I am so psyched for tonight. Been waiting for this since the moment I got up this morning. I wore my Manny shirt to work today. Had to change into something cooler once I got home because it's been hot today and the house holds the heat (no A/C), but it's still on in spirit. Go Josh, go Manny, go Sox!!!
Sorry I didn't join y'all last Saturday--I went to Chicago last weekend and I forgot to set the alarm when I went for a nap and I slept through the game. But I am here--let the games begin!
Don and Remy are talking about the game last year when Cabrera balked Coco home and then threw at Pleats. And then ripped his uniform when being held back. :P
I *hate* those ads. I especially hate them during sports. Our children should be able to watch sporting events without hearing about four hour erections. Save the ads for after 10pm, but still not during sports.
The "last year" game was in September, I think--the Sox were playing the O's and Cabrera was pitching. Coco worked a walk (I think), then stole second and third. He was taking a big lead at third and Cabrera eventually balked and Coco got home on the balk. The next batter Cabrera faced was Pleats, at whose head he threw a 98 MPH fastball. Pedroia barked at Cabrera, and eventually Cabrera had to be restrained. His uniform ripped because he was tugging so hard to get away.
He's going to be on a pitch count of 70 pitches. I wouldn't expect the same numbers out of him that he's giving you as a set up guy. his velocity may decrease a little as he goes.
Personally, I think it's a dumb idea for Joba to start. He's way more suited to the pen--his attitude, his repertoire, his everything. And his velocity will definitely go down as a starter.
Ok, unlurking for a second...I was up in North Jersey last Thursday, listening to an interview with Cashman re: Joba. Eight days ago, Cashman said that Joba would not be going into the rotation right away...and now he's starting next week? Hmmm...
SoxPhan, yea I was thinking of that too. I'm interested to see who the Yankees are gonna really rely on in the bullpen now (if Joba remains a starter).
"I'm interested to see who the Yankees are gonna really rely on in the bullpen now (if Joba remains a starter)."
From the Yankees' site*: "In Chamberlain's absence from the bullpen, the Yankees plan to hand the eighth-inning setup role over to Kyle Farnsworth, who has pitched well for the most part this season, compiling a 4.24 ERA in 23 1/3 innings and appearing in 22 games."
Well, at least it'll make for some interesting installments of "The Dugout".
*surprised computer did not short circuit upon visiting MFY site
Having some major tummy issues here. Just, uh, stepped out for a moment and am still feeling a bit shaky. Time to regroup, see what the birthday boy does, and hopefully I can try again to get some nourishment into me after awhile...
Thanks, Liza. I think it was some salad veggies that were past their prime. My mom gave me some special storage bags that are supposed to extend the shelf life, but at this point I don't believe the hype. This is the second time it's happened. Ugh.
I guess maybe because I work with medical charts all day I'm totally used to stuff that most people would consider TMI. And also because of those charts and because I'm very very liberal, not much shocks me. Might make me sad, might make me laugh, but shock me? Not often.
Hey gang! I'm very late to the party. Work took me out of state. To the heartland actually. Very baseball-centric community. But I listened via XM radio. Sweet rental car delal.
Jenny, I recall reading some blog that offered the opinion that Jacoby's beauty transcends gender or orientation. In other words, it's pretty difficult to not find him gorgeous because he's so amazing looking.
I think I have myself a mission *goes on baseball-reference.com*
Other interesting birthday things of interest:
*Jeff Bagwell and Frank Thomas were born on the exactly same day 5/27/68
*Brandon Moss and Chris Carter have the same birthday but are one day apart.
*There's a lot of September babies on the Red Sox as well.
Fun fact: the last time a hidden ball trick was performed, it was Julio Lugo tagging out Alberto Callaspo, then with the DBacks, who was also the last out of Lester's no-no.
All these comments about the facial hair changes for pitchers tonight. I have to use my imagination since I can't watch the game out here in Seattle. At least I have gameday audio so I'm not completely out of the loop.
ecl, I'm only 16 too, so I feel like there is some age issues. But he's my little baby. If I could, I'd just pet his hair.
/creepiness. But yes. I just have that vibe with him. because I'm special.
See, Liza and Avery, they're ALL young enough to be my babies. Even Manny. He was born when I was a freshman in high school. Lugo and Papi and Drew were born during my first semester of college.
i'm with ya mhc, i've actually got the Celtics on the flatscreen. The red sox were relegated to the computer television for one night which is in HD anyways too.
It's like double nerve wracking watching both right now
I'm holding my lucky celtics monkey, my Celtics Pride t-shirt on my back. Cell and landline phones in my hands for the inevitable phone calls from similarly demented family...
Hi, B&W! I was watching the Spelling Bee and I looked for you, but that was kind of hard considering I have no idea what you look like. :P
How did you do? Did you make it on TV?
Still could go wrong... I wanted KG to make those friggin shots...
I would like to point out that i am actually crying and laughing at the same time.
I AM A MESS.
(for clarification-- I was raised in a Boston household in the 80s... we used to have season tix to the Celts... my family is a Celts family more than a Sox family... this is...

A hour early. Must be going out drinking tonight.
