all right, beckett. PLEASE RIGHT THIS SHIP. no pressure or anything. ;D

OH WAIT YOU LOVE PRESSURE.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 6:56 PM

Exactly! If anyone's gonna turn us around, it's Beckett...No questions asked.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 6:57 PM

Good evening! Trying to get sane after a hellacious day at work. I hope Commander Kickass will help me feel better.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:01 PM

I hope Beckett kicks some serious arse tonight....

Even if I don't get to see it. Damn blackouts!

At least I have the radio. *shrugs*

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:02 PM

I probably won't be around here very long tonight. I have my AP English Lang. Exam tommorow; there's not really anything I can do to study for it, so getting enough sleep is probably the best thing I can do.
And with Beckett on the mound, I'll know I'll be able to sleep well tonight!

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:03 PM

nice to see beckett's plane from mpls got him there safely. i hope he and jonny got a good night's sleep! ;D

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:06 PM

Evening, y'all!

The baseball gods have smiled upon me--I can watch Commander Kickass lead the Fuck Yeah Brigade on my big screen with surround sound, with the added bonus that Jim Palmer's the MASN color guy instead of the incredibly annoying Buck Martinez.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:08 PM

god, i love all the cheering. FENWAY SOUTH!

[ Anonymous ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:10 PM

Fenway Mid-Atlantic. Tropicana Field is Fenway South.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:11 PM

FENWAY SOUTH-OF-ME. ;D

c'mon, big papi!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:11 PM

It also doubles as Yankee Stadium Mid-Atlantic, although admittedly at the one Sox/O's game I've attended there were more Sox fans there than I've seen Yankees fans--and that's saying something.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:12 PM

nice piece of hitting, papi.

ok, manny. do what you do, big guy!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:12 PM

Okay, those dreads are getting a little out of control.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:13 PM

Too bad Ellsbury isn't playing because then it'd be 46 vs. 46. Anyone get excited about when those things happen?

Here's my "two cents" on Coco: I think he's really stepping his game up this year because he has some competition in CF and might be traded, so he wants to 1) prove to other teams he's awesome, 2) show the Red Sox he's awesome, or 3) both.

Alex Cora's batting average is golden.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:15 PM

About Trish's comment on the dreads: I totally agree. They're cool to a point, and then they get a little annoying.

YEEEAH!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:15 PM

Is Jacoby out with the bruised knee?

Yeah Manny!

(By the way, I won't be around much--I have to analyze some DNA sequences for my bio class, among other things. Loads of fun.)

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:16 PM

Hi everyone...after a crazy weekend I'm looking foward to a relaxing night of watching Josh kick some ass.....I did get some great birthday presents....though I think my favorite is my Beckett bobble head....or maybe my 'bring it like beckett" t-shirt....my coworkers know me too well =)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:18 PM

Oh, poor Tito...

Yay for another run, though.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:18 PM

This is starting nicely.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:18 PM

jacoby is available tonight if need be, but they're resting him if they don't need him. plus, coco's playing GREAT so letting ells rest a bit more makes sense.

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:18 PM

Happy birthday, Kristina! Where can you get a Bring It Like Beckett shirt?

Oh--and F*** KEVIN YOUKILIS

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:20 PM

trish...you can order it from here....
http://www.chowdaheadz.com/bring-it-like-beckett-girly-t-shirt-red.html

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:20 PM

Multitasking here during a phone call...did Manny's dreads do something bad? I like them as long as he keeps them somewhat in check...

back in a moment

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:20 PM

Trish do we have to have another 'talk'? ;)

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:20 PM

kristina- Happy late birthday!! I'm planning on getting that shirt sometime soon! (once I get some money... I might also have to get a new iPod because someone stole mine, grr)

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:21 PM

Happy birthday Kristina!

HAH. Thanks, Millar!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:22 PM

As a Yankees fan I am required by law to loathe one Red Sox player. It used to be Damon (and even though he's on the Yankees I still don't like him), now it's Youkilis. Deal. ;)

Jesus, between the chants of LET'S GO RED SOX and lousy play it sucks to be an O tonight.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:22 PM

I love Kevin Millar dearly, but- YES! And that kind of reminds me of... something else.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:22 PM

I love JD Drew!!
Not as much as Beckett, but still lots of love there.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:23 PM

millar! TROJAN HORSE! ;D

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:23 PM

Millar so did that on purpose:-P

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:24 PM

all right, beckett. you're staked to a 3-0 lead. go show 'em how you do it, kid. (nnngh.)

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:24 PM

Okay, Beckett time! YAHOOOO!

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:25 PM

thanks everyone....it was a good day even though it was a Monday.....ibut it makes me smile that my birthday falls the same week as my favorite ass kicking pitcher....yes, we are only one year and three days apart...i'm sad I know =)

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:26 PM

If this is Birdland, I fear for the Birds.

HELLOOOO JOSH

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:26 PM

we all know Millar really wants to be a sock!

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:27 PM

Well as a Yankee fan you have much to hate and fear in Youk so I can accept that.

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:27 PM

BecKett

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:28 PM

Hate, yes. Fear, no.

LOL, they just showed the O's manager saying the only way they could beat Josh was if it started raining.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:30 PM

10 pitch first inning. I'll take it.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:30 PM

3 asses summarily Kicked.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:30 PM

1-2-3.....he feels bad they lossed on my birthday...so he's determined to kick some O's ass tonight =)

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:31 PM

kristina- 1 year 3 days?! That's like only 368 (or 369) days! It's definitely meant to be... ;)

(random: I had a dream last night and it was in my point of view on my wedding day and Josh Beckett was at down the aisle smiling at me. Twas a bit funny. Best man= Pap)

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:34 PM

ok, Pap would totally give the greates best man speech....I'm picturing it now =)...and Cora's average is awesome!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:35 PM

Happiness is husband-approved Josh ogling!

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:35 PM

seven game hit streak for pedey.

:D
:D
:D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:38 PM

Back...

Happy belated birthday, Kristina! And Liza, that's pretty impressive, DNA sequences for school assignments already!

Condolences to Tito.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:39 PM

yes Trish, the future husband says he's ok with the school girl cruch I have as long as it's partly because he's the most ass-kickingest pitcher in baseball (yes, those are Matt's words) =)

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:41 PM

My husband has a slight mancrush on Josh. :D

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:42 PM

Trish, LOL about required by law to hate one Sox player! Funny, I liked Damon much better when he was still with the Sox, even though I was still a Yankees fan at the time. Once he got to New York I decided I didn't like him very much at all.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:46 PM

(hates Damon with a fiery burning passion)

And Ecl, it's pretty easy--but positively tedious and it is REALLY easy to make mistakes. If I misread an H as an N in 8-point font, I've screwed up. :P

That was a vicious fastball. o.o

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:48 PM

68 online? Wow.

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:48 PM

OH WHAT THE FUCK JOSH

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:49 PM

GRRRRR...

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:51 PM

ok, there we go.....i

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:52 PM

jenny wants MORE RUNS, sox. whee!

[ Piney61 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:53 PM

....did my college just get a shoutout on NESN? I think it did....

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:53 PM

kristina agrees jenny...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:53 PM

Choco, I was just thinking the same thing. At the moment it's 70.

Liza, that does sound rather tedious. I don't recall doing DNA sequences in bio class. The odd thing about that is that there was and still is a noted bio lab in my home town (Watson and Crick worked there for years), and there were a lot of scientists' kids at my school. You'd think DNA would have been the first thing we did in bio class!

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:54 PM

here's a random question: is it more prevalent in MLB for the home dugout to be on the first base side or the third base ... ?

fenway: first
metrodome: third
camden yards: first
skydome: third

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:57 PM

CSI: Boston! Heck yes. I love CSI!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:58 PM

Nice play by Marakakis.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:59 PM

Aw, jd gave that ball a nice smack.
Nice catch. :(

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 7:59 PM

Aw... great catch.

[ Melissa ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:04 PM

Not watching (or GameDaying) the game tonight because I'm up to my ears in book edits, but I'll be checking in from time to time to see how the boys are doing - and wishing I was at the game! I like half an hour from B-more...

But I'm going to the June 1st game with one of my coworkers/best friends - my first live Sox game since 2004. Howe psyched am I?

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:04 PM

i don't know why i seem so averse to the o's getting any hits off josh. world isn't ending! let's go sox!

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:04 PM

Jim Rice on Lowrie: http://ask14.sullivantire.com/?p=69

[ kristina ] says:

awww Dammit

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:06 PM

Ow.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:06 PM

Yeeow--rolled over it. OUCH.

Melissa - That's my birthday! Have a fun time. :)

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:07 PM

RUH ROH.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:07 PM

And here comes Jacoby...

I hope he's okay. Sheeit. =/

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:08 PM

Jacoby =D

I HOPE DREW FEELS BETTER!! He was doing really well, too. But now I get to see my 46 vs. 46!

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:08 PM

Aw JD, can't fault the effort.
And that clearly hurt - that wrist is already visibly swollen.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:08 PM

Awww, JD, bless his heart.

At least Jacoby isn't too sore to fill in for him.

[ Melissa ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:08 PM

Thanks Liza. *grins* Now if only the pitching rotation cooperates and Wake isn't pitching that day - I adore Wakey, but I'm dying to see Tek.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:09 PM

i think watching ellsbury do yoga would be fun. kid's wicked flexible.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:09 PM

I second Jenny.

[ Texas Gal ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:09 PM

Home dugouts from the parks I've been to:

White Sox - 3B
Cubs - 3B
Indians - 3B
Astros - 1B
Phillies - 1B
Rockies - 1B
Marlins - 1B
Brewers - 1B
Yankees - 1B

[ jenny again ] says:

"humped up." thanks, remy. ;D

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:11 PM

BecKKett

I'm going to Chicago next weekend, got tickets to Angels/White Sox Sunday night, sitting on the third base line.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:12 PM

Trish- Lucky! I love the Angels!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:13 PM

BecKKKett

And Jim Palmer just talked about "executing pitches."

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:13 PM

god that's dirty.

becKKKett.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:15 PM

yeah...we like that one

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:15 PM

Ugh whats up with the Metrodome and Camden both playing that Cranberries song? Boo.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:15 PM

"all right, tek, this is how i'm going to strike this asshole out. got it? good."

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:15 PM

Liza- I was seriously just thinking that I'm starting to take a fondness to Markakis, and then I think "I know Liza loves Millar, but I wonder who else she likes on the Orioles..." and I go check. No way! "Orioles: KEVIN MILLAR, Nick Markakis" Wow.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:16 PM

"or, you know, i'll let him single to left. whichever."

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:16 PM

grrrrr

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:16 PM

I blame all this on Josh shaving his arms.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:16 PM

That didn't work out the way we planned.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:17 PM

He shaved his arms?

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:18 PM

Uh...that ain't good.

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:18 PM

YES AND THIS HAS DISTURBED THE COMMANDER KICKASS MOJO

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:18 PM

oh we don't like that

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:18 PM

josh? execute pitches.

(i now require chocolate.)

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:18 PM

NOO. This cannot be another last night where we score 3 in the first inning and then they get seven.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:18 PM

@@%&*&)&%$@#

This is starting to look unfortunately familiar.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:20 PM

oh i'm sure glad thats over.....more runs please

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:20 PM

Thank you Jacoby.
Now, bats: KILL.

[ starr4 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:21 PM

Ah, Commander Kickass... If you don't start executing your pitches, I'm gonna kick your ample ass.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:22 PM

Choco - That's crazy. You should do a list! :)

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:22 PM

Did NESN show Josh dropping any f-bombs in the dugout? Assaulting a water cooler?

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:23 PM

I'm getting more and more depressed over here. Crap.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:23 PM

Trish - Nope, he's just sitting next to Manny right now.

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:25 PM

If he's going to screw up he should at least entertain us with some creative profanity.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:28 PM

Josh? Are you in there?

I'm late to the game. And I might retreat again. Yowzah.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:28 PM

hoo boy guthrieKKKKKK.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:28 PM

F^&K......we need a quick inning by mr. beckett

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:30 PM

ex-e-cute!

ex-e-cute!

ex-e-cute!

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:32 PM

NINE HITS. ALREADY. JEEEEESUS.

this is me not panicking. i swear.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:33 PM

Sweet dp. We needed that.

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:34 PM

DP

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:34 PM

definetly needed that...ok bats, your turn

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:34 PM

nice work, boys. now? BATS. get them out.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:36 PM

this game is making it kind of easy for me to do my Civil War project...

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:36 PM

A sprain? ...Shit.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:39 PM

MANNY!

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:40 PM

come on Mike....

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:41 PM

WTF

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:42 PM

Yeesh--great play. :P

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:42 PM

Seriously?

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:43 PM

BISCUITRY!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:44 PM

BecKKKKett

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:45 PM

Liza- Well I'm getting favorite players as we play different teams or as I watch different teams play, so my list will be probably be complete sometime at the end of this season... I know, I'm lame.

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:49 PM

Damn, Luke Scott's got Josh's number.

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:52 PM

BecKKKKKett

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:53 PM

nice getting out of that one...ok really boys....runs would be good now

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:53 PM

I was just checking in and I saw this comment by Trish:
"I blame all this on Josh shaving his arms."
Umm, WHAT?!?
I don't get NESN, and, even if I did, I'm half-studying, half-listening to the game, so I probably would have missed it anyway if it was on the radio... So does anyone have an explanation or verification of this...?
I'm really curious/disturbed...

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:53 PM

becKKKKKett was NOT happy coming off the mound at the end of that inning.

COME ON BATS. PLEASE?

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:55 PM

Look at pictures of Josh from last year and look at his forearms. Now look at pictures from this year. He's manscaping.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:56 PM

I dig that, Trish. I dig that.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:56 PM

Me too, NJ (do you mind if I call you NJ?)

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:57 PM

must.
get.
into.
o's.
bullpen.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:57 PM

I predict some serious f-bomb dropping, eye rolling and wtf looks for any post game interview that Beckett has to do. I'm not even watching and I can picture the disgusted look on his face

Also might have a few "executing pitches" sprinkled in.

Actually that won't be much different from the norm. :)

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 8:58 PM

bethie - that's just how we like him.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:00 PM

agreed Jenny. That's affirmative.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:00 PM

oh I am getting angry

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:00 PM

Jenny, I like your thinking.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:02 PM

I miss our offense. Just a bit.

Rally, boys. Rally!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:02 PM

wtf, Youk in right?

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:02 PM

Now playing right field...Kevin Youkilis!

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:03 PM

Youk in the outfield? WTF??

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:03 PM

Youk? Whaaaaaaaa the helllllllllll?

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:04 PM

Choco- NJ, Devils, NJ Devils, Brittany (my real name), or any other name you can think of is fine with me!

Wow, Trish. I didn't notice that before, but you're 100% correct.
Compare this to this. Wow.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:04 PM

Youk in the outfield...confused

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:04 PM

could someone fill me in on the changes please?

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:04 PM

I hope everyone else is okay, because with Youk in right and Lugo concussed, we officially have Kevin Cash on the bench (and uninjured).

(I just typed "Doug Mirabelli." D:)

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:04 PM

The WRKO guys said that "Coco was forced to leave the game," but they don't know why. Anyone?

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:05 PM

Casey to first.
Youk to right field (WTF).
Ellsbury to center field.

... Golly.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:05 PM

Wow--he was a grizzly bear last year. And HAH, the arms make me laugh.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:06 PM

Tito to Mills: "I'm away one night and you did WHAT??

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:06 PM

I think I like hairy Josh a little better.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:06 PM

nj/brittany, josh was nicely grizzled in that first pic. He actually looks younger w/o the hair.

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:07 PM

thanks Jane :)

...there are a crapload of people here tonight.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:07 PM

Yeah, I like the hairy version better too.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:07 PM

NJ- okay! Holy crap. I think he did! That's... uh... really weird.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:09 PM

as they say in minnesota: uff dah

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:09 PM

Aw come on, theres gotta be lots of reasons for guys to shave their arms! Like losing a bet;-)

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:10 PM

Whoa, Jolie, you're right--65 people online! Is that a record of some sort?

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:10 PM

Yeah, Josh and manscaping, not a combination I expected to see.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:10 PM

No problem, Jolie. The Youkness in RF is just puzzling. But he can basically play any position on that field, can't he? Like, blindfolded or something?

This game is madness.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:10 PM

doesn't Buchholz shave his too?

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:10 PM

...I like Josh with less facial hair. But the shaved arms weird me out. Less wind resistance for his release, maybe? xD

Also, looks like the Sox are going to have to make a roster move after the game... considering they have two right now. (freaks out at the possibility of Chris Carter or Jon Van Every coming up to Boston)

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:11 PM

Upset stomach for Coco:-P

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:11 PM

(sigh of relief) Coco's got an upset stomach. Poor guy, though. :(

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:11 PM

man, coco must be feeling pretty rotten - poor guy.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:12 PM

Back-to-back walks form Beckett?
We are in Bizarro World.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:12 PM

...and here comes MDC.

Is anyone else a little wary of the possibility of another debilitating sickness in the clubhouse?

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:13 PM

Liza- I agree. I think it has to do with resistance. Swimmers train while hairy and shave before big meets to up their time. I'm guessing it's a similar principal.

But did he really just WALK two people?

I think he needs a hug.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:13 PM

damn y are there so many ppl online tonight! lol.

also, i was switching back and fourth between the game and american idol-- whos in for crisp now?

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:13 PM

Hell, I have an upset stomach from this game.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:13 PM

Lindsay, Youk's in right. Jacoby moved over to center.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:13 PM

oh god. beckett is PISSED.

hoo boy.

HIDE YOUR WATERCOOLERS!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:13 PM

Oh, Josh is PISSED.

And as he goes, so do I--enjoyable as always, guys, take care!

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:14 PM

...what the HELL is going on.
frickin' gameday is making my stomach lurch. someone tell me that it's just malfunctioning!

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:14 PM

Liza, I think you're right with the wind resistance theory! =D
I also like Meghan's idea of losing a bet!

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:14 PM

Youk?! wtf?! lol. this is one strange game! lol.

[ jules ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:14 PM

Hi All!

:: waves ::

Where is the Commander Kiss Ass we all know and love? I just got home and saw YOUUUK in right field, and Beckett behind. WTH?

Thoughts and prayers with Tito's family.

Texy, was your blog promoted somewhere? You had some serious traffic earlier.

Gotta run and do the dinner thing.

GO SOX!

[ Trish ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:14 PM

Oh, Josh is PISSED.

And as he goes, so do I--enjoyable as always, guys, take care!

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:15 PM

Jolie- I'm watching on Gameday too. And it's effing up for me too.

I cannot believe this game. What the hell is going on?

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:15 PM

oh I think we got some Beckett cursing himself...come on MDC, you just need one out

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:15 PM

come on manny! you need to come out of your little pitching slump!!

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:15 PM

Bye, Trish! Thanks for enlightening us with Josh's, um, manscaping(?).

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:17 PM

I don't know how I feel about the manscaping....doesn't seem to suit him....ok boys, we need runs as to avoid any damage to water coolers

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:18 PM

Jules (and TG, if you look here later and haven't seen this!) - Look here.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:18 PM

If GameDay is being weird for some of you, try using ESPN's GameCast here. I'm not sure if it's updated as quickly as GameDay, but it's the same idea.

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:18 PM

Yeah, there was some yelling at himself after he gave up the second walk. One of the words definitely rhymed with "duck."

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:18 PM

all right hitters, knock guthrie out, get beckett off the hook.

amen.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:19 PM

Hey Lindsay- who's your favorite on American Idol?

Yay! Hits hits hits!

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:21 PM

hits are good

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:21 PM

first part has come true! see ya, guthrie. LET'S GO SOX.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:24 PM

nj: My first look at GameCast. I sorta like the style there. Definitely must bookmark!

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:26 PM

ecl, I usually automatically use GameDay, but it seems like GameCast is updating at the same speed, which I didn't expect (but don't mind at all!).

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:26 PM

come on boys...this is what we call opportunity!

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:26 PM

81 freaking people online.

HI MAKE YOURSELVES KNOWN. Feelin' a little uncomfortable here.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:27 PM

85 people. wow. :D

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:27 PM

BASES LOADED, NO OUTS.
come on now!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:27 PM

Manny can't hit with the bases loaded

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:27 PM

LOADED.

FOR MANNY.

::KNOCKS WOOD::

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:28 PM

Chill, Jolie, you're among friends.

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:28 PM

MANNY DO SOMETHING.

and then you can save good ole 500 for Fenway. It's all good.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:28 PM

crossing fingers

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:28 PM

I don't trust superstitions in the clutch.

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:29 PM

I have...friends?

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:29 PM

my stomach is nervous.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:29 PM

I'd have to assume that most of the people who are listed as online aren't actually viewing the game thread but rather are looking at the awesome Papelbon craps post that our gracious host did yesterday since it was picked up by a bunch of national sites today.

Congrats on that by the way Texy. Extra Mustard brings a ton of traffic as we both know.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:29 PM

Yeah, I'm with you, Jolie -- lurkers are welcome to introduce yourselves -- we don't bite! :-)

nj: I automatically go for Gameday too, at the same time that I log on to access the audiocast.

Good potential here, y'all...(rubbing hands together in anticipatory glee)...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:31 PM

LOL Jolie -- I CAN HAZ FRENDZ?

C'mon Manny!

[ Jane ] says:

Oh my goodness.
Oh my goodness.
Oh my goodness.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:35 PM

MAKE HIM WORK, MANNY!

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:35 PM

WTF!!!

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:36 PM

OK that was the worst possible scenario.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:36 PM

that is not what we needed

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:36 PM

@#$&^#$$W#

GRRRRRR

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:36 PM

Woof.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:37 PM

alright, alright.
Mikey...?

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:37 PM

Double Shit.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:37 PM

hold me

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:37 PM

Actually, Ian, the worst possible scenario would have been a triple play, like Asdrubal Cabrera made last night.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:38 PM

wow.
wowoowowow.
that sucked.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:38 PM

WHAT
THE
HECK

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:38 PM

You have got to be shitting me.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:38 PM

you've got to be kidding me

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:39 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:39 PM

WTF is the matter with our guys? (sigh)

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:40 PM

what happened to my becks?

[ Erin ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:40 PM

Hey everyone sorry for not posting. This game really blows how can you not score when the bases are loaded?

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:40 PM

hmmm.

how do i put a positive spin on this ... ?

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:41 PM

just tell me jenny

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:41 PM

really guys....i know this wasn't josh's best game....but we haven't scored a run since the first inning

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:41 PM

there is no easy way to put it

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:41 PM

Hold me.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:41 PM

Josh shaved his awesome off.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:42 PM

nice K manny del!

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:42 PM

no way.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:42 PM

Jenny, all I can think of is that the Yankees are losing to the Rays right now.
Actually, I take that back. The Rays are a half a game from first...I guess there is no positive side afterall...

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:42 PM

One small positive -- a heck of a Manny battle, even if it didn't end the way we would have liked (or expected).

[ Piney61 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:43 PM

To be quite honest, this is practically the Murphy's Law of ballgames for the Red Sox. They got snakebitten, injured, throw-uppy, and well....you name it, shit has happened. I can't really say much else but that. *shrugs shoulders* Oh well, tomorrow's another day, right?

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:44 PM

di - the o's came out flying and v. v. aggressive and they didn't miss josh's mistakes and they capitalized on all opportunities, whereas, so far, the red sox have not.

the end. (through 7 1/2.)

also, josh didn't look bad, just unlucky.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:45 PM

Tomorrow's another day and I won't be able to really follow the game to any extent because I'll be at work, dammit!

Ah well, maybe they'll be feeling better by the time they get home.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:45 PM

whoa, hey, this one ain't done yet! i'm not giving up! ::clings::

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:45 PM

and i didn't even call home for the score because i was so sure he was kicking ass

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:47 PM

it's not over till it's over.....but I think our boys need a nap....

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:48 PM

Well, this game has been...ah....fun. Gameday has denied me from seeing a full inning and the radio broadcast quit in the 2nd. So, I'm calling it a night. See you all tomorrow and what will hopefully be a better game!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:49 PM

Wondering what radio broadcast Bethie is listening to. My Gameday audio has been working just fine.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:49 PM

g'night, bethie! sweet sox dreams!

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:50 PM

mmm ... nap ...

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:50 PM

ecl, a lot of that has to do with my piece of crap computer. :) It doesn't like to multi-task. lol

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:51 PM

Bethie, you can try this in place of GameDay.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:52 PM

For those without NESN/those who didn't know... Bonds was today charged with 14 counts of perjury, in addition to his 1 count of obstruction of justice.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:53 PM

Ah yes, the single-minded computer. No fun. Hopefully nj's link will do better for ya.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:53 PM

Thanks, Liza. I just read that a bit ago on Ian's site. Crazy stuff. Not crazy like this game crazy. But crazy all in it's own right.

[ choco ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:57 PM

I gotta get off the computer (my dad came home and has watermelon!) but I'm going to keep watching the game (and post game). I am a firm believer in Papi's infinite wisdom of "the game is not over until the last out" Talk to you all tomorrow hopefully!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 9:58 PM

C'mon Alex, time to work on your batting average...

ATTA BOY, AC! ATTA BOY, ELLS!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:00 PM

YEAH Alex! Great running Jacoby!

Papi has the right idea. I've always believed the same.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:00 PM

that Cora...he's multitalented...he can hit, he can dance...and he can turn Tek on!

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:00 PM

UGH YES. GET US BACK INTO THIS GAME!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:00 PM

Jacoby is SO FREAKIN FAST.

And he was walking all slow... his knee had better be okay =/

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:00 PM

that Cora...he's multitalented...he can hit, he can dance...and he can turn Tek on!

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:01 PM

liza - SRSLY. ::clings to ells::

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:01 PM

And he can field. Don't forget that. :P

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:02 PM

whoa, sherrill! YOUR HAT, MAN.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:02 PM

sorry for the double post....my computer went a little crazy for a minute

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:02 PM

And he's intelligent, don't forget that either!

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:02 PM

COME ON PLEATS.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:03 PM

Or the alternative...

I don't trust Pleats in the clutch...

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:04 PM

damn.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:04 PM

you gotta be freakin kidding me. he couldn't "buckner" that one like he did in the first inning.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:04 PM

aww biscuits. (i still love you, pedey.)

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:04 PM

awww dammit...well, we still have the 9th....and we only need one

[ Piney61 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:05 PM

Hey! I saw him first! (about Cora) :P Also, hooray for making the game interesting, I guess.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:06 PM

Millar forgot he's suppose to help us....go talk to him Sean....i'm laughing at the idea of a Casey/Millar conversation....who would get the last word in =)

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:06 PM

I thought we didn't say "buckner" anymore.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:07 PM

I'd love to know what those two were talking about over there.

And no one would get the last word in kristina. they'd just call it a tie and do it again next time.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:10 PM

You're right fc. We have forgiven him. I shall punish myself now by not commenting for a 5 minute period.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:13 PM

LOL...Ian's in the penalty box.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:13 PM

Come on Aahsmer...

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:14 PM

Okay... Papi, Manny, Mikey coming up...

Of course, I trust none of them in the clutch.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:15 PM

mmm, i smell hits.

papi.
manny.
mikey lowell.

LET'S GO RED SOX! (clap - clap - clapclapclap)

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:15 PM

Welcome to bizarro world where now the Red Sox starting pitching isn't so hot and the bullpen is doing my-t-fine.

Funny game this baseball is.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:16 PM

Ian- HA. Yes. Lovely observation.

[ Piney61 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:17 PM

Everytime I see George Sherrill's name I keep singing "Oh Sherrie" from Steve Perry...am I the only one?

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:18 PM

that song's wicked old. I don't think half the people would even know what you're talking about piney.

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:19 PM

fuck fuck double fuck

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:19 PM

please make an effort.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:19 PM

Adios Papi. Bad call by the ump there.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:19 PM

OH FUCK A DUCK.

It's not like we have any extra hitters, Papi! CALM YOURSELF.

[ jules ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:19 PM

Papi gets thrown out?

ugh...what a game. Sit down Papi.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:19 PM

AW, PAPI!!

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:20 PM

I want to see the replay

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:20 PM

PAPI EJECTED?!?!

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:20 PM

What did he get ejected for?

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:21 PM

He went... in self-defense, though.

CALM THE FUCK DOWN, PAPI.

[ blood and whiskey ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:21 PM

bullshit.

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:21 PM

omg Papi stop

[ Erin ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:21 PM

Well this is just great. Come on Manny.

[ Jolie ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:21 PM

what's he doing?

[ Di ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:21 PM

alright Manny shut these ppl up

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:21 PM

he was ejected for arguing balls & strikes on a check swing. then he tossed his bat.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:21 PM

My heart just broke a little bit.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:22 PM

He went to duck out of the way of a pitch, but the bat head went around in the process and it was called strike three. He argued and got thrown out, but didn't realize and the ump told him to get out of the dugout and he realized he'd been thrown out and got pissed and Mills and Casey had to hold him back.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:22 PM

Wow, he must be really pissed if he was still barking from the dugout.

C'mon Manny...

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:22 PM

show
me
499

[ Mary ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:22 PM

Oh christ this is getting... interesting X(

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:22 PM

Oh yeah. And the tossed bat.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:22 PM

the plate umpire isn't giving anything on the outside corner because that was the second strike i've seen in this inning that wasn't called.

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:23 PM

Something has gone wrong in the cosmos.
Manny, you're connected - make it right.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:23 PM

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:25 PM

That was a tough one.

Let's hope Coco's okay, though... if it's another sickness, that would suck majorly. I hope it's something he ate.

[ Jane ] says:

[ Jolie ] says:

Ian, yes. For the sake of baseball, we must.

[ Liza ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:27 PM

Jenny, I get out of school at 3. I'm going to miss the first hour or so of the game. =/

So, I'm gonna go analyze some DNA now...

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:27 PM

i'm not one for excuses, but I think they need a day off....36 games in 37 days is a little crazy

[ Mary ] says:

I just can't wait for the Beckett conference now.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:28 PM

[ Mary ] says:

I'm so happy I get out of school at 2:15 :D

[ Erin ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:28 PM

I'm still pissed off that they couldn't score with no outs and the bases were loaded.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:28 PM

kristina the day off comes on Thursday.

[ ecl1958 ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:29 PM

One more day, Kristina, and they get a day off. I just wish I could really listen to the game and participate here tomorrow. Major under-the-gun-ness at work right now. Hopefully I can say hi here a couple of times.

[ jules ] says:

I'm tired of saying that.

LOL, Piney, you must be ;-). I never really liked that song, give me the *real* Journey (and yes, I've got it ;-)

Night All. Too bad tomorrow is an early game and I'm wicked busy at work (I'll still have gameday up, tho).

[ Jolie ] says:

We're all silently sharing our pain.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:43 PM

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:49 PM

I've got a feeling that won't last long Ian.....they can enjoy it while it lasts

[ Erin ] says:

[ Erin ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:53 PM

I meant to say 'these'

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 10:56 PM

It could all change tomorrow kristina. It is the first time in their history that they are 7 games over .500

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 11:01 PM

WOW. A rare Manny appearance on the postgame show.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 11:03 PM

are we not going to be treated to a Beckett post game...come on, I need something tonight

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 11:04 PM

don't worry Erin, there's still plenty of baseball to go...but yeah, these do suck

[ Ian ] says:
on May 13, 2008 11:08 PM

Josh is talking about not executing pitches. if you execute pitches, you get outs. if you don't execute pitches, you don't get outs.

And is Manny wearing his underwear on his head getting interviewed here.

[ Jane ] says:
on May 13, 2008 11:09 PM

Ian- capture and upload, please. I need something happy.

[ kristina ] says:
on May 13, 2008 11:09 PM

"that was the same question he just asked"...this is why we love him

[ fc ] says:
on May 13, 2008 11:19 PM

Looked like Manny was wearing his briefs on his head.

[ Katherine ] says:
on May 13, 2008 11:52 PM

So I just got home from the game, it was terrible. A fight even broke out in the cheap seats.

Ugh. I wanted to break out the ol' "God dammit! Throw a fucking strike!" video.

[ Lindsay ] says:
on May 14, 2008 1:31 PM

I'm sure no ones here to read this-- buy Clay Buchholz is on the 15 day DL because of broken fingernail....

Check out the extra bases blog-

[ LifelongSoxFan ] says:
on May 14, 2008 2:01 PM

Texy, I hope you don't mind but I have to comment on last night's game. I've been to many Orioles games but this was the first weeknight game I've attended with the Red Sox in town. What a difference a 'day' makes. The weekends filled about 90% of the seats with Sox fans at Camden Yards last year but maybe because the Birds are semi-hot lately, there were plenty of Orioles fans last night. They were rude, crude, obnoxious and yes, I did witness two groups of O's fans be escorted out of the park by police....a whole row of them in the section in front of us. (They were the ones with the O's, Stroh's and Natty Boh's sign...whatever the hell that means!) They chanted Manny's name. The Yard stationed 2 cops at each end of the Red Sox dugout. I've never seen that in Baltimore. There was a lot of attention in the upper level cheap seats as Katherine pointed out. A cop went running down our section to look up and get a better view of what was going on. I half expected a body to come flying out of that section, it was so tumultuous. After the Natty Boh's left, that was replaced with one guy wearing a hooded jacket who stood up and began a very long, double fisted one-finger salute to all us Red Sox fans. His girlfriend desperately tried to get him to stop. Two rows behind us were filled with elderly Red Sox fans and I was appalled. It gave a whole new meaning to the term "This is Birdland"!!
It was a good game and hearing the rousing round of applause Jacoby got when he replaced Drew was great. Seeing this human bullet run the bases for the 4th run was thrilling! Standing up and cheering Manny for the potential 499th homer was awesome.
We have tickets for the August 18th game in Baltimore, too. I'm no prude, but maybe because I was so consumed with excitment at seeing our World Champion guys for the first time this year, the behaviour of the opposing fans caught me off guard.
Here's to a better day, guys, and most of all, here's to the fabulous Red Sox fans! Camden Yards is a great park and I know a lot of fans who are not able to get Fenway seats make the trip here instead. I hope Camden Yards doesn't turn into another Yankee Stadium in terms of the fear factor some Red Sox fans may face just trying to be fan. Go Red Sox!!

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 14, 2008 2:25 PM

Wow. That gives me something to look forward too then when I head to Camden in 2 weeks. :) I'm looking forward to it, because I've heard a lot of nice things about the park.

But if the O's fans decide to be ugly, they might want to take it somewhere else. I paid way to much money for my seats for them to think they are going to scare me out of them.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:28 PM

Heelllooo? Is anyone here?
I figured we could just have today's thread as a continuation off of last night's since there's nothing up yet for today...
So, if someone else is actually here, HI!

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:31 PM

I'm here! I had a doctor's appt at one, and decided to just come home and watch the game instead of going back to work.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:32 PM

I'm here! Hi nj!!!

At work, so not watching the game. But I'm lurking around here anyway!

[ njdevils ] says:

Hi to you, too, Choco!

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:38 PM

hi guys! ;D

nice first inning - ells w/ the single, steal / pedey RBI single.

lester looks GOOD knock wood.

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:38 PM

I want to say something about Lester's pitch count, but I'm worried that he'll have a 40 pitch inning next if it do:-P

[ choco ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:40 PM

Remy just said 15 steals for Pedroia while the camera was on Jacoby... though I'm almost positive he means Jacoby.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:43 PM

Ya gotta like how the Sox scored quick in the first but these double plays are damn depressing.

/ian's only comment for the day.

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:43 PM

Yeah, he definitely meant Ellsbury...Pedroia only has two or three haha.

In case anyone missed it, lots of post-game gems from Beckett here:
http://bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?articleid=1093934

I wish there was video:-(

[ Ian ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:44 PM

Meghan I have the video but there's no cussing in it at all.

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:47 PM

"/ian's only comment for the day."
It only took 60 seconds for you to forget that you typed that. Wow.
(Just kidding, Ian!)

[ choco ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:47 PM

When does Beckett even say these things? I stayed up because I wanted to see the postgame interview with Josh. He acts really pissed, but I never see him swearing... Maybe NESN clips those out. Does anyone know where I can see them or the channel that plays them?

11 online... that's more normal, hah.

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:47 PM

One of those articles.

Those are always fun!

[ Meghan ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:48 PM

Not that it was far into the game...but laying down a bunt for the first hit of a game is kinda shitty.

However, I think Lester stole Beckett's pitch executer.

[ jenny again ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:49 PM

meghan - bwahahaha. spot on. ;D

[ njdevils ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:49 PM

You're right Choco, eleven is much more...normal. Does anyone remember what the highest number was last night? I think it was like eighty-something...

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:49 PM

Damn html is gonna kill me...lemme try that again

One of those *insert curse word here* articles.

Those are always fun.

That's better!

[ Bethie ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:50 PM

I remember seeing 85 on here at one point last night.

Big crowd. :)

[ Ian ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:51 PM

Choco they aren't going to show them because of the language he uses. I mean just look at the article at all expletives, a television station is not going show that sort of thing.

In the clip I have, most of what was written about what he said came before the clip soundbyte.

NESN has hopefully learned it's lesson from last year with him.

[ Ian ] says:
on May 14, 2008 3:52 PM

The reason for so many people listed online last night was because the Papelbon article was picked up by many national sites. Those most people were actually looking at that post our gracious host had and not the game thread although I'd speculate that some probably lurked around a bit.

[ jenny again ] says:
