I probably won't be around here very long tonight. I have my AP English Lang. Exam tommorow; there's not really anything I can do to study for it, so getting enough sleep is probably the best thing I can do.
And with Beckett on the mound, I'll know I'll be able to sleep well tonight!
The baseball gods have smiled upon me--I can watch Commander Kickass lead the Fuck Yeah Brigade on my big screen with surround sound, with the added bonus that Jim Palmer's the MASN color guy instead of the incredibly annoying Buck Martinez.
It also doubles as Yankee Stadium Mid-Atlantic, although admittedly at the one Sox/O's game I've attended there were more Sox fans there than I've seen Yankees fans--and that's saying something.
Too bad Ellsbury isn't playing because then it'd be 46 vs. 46. Anyone get excited about when those things happen?
Here's my "two cents" on Coco: I think he's really stepping his game up this year because he has some competition in CF and might be traded, so he wants to 1) prove to other teams he's awesome, 2) show the Red Sox he's awesome, or 3) both.
Hi everyone...after a crazy weekend I'm looking foward to a relaxing night of watching Josh kick some ass.....I did get some great birthday presents....though I think my favorite is my Beckett bobble head....or maybe my 'bring it like beckett" t-shirt....my coworkers know me too well =)
jacoby is available tonight if need be, but they're resting him if they don't need him. plus, coco's playing GREAT so letting ells rest a bit more makes sense.
kristina- Happy late birthday!! I'm planning on getting that shirt sometime soon! (once I get some money... I might also have to get a new iPod because someone stole mine, grr)
As a Yankees fan I am required by law to loathe one Red Sox player. It used to be Damon (and even though he's on the Yankees I still don't like him), now it's Youkilis. Deal. ;)
Jesus, between the chants of LET'S GO RED SOX and lousy play it sucks to be an O tonight.
thanks everyone....it was a good day even though it was a Monday.....ibut it makes me smile that my birthday falls the same week as my favorite ass kicking pitcher....yes, we are only one year and three days apart...i'm sad I know =)
kristina- 1 year 3 days?! That's like only 368 (or 369) days! It's definitely meant to be... ;)
(random: I had a dream last night and it was in my point of view on my wedding day and Josh Beckett was at down the aisle smiling at me. Twas a bit funny. Best man= Pap)
yes Trish, the future husband says he's ok with the school girl cruch I have as long as it's partly because he's the most ass-kickingest pitcher in baseball (yes, those are Matt's words) =)
Trish, LOL about required by law to hate one Sox player! Funny, I liked Damon much better when he was still with the Sox, even though I was still a Yankees fan at the time. Once he got to New York I decided I didn't like him very much at all.
And Ecl, it's pretty easy--but positively tedious and it is REALLY easy to make mistakes. If I misread an H as an N in 8-point font, I've screwed up. :P
Choco, I was just thinking the same thing. At the moment it's 70.
Liza, that does sound rather tedious. I don't recall doing DNA sequences in bio class. The odd thing about that is that there was and still is a noted bio lab in my home town (Watson and Crick worked there for years), and there were a lot of scientists' kids at my school. You'd think DNA would have been the first thing we did in bio class!
Not watching (or GameDaying) the game tonight because I'm up to my ears in book edits, but I'll be checking in from time to time to see how the boys are doing - and wishing I was at the game! I like half an hour from B-more...
But I'm going to the June 1st game with one of my coworkers/best friends - my first live Sox game since 2004. Howe psyched am I?
Liza- I was seriously just thinking that I'm starting to take a fondness to Markakis, and then I think "I know Liza loves Millar, but I wonder who else she likes on the Orioles..." and I go check. No way! "Orioles: KEVIN MILLAR, Nick Markakis" Wow.
Liza- Well I'm getting favorite players as we play different teams or as I watch different teams play, so my list will be probably be complete sometime at the end of this season... I know, I'm lame.
I was just checking in and I saw this comment by Trish:
"I blame all this on Josh shaving his arms."
Umm, WHAT?!?
I don't get NESN, and, even if I did, I'm half-studying, half-listening to the game, so I probably would have missed it anyway if it was on the radio... So does anyone have an explanation or verification of this...?
I'm really curious/disturbed...
I predict some serious f-bomb dropping, eye rolling and wtf looks for any post game interview that Beckett has to do. I'm not even watching and I can picture the disgusted look on his face
Also might have a few "executing pitches" sprinkled in.
Actually that won't be much different from the norm. :)
No problem, Jolie. The Youkness in RF is just puzzling. But he can basically play any position on that field, can't he? Like, blindfolded or something?
...I like Josh with less facial hair. But the shaved arms weird me out. Less wind resistance for his release, maybe? xD
Also, looks like the Sox are going to have to make a roster move after the game... considering they have two right now. (freaks out at the possibility of Chris Carter or Jon Van Every coming up to Boston)
Liza- I agree. I think it has to do with resistance. Swimmers train while hairy and shave before big meets to up their time. I'm guessing it's a similar principal.
I'd have to assume that most of the people who are listed as online aren't actually viewing the game thread but rather are looking at the awesome Papelbon craps post that our gracious host did yesterday since it was picked up by a bunch of national sites today.
Congrats on that by the way Texy. Extra Mustard brings a ton of traffic as we both know.
Jenny, all I can think of is that the Yankees are losing to the Rays right now.
Actually, I take that back. The Rays are a half a game from first...I guess there is no positive side afterall...
To be quite honest, this is practically the Murphy's Law of ballgames for the Red Sox. They got snakebitten, injured, throw-uppy, and well....you name it, shit has happened. I can't really say much else but that. *shrugs shoulders* Oh well, tomorrow's another day, right?
di - the o's came out flying and v. v. aggressive and they didn't miss josh's mistakes and they capitalized on all opportunities, whereas, so far, the red sox have not.
Well, this game has been...ah....fun. Gameday has denied me from seeing a full inning and the radio broadcast quit in the 2nd. So, I'm calling it a night. See you all tomorrow and what will hopefully be a better game!
For those without NESN/those who didn't know... Bonds was today charged with 14 counts of perjury, in addition to his 1 count of obstruction of justice.
I gotta get off the computer (my dad came home and has watermelon!) but I'm going to keep watching the game (and post game). I am a firm believer in Papi's infinite wisdom of "the game is not over until the last out" Talk to you all tomorrow hopefully!
Millar forgot he's suppose to help us....go talk to him Sean....i'm laughing at the idea of a Casey/Millar conversation....who would get the last word in =)
He went to duck out of the way of a pitch, but the bat head went around in the process and it was called strike three. He argued and got thrown out, but didn't realize and the ump told him to get out of the dugout and he realized he'd been thrown out and got pissed and Mills and Casey had to hold him back.
One more day, Kristina, and they get a day off. I just wish I could really listen to the game and participate here tomorrow. Major under-the-gun-ness at work right now. Hopefully I can say hi here a couple of times.
Texy, I hope you don't mind but I have to comment on last night's game. I've been to many Orioles games but this was the first weeknight game I've attended with the Red Sox in town. What a difference a 'day' makes. The weekends filled about 90% of the seats with Sox fans at Camden Yards last year but maybe because the Birds are semi-hot lately, there were plenty of Orioles fans last night. They were rude, crude, obnoxious and yes, I did witness two groups of O's fans be escorted out of the park by police....a whole row of them in the section in front of us. (They were the ones with the O's, Stroh's and Natty Boh's sign...whatever the hell that means!) They chanted Manny's name. The Yard stationed 2 cops at each end of the Red Sox dugout. I've never seen that in Baltimore. There was a lot of attention in the upper level cheap seats as Katherine pointed out. A cop went running down our section to look up and get a better view of what was going on. I half expected a body to come flying out of that section, it was so tumultuous. After the Natty Boh's left, that was replaced with one guy wearing a hooded jacket who stood up and began a very long, double fisted one-finger salute to all us Red Sox fans. His girlfriend desperately tried to get him to stop. Two rows behind us were filled with elderly Red Sox fans and I was appalled. It gave a whole new meaning to the term "This is Birdland"!!
It was a good game and hearing the rousing round of applause Jacoby got when he replaced Drew was great. Seeing this human bullet run the bases for the 4th run was thrilling! Standing up and cheering Manny for the potential 499th homer was awesome.
We have tickets for the August 18th game in Baltimore, too. I'm no prude, but maybe because I was so consumed with excitment at seeing our World Champion guys for the first time this year, the behaviour of the opposing fans caught me off guard.
Here's to a better day, guys, and most of all, here's to the fabulous Red Sox fans! Camden Yards is a great park and I know a lot of fans who are not able to get Fenway seats make the trip here instead. I hope Camden Yards doesn't turn into another Yankee Stadium in terms of the fear factor some Red Sox fans may face just trying to be fan. Go Red Sox!!
Wow. That gives me something to look forward too then when I head to Camden in 2 weeks. :) I'm looking forward to it, because I've heard a lot of nice things about the park.
But if the O's fans decide to be ugly, they might want to take it somewhere else. I paid way to much money for my seats for them to think they are going to scare me out of them.
Heelllooo? Is anyone here?
I figured we could just have today's thread as a continuation off of last night's since there's nothing up yet for today...
So, if someone else is actually here, HI!
When does Beckett even say these things? I stayed up because I wanted to see the postgame interview with Josh. He acts really pissed, but I never see him swearing... Maybe NESN clips those out. Does anyone know where I can see them or the channel that plays them?
Choco they aren't going to show them because of the language he uses. I mean just look at the article at all expletives, a television station is not going show that sort of thing.
In the clip I have, most of what was written about what he said came before the clip soundbyte.
NESN has hopefully learned it's lesson from last year with him.
The reason for so many people listed online last night was because the Papelbon article was picked up by many national sites. Those most people were actually looking at that post our gracious host had and not the game thread although I'd speculate that some probably lurked around a bit.
Brandon Moss is working out in Fort Myers, doing baseball activities at the minor league complex, as he recovers from an emergecny appendectomy two weeks ago. Moss has yet to play in any games.
