making the sound effect.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:23 PM

sigh...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:24 PM

Oki doke time

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:24 PM

Yeah, that makes sense.

OKAJIMAAAA!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:

Okieee

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:25 PM

Okaji in!

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:26 PM

Hi, everyone! I'm late (we had a school band concert), but I'm here now.

I was reading some of the comments above about GameDay, and found this site below that anyone who's using GameDay without any audio might want to check out:
http://www.freebaseballradio.com/

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:26 PM

I would blast Okajima Oki-Doki right now but MY ROOMMATE IS SLEEPING.

Is it a bit hypocritical that she can sleep through the radio and the television and even my pencil sharpener but not my voice, even if I'm talking very quietly on the phone or something?

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:29 PM

Yay J.D.! He's been on tonight!

[ Liza ] says:

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:38 PM

Well, at least Ortiz's on base. He kind of just dropped the bat after ball four though. Just dropped it where he stood.

Let's go Manny, let's go! -clap clap-

[ 1863_project ] says:

Pinch runner! :D

(/shallow)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:47 PM

Liza, I'm blushing with shame here. It's Gameday delay, actually. No radio. It was apparently stuck on the foul right before he hit the double. I had no idea he had gotten a hit. I'm glad he did, though!

[ LifeLongSoxFan ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:48 PM

Jacoby, Baby!!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:48 PM

OH NOES JED AND JACOBY HAVE BEEN SEPARATED.

Just kidding. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Jed said something to him about Taco Bell just to kid him a bit.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:48 PM

LOL, Liza. Fanservice?

[ blood and whiskey ] says:

INTENTIONALLY WALKING JD DREW!

I love this. So much.

[ james ] says:

Ok who ever thought we'd see JD Drew get intentionally walked???

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:49 PM

well he does have 3 hits

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 9:50 PM

Faaaaaanservice indeed!

And ass-slap is up in the pen!

Bases loaded for Sean!!

[ LifelongSoxFan ] says:

on April 10, 2008 9:58 PM

Yo-yoooooooo

[ ecl1958 ] says:

[ Liza ] says:

NO MORE WALKS

Nice recovery play by Coco. Jacoby still has to learn to use the Monster, it seems...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:03 PM

Oh, my FAVORITE commercial EVER!

The worst part is that in this part of PA the biggest supermarket chain is called Giant.

(One wonders if Jed is going to tease Jacoby about that missed catch later. He wouldn't be above it. Hey, they've known each other for seven years now...)

[ Rachel C ] says:

Tavarez is scary.

[ james ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:06 PM

1863 where are you from? I'm from PA as well.

For some reason ive never liked Tavarez. He Even signed a baseball for me last year and i still dont like him for some odd reason. is that wrong of me?

bad things.

And he's never done that, to my knowledge.

[ LifelongSoxFan ] says:

[ 1863_project ] says:

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:10 PM

If I remember Yo-Yo's nickname came from how crazy he was/is and emotions are like a yo-yo.

and this isn't good folks

[ Erin ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:10 PM

For the record, I've always hated Tavarez. And I groaned when I saw he was coming in.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:

[ ecl1958 ] says:

Some people post LOLcats. 1863 posts LOLfails. Cracking up despite the grim situation.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:11 PM

GET HIM OUT OF THERE.

But Pap probably isn't up to the point where he can get six outs...?

OUTS, Tavarez. Ever heard of them?!

(He's annoying me.)

LUGO! YESSS!

[ james ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:11 PM

[ CdnSoxGirl ] says:

[ Erin ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:12 PM

Sure would have been nice to not have Papelbon need to work tonight, considering he'll absolutely be needed this weekend. Thanks a lot, Julian.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:13 PM

so much for a night off for papelbuns

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:13 PM

I also post LOLStanfords because I am obsessed with Jed Lowrie.

(Installment 2)

If you ever wondered what Jed Lowrie and Chris Carter looked like in college...yeah. (Jed had an interesting haircut...)

Thank God for that double play, too!

[ LifelongSoxFan ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:13 PM

Bring on the PAP man so we can get this over with!

[ james ] says:

[ blood and whiskey ] says:

wow.
that inning nearly killed me..

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:16 PM

YES. ABOUT TIME.

[ james ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:17 PM

That was Easy.

I wish the Monster Membership came with MLB.TV premium, watching the games in 400k is painful sometimes.

[ LifelongSoxFan ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:17 PM

Lets get another win, Pap! See, he'll get the job done right so the Yankees can come to town and stink up the visitors locker room.

[ Erin ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:18 PM

According to weather.com, at game time tomorrow, we're just looking at "few showers" so we'll see how that goes.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:18 PM

GOOD TIMES NEVER SEEMED SO GOOD...

C'mon, Lugie. Let's make this easy for Pap.

[ Kara ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:19 PM

Did Casey yell something along the lines of "THAT'S MY BOY!" after that double play?

[ LifelongSoxFan ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:19 PM

WHAT????????

[ james ] says:

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:23 PM

C'mon Papi... you are SO due for at least a hit...

Also, I'm totally tickled that Jacoby's hitting cleanup. Ha.

Jed: Intense.

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:24 PM

NESN bastards didn't say they put the game back on NESN. at least now I can watch the end in HD

[ james ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:24 PM

[ Liza ] says:

a walks as good as a hit Papi

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:25 PM

Oh, he'll fight it for now, but you know Jed is going to have a good laugh over Jacoby batting cleanup later. He's literally the most easily amused person I've ever seen in my life...

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:25 PM

Jacoby hitting cleanup?
heeheehaha.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:25 PM

Biting knuckles...holding my breath...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:29 PM

Cleanup walk! Oh, you know he's getting it later...

NESN should now cut to a shot of the dugout so they can catch Jed and Clay laughing - because I'm positive that they will be.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:30 PM

JD's next... heh...

YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK!

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:31 PM

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:31 PM

Nice! Honestly, like anyone could throw out Jacoby on that one!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:31 PM

and because of yo-yo we had to waste Papelbuns

[ james ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:32 PM

Thoughts, keep papelbon in now, or not? still a save situation technically.

[ njdevils ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:33 PM

The radio said Aardvark's stretching...

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:33 PM

Apparently Aardsma is stretching in the pen...

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:33 PM

Well if Tito manages like he did last year, he takes him out. They haven't said anything about anyone warming up in the Sox pen though

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:34 PM

it'd be nice if RemDawg and his sidekick would tell us that.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:34 PM

NESN hasn't said anything about Aardvark.

YEAH COCO!!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:34 PM

wow, Coco!
woohoo.

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:35 PM

Radio estimates over 300 pitches total have been thrown in this game.

Yay Coco! Way to go!

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:35 PM

I'm going to say he's definitely coming out now. And finally RemDawg mentions something.

No one warming in the pen since they are showing it right now.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:35 PM

Now nobody's up...

[ james ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:35 PM

yea NESN hasnt said anything about anyone up. Ooh go CoCo drive up that trade value! Ok they just said noone is up in the pen

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:35 PM

no one in the pen as they're showing it..

[ Ian ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:36 PM

It's nice that the Red Sox are playing yet another 3 hour plus game with the Yankees coming to town when we all know those games are good to go at least 4 hours.

[ Liza ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:36 PM

Steph - It'd be interesting to see, wouldn't it? The game's been super long--3 1/2 hours as of the bottom of the eighth. Wow.

C'mon, CASEY!

[ 1863_project ] says:
on April 10, 2008 10:37 PM

I'm totally looking up everyone's pitch counts after this game. Yay random stats! (/Chadwick mode)

Sam Fuld is influencing my decisions now, apparently.
