My favorite Heidi quote so far was from yesterday I think, when she said that Lugo's poor defensive performance was "something that he hopes to, kind of, get rid of."
I have a question about that for people who would know better than me. I know the pitchers are selected by players and such for the All-star team. When do they announce who it will be? The same time as the others that are chosen?
The AL managers will select the AL pitchers (and reserve players), NL managers select the NL pitchers (and reserves). Fan voting until July 2nd, rosters announced July 6 (which include pitchers and reserves, I think). Final spot on each team determined by fan vote.
yeah Liza, it's the first time they've blocked the pregame report but shown the game. Usually if they block one then both are blocked. I don't know what is up with all this. I think if you pay the fee you should be able to watch the channels and programs you want
Ian I'm guessing Tito is capitalizing on circumstance again. There's something real going on with Youk's hand but it sounds pretty minor. Plus he could probably use a rest by now.
The better to let him play in the games I'm at! :)
I shall make all of you New Englanders jealous by revealing that last night that I slept with my windows open for the first time this year. Ahhhh, heaven! And tonight will be the same. :-)
Watching college baseball this weekend, I was reminded it was 95 and 100% humidity in Austin. And that's not even the gulf coast. That's when I remembered how awesome it is to live in New England.
OMG, the weather today! Several DOWPOURS.
I had an unbrella and in say a .25 mile walk from the T ended up looking like I had been thrown in the river. I might have just as well swam across the Charles.
Di, we do get pretty nasty heat and humidity around August. Nothing compared to "down the mountain," though, as Bethie can attest to. The NC/SC Piedmont is brutal in the summer.
The worst part of the rain today for me...I had to take a bus from Cambridge to Allston, and there was rusty, greasy dart water leaking from random spots in the ceiling. i was so happy I wasn't wearing light colored clothing, because it would have been ruined. Sometimes I really hate the MBTA.
Meghan, my train home just stopped in the station for about ten minutes, so I'll echo the "sometimes I hate the MBTA" sentiment. At least it had AC, though...
I'll probably go to bed about my normal time of 2 AM, get up at 8:30 write the morning post, take my morning nap, wake up and do a few things, then take my afternoon siesta so I am refreshed for when the late game starts again tomorrow night
I'd give anything to actually have NESN - I had to pay $90 to watch mlb.tv. It doesn't show all the good stuff (like pregame shows ) and I hate the delay; by the time I see something happen in the game, there's already 10 posts about it.
I... will get to bed around the end of the game (whenever that will be), wake up at 6:30, and sleep through Spanish class tomorrow. Like I did last night.
Di, at least we don't get the heat indices of 105+. It's just muggy and in the upper 80s/low 90s here, which bad enough, as I have MS and am heat intolerant. The mountains are the only place in the South where I can live...although there's a part of me that is starting to think about moving back up North.
Let's see...I'll go to bed after the game, actually fall asleep several hours later, the alarm will go off at 7:00, I'll plead with it until 8:30, get to work by 9:30 and go face-first on my keyboard until my second mug of coffee.
I hope RemDawg gets all over Orsillo for this question and answer from today's chat that I aasked.
beisbolct (16:45): Since you think you can dance, who would win a dance-off, you or Pedroia?
Don Orsillo (16:45): Based on seeing Dustin dance in person during the Mike Lowell Foundation Dancing with the Stars, I am going to say that without question I am a better dancer!
And with that, au revoir to me as well. Must. Get. Sleep. Enjoy the rest of the game, y'all...and could you please tell Manny I want to see news of 499 when I wake up in the morning? thx
Argyle will always have diamonds and diagonal lines. Plaid will always have horizontal and vertical lines. Tartan can be either argyle or plaid. /part-Scottish ancestry
Ooh, I'm jealous. I kind of love him. But since I hadn't really heard of him until recently, do you know why he might be hitting so poorly lately (aside from the sore thumb, I think it was)?
He's not ever really been that stellar of a hitter. He was .300 in A ball, and sub-.300 in AA and AAA (hovering around .270 or so). His calling card is his defense, though - he's a GRINDER. He's GRITTY.
Ian, I think what Liza is trying to say is kind of like the "We Sorta Did" commericals. I speak teenager, so I understood it right away, but it's hard to explain.
But he pulls off the GRIT with panache, no? Plus brains. He's going for his master's in stats from Stanford (which is the thing that really gets me...).
He's not 5'11. Not anywhere close. Theriot is taller than him, and that's not sayin' much. I think the Cubs even list him at 5'9 or 5'10, to be generous. I bet he's 5'7... maybe 5'8. Now, that's still taller than me, mind you.
An inch is still taller. Therefore, it still works. Of course, I'm the 5'4 girl who has a 6'0 minimum for guys I date... because I'm selfish like that.
Also, he is precious. And very geekily excited about being a ballplayer in Cubbie pinstripes.
The Stangers would be a movie I'd see after a few drinks, because I would probably find it more amusing than scary then. And maybe not remember the scary parts anyway.
Bad apostrophes bug, but no matter how much they're (their :) misused, they're still incorrect. Begging the question misuse REALLY bugs, because people have misused it so much, it's now starting to take on the misused meaning as some kind of alternate "modern" use. Horseshit.
My school's superduper strict. If you skip, you get an in-school suspension. So I don't skip. Plus, I like most of my classes... but my Spanish teacher doesn't actually teach us anything so I just sleep and yell snarky comments from the back of the class and I still have a 100 average in that class.
Di- That pretty much how I am. I really love watching them. But the ones that are somewhat "realistic" (like serial killer shit...not supernatural) freak me out occasionally because I am a loser:-P
Seriously, Di? Here's a question--what does "Por un lado ___, pero por otro lado ____" mean? Is it like "On one hand ___, but on the other hand ____"? (It would be really nice if my teacher actually told us what the words mean.)
OK, here's the plan:
We're going to get some hits.
We're going to score a run. Or two.
We're not going to make any errors (thanks to E6 being gone).
We're not going to throw meatballs up the middle of the plate.
I'm going to see my first R-rated movie tomorrow (with my parents' permission, of course); we're watching "Saving Private Ryan" in AP US History. I've heard that it's pretty gory; can anyone attest to that? I want to be a little prepared for it tomorrow...

Heidi: cute sweater, but we don't "have a pretty good idea" who's going to be on the All-Star Team. This was just the first ballot.
