I'm thinking this game is not going to get played tonight and we'll be watching the C's instead.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:38 PM

I need my baseball fix.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:39 PM

Oh my...wasn't aware of the weather issues until I saw your comment, Ian, and decided to jump on Intellicast. Impressive animated radar loop you guys have going on up there.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:40 PM

I'll probably be watching the Mets/Yanks game, unless that gets rained out...

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:41 PM

Me, too, TG. I went a whole ENTIRE DAY yesterday without baseball (unless you count the awesome videos that you posted)!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:47 PM

Yay for TG's video posts! I thoroughly enjoyed those.

Hey nj, is Mets/NYY on national TV?

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:51 PM

It's officially in a rain delay now.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:52 PM

ECL, it's not blacked out on YES Network, so I guess it's not national...
Sunday's game will be, though!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:52 PM

No problem, ecl - posting videos is pretty much my favorite thing to do. So it works out well! :)

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:52 PM

Nope Yanks/Mets are on national tv tomorrow and Sunday

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:54 PM

I lied. Just Sunday's game is on national tv ESPN.

I'm quite shocked they aren't the FOX game tomorrow.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:54 PM

TG, I sent you an e-mail a little while ago, and I was wondering whether or not you received it. I don't remember if I put a subject or not, so it might have gone to your spam folder...

Thanks for the news, Ian...I guess I'll go watch Santana now.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:55 PM

Saturday's game is on here as well, nj! I've planned my entire weekend around watching those two games.

Well, if tonight ends up being rained out, I can catch up on lots of baseball related stuff on line. I also owe e-mail replies to a whole lot of people. What to do first, she asks, pressing finger to forehead...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:55 PM

I'm probably going watch a little Johan myself followed by some KG if the Sox aren't on. It's been a rough 32 hours.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:56 PM

Oh that's right, Ian...I already have this week's Sunday Night Baseball flagged as "should watch if I get a chance." Sorry to miss Santana pitch tonight, though!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:58 PM

njdevils - Don't think I did. Can you send it again?

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 6:58 PM

I sowwy Ian (about the rough 32 hours). :-(

(okay, gotta get back to this project, promised a very important faculty member I'd finish it before I went home tonight...will be back in a few).

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:00 PM

Remy looks really, really jolly tonight.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:02 PM

Okay, I sent it again...I hope it works this time!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:03 PM

He got sauced before the game thinking he wasn't going to have to broadcast the game Texy

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:04 PM

I can relate, Remy.

njdevils: just got it! Lemme read and I'll reply back...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:05 PM

and of course the Yanks/Mets are in a rain delay too

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:09 PM

Cool, TG!
If anyone hasn't read this Fox Sports Article on Manny yet, click the link to see some great quotes on Manny from the rest of the team.

[ jules ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:10 PM

HEY! I'll trade weather with you New Englanders. We have way too much sun and heat--100 degrees right now and hotter tomorrow.

So the Yanks are rain delay, too? Is this Santana's night?

[ jules ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:11 PM

Texy, I need my fix, too. I've got my hat and jersey on and am

LOL on Remy and the mascots.

[ Kim ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:12 PM

Dear Rain,
Go the hell away!
No love,
Kim

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:12 PM

Yes Santana is supposed to pitch.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:13 PM

grr...this game needs to get played tonight...this pitching rotation can not get screwed up! why? well because im going to the game on sunday and Becketts pitching.. =D

[ jules ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:13 PM

ya know...I love the replays of spectacular plays.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:14 PM

Yep, Jules, it's J. Santana vs. D. Rasner.

There's a cool article on Manny with some quotes from the rest of the team about him here if anyone wants to read it during the delay.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:15 PM

Awee man. Stupid rain.
I need my baseball tonight, because my brother is getting married tomorrow and I'll have my ridiculously loud family over on Sunday, so I'll miss both games...

*le sigh*

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:15 PM

Hey jules, I forget, where are you again? Out west? I've been hearing horror stories about 100+ temps out there.

[ jules ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:20 PM

ecl...I'm in Sacramento, CA. We have an early heat wave due to a few different factors (perfect storm of heat ;-). I've got the A/C going, the ceiling fan flying and an iced cold root beer (waiting for hubby to come home to open the white wine).

We usually get a lot of heat in the summer, but have had mild summers on occasion. We had 15 days of over 100 degree heat. 15 straight freakin' days! Our neighborhood is only a couple years old, so the trees aren't helpful yet.

blood and whiskey, congrats to your brother! That's exciting.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:24 PM

Coco: "I'd rather have a game-winning catch than a game-winning homerun."

Good thing, since you're not likely to get the latter, Coco.

[ jules ] says:

My BIL and family were at the Mother's Day Miracle last year--said it was one of the best games he'd seen.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:28 PM

This just came out on the Pro Jo Sox Blog:

Red Sox minor-league first baseman Anthony Rizzo has been diagnosed with limited stage classical Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The Red Sox just released a statement, saying the 18-year-old is being treated as an out-patient at Massachusetts General Hospital's Oncology Unit.

Rizzo will return home to Miami in the next few days to continue his treatment, which is expected to take 6-8 months, according to the release.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Anthony and his family at this very difficult time," said Red Sox GM Theo Epstein. "We are optimistic about his recovery and look forward to the day he can return to the playing field."

The Red Sox selected Rizzo in the sixth round of the 2007 draft. He was hitting .373 with 11 RBI at Single-A Greenville.

[ jules ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:29 PM

Ian, thanks for posting that. I hope Rizzo makes a full recovery.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:31 PM

mlb home page lists Mets/Yanks as postponed.

Any word yet on the status of our game?

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:37 PM

I was at the Mother's Day Miracle game as well. Sat right on top of the bullpen, met Paps, he gave me his warmup ball when we were all going batshit insane in the bleachers after the win. Yeah... it was a pretty good game. ;)

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:37 PM

Awww, that's sad Ian!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:39 PM

b&w, yes congrats to your brother!

jules, I don't know how you folks out west can stand that kind of heat. I wilt and actually become ill once the temps edge above 85. Fortunately, here in the NC mountains that only happens sporadically during the summer...at least usually that's the case. Last summer it was upper 80s/low 90s for several weeks straight. And I don't have AC at home. Misery, pure misery! So I feel for ya!

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:40 PM

And I missed b&w's news - big congrats to him.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:40 PM

Wow, TG -- personal attention from Paps -- way to go!

I'm heading home now. Will be back on line shortly. Hopefully y'all'll still be around.

[ jules ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:42 PM

I *love* our air conditioner and we have ceiling fans in nearly every room. We have very little humidity, which does make it more, er, somewhat tolerable. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and it's *much* cooler and breezier there. You'd think that after 30 years, I'd be used to Sacramento summers, but nope. Still HATE them. /whine

[ jules ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:43 PM

Texy...I'm *officially* jealous.

I've decided that next year, I'm getting Sox/A's tickets for the area by the visiting pen because the pen is close to the fans and looks like a big party.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:45 PM

I don't know what weather forecast the Red Sox were looking at but this doesn't look promising.

[ Mary ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:50 PM

I highly doubt the game is going to happen :(

I really need a game right now...

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:51 PM

We could play charades.

[ jules ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:53 PM

That weather map doesn't look good. If I could pack up this summer weather, I'd ship it out in a heartbeat.

This NESN program with the best of DO and Remy is cracking me up. I love these guys.

But I need some baseball, Red Sox baseball.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 7:56 PM

BAYSBAW GAME!
BAYSBAW GAME!

If you repeat it, they will come...

[ Mary ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:00 PM

I love Remmy and DO soooooo much.
The Dennis Leary bit is quite possibly my favorite thing ever :D

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:02 PM

Kyle Snyder is on the 7-Day DL for the PawSox.

Daniel Bard is getting promoted from Greenville to Portland.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:03 PM

Game 6 for the Green is getting underway in a few on ESPN.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:07 PM

This weather map doesn't look good either. Click the "animated loop" feature above the map to see the progress over the last two hours.

Amazing that the NY game was called when their wetness factor was considerably less severe.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:08 PM

The towels are out in full force in Cleveland tonight.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:09 PM

ecl it rained here pretty good all day so I'm not surprised.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:10 PM

From Amalie :D

While it's still raining, and there have been no updates on the rain situation, the TV schedule this weekend is complicating things even more.

Because the Red Sox are playing on Fox tomorrow and on TBS on Sunday, that makes switching game times all but impossible. So the Sox likely wouldn't be able to play a doubleheader either day (no games are allowed to go up against the Sunday night ESPN exclusive window).
We've been looking at mutual off days on the schedule. There appears to be one on June 26, which would be at the end of a Sox homestand (before the team heads to Houston) and in between games in Atlanta and Minnesota for the Brewers. I doubt that would go over well with either team.

That being said, it looks ugly around here, but there have been no announcements about this game being postponed tonight.

There was a big cheer just now from the crowd on hand -- the Celtics game was put up on the scoreboard in centerfield.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:18 PM

I don't care if the game starts at 10:30, I just want some baseball. Please.

in the meantime- I'm caramelldansing.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:21 PM

Ian, that schedule stuff sounds like a mess indeed!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:26 PM

Rain, listen up. I need baseball, STAT (no pun intended).

Also, OHMYGODRIZZO. He's one of my favorite lower-level prospects. I hope his recovery goes well...

[ christin ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:31 PM

I'm so sad it's on rain delay. :( I'm babysitting and I don't really have much else to do besides watch TV (I feel bad going all over the internet on someone else's computer) and the kiddo is already in bed. I guess I could invade their DVR library... I think they have House. =D

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:33 PM

jayson werth has 3 home runs for the Phillies against the Jays and it's only the 5th inning.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:35 PM

Jayson Werth may be the skeeviest ballplayer around, but he can smack some taters for sure.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:35 PM

Werth is on a Wroll.

(Sorry, couldn't resist...)

[ Mary ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:39 PM

GODDAMNIT.

I really needed a game tonight :(

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:43 PM

My amateur weather opinion says it will be at least 10 PM before this thing starts. They didn't have a chance to get the field ready plus the rain has at least another hour or so..

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:43 PM

Tonight's game has been postponed due to rain.
It will be played tomorrw in the second game of a split doubleheader (separate admission). First game at 3:55 p.m, second game at 8:35 p.m.
If you've got tickets for last night's game, they are good for the night game.
Go home and get some sleep.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:43 PM

Well at least it's a Friday.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:44 PM

Oops. That last one was me.

Games banged until tomorrow night.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:44 PM

Ian, are they really seriously going to play a game with a 3+ hour delay?

[ Liza ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:44 PM

Never mind.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:45 PM

Oops -- posted too soon. Ian, what are the chances that Game 2 will be carried on national TV? Can you find out and post it, if not here, then on your site? Thx

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:48 PM

Game 2 will be broadcast on NESN

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:51 PM

I'm just waiting to hear what the pitching matchups will be tomorrow. I'd think Dice-K would get the afternoon game.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:52 PM

Well harrumph, that doesn't help little ol' me down here in North Carolina! Oh well...two out of three ain't bad, as they say.

[ Karen ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:52 PM

I'm bummed it's not on. However it is probably a good thing, since I leave for the airport at 2am. Going back to Boston, will be at Fenway Thursday.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 16, 2008 8:58 PM

Have a good night. Y'all. I'm going to watch the C's now and then last night's CSI and Earl. Maybe go the home depot to get some curtains.

Thanks to our gracious host who forgot to close the dome ;)

[ ecl1958 ] says:

After I (finally) eat dinner, I'll be on line...may see some of you around the various blogs and LJs this evening. If not...I'll be popping in and out while I watch the 1st game on Fox...probably more present here tomorrow night. See y'all!

[ jenny again ] says:

how epic that BOTH games tomorrow will be while i'm at work. D:

i'm sure i can find lots to do in the receiving area tomorrow (where the radio is).

GO SOX. ;D

g'night, friends!

[ Jane ] says:
on May 16, 2008 9:21 PM

Welp, I arrived late to the party to find out it has been rescheduled. Meh, mother nature is a cruel wench at times.

Hopefully I'll be home in time to see the game tomorrow afternoon. I'm going to see the Pawsox v. the SWB Yankees tomorrow.

I'm. So. PUMPED.

Take care, all!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 16, 2008 9:47 PM

Jane, you are? I'm seeing those same teams on Memorial Day! Have a great time...

[ Jane ] says:
on May 16, 2008 10:41 PM

Thanks, Liza! I seriously cannot wait. It's my first ever PawSox game and my first game at PNC Field since they were taken over by Satan's baby pinstripes. The park used to be the home of the Red Barons. But now, the enemey has nested which means I have to further defend my Sox fandom even more seeing as how I now technically live in (gulp) Yankee territory.

I'm giddy though. Very giddy.

[ jules ] says:
on May 17, 2008 11:18 AM

"Satan's baby pinstripes"

That's funny.

I can't imagine how tired the guys will be after two games today (one starting at 8:35!) and playing early tomorrow. I sure hope that tonight's game (the makeup) is shown in EI.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 17, 2008 3:57 PM

Thanks, Jules. Ha. Yeah, I don't like them.

Happy gametime, folks.
